In Fairy Tale Ballet, children learn their first dance steps through fairy tales and classical ballet stories. But what, exactly, does this mean? When children come to ballet class, their dance activities take them through a fairy tale story, allowing them to be part of the fairy tale.

Many childhood care facilities and schools teach theme-based curriculums in their classrooms. One week it’s farm animals, the next week it’s food, after that it’s automobiles. In our Once Upon A Ballet lesson plans, it’s fairytales. We use fairy tale stories young children are familiar with and already love as we teach them something unfamiliar: ballet. Teaching dance through fairy tales makes it more accessible for kids, enabling them to be more successful in learning new steps while, most importantly, making new friends and having fun.

Contemporary dance is a genre of dance performance that developed during the mid-twentieth century and has since grown to become one of the dominant genres for formally trained dancers throughout the world. Although originally formed by borrowing from classical, modern, and jazz styles, it has come to incorporate elements from many styles of dance. In terms of the focus of its technique, contemporary dance tends to combine the strong but controlled legwork of ballet with modern that stresses on torso. It also employs contract-release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation. Additionally, contemporary dance sometimes incorporates elements of non-western dance cultures, such as elements from African dance including bent knees, or movements from the Japanese contemporary dance.

Teaching dance through fairy tales makes it more accessible for kids, enabling them to be more successful in learning new steps while, most importantly, making new friends and having fun.

Here are seven simple benefits of pre-ballet classes for young children:

Ballet classes will stretch a child’s imagination as they dance the roles of different characters in ballet class.
Ballet keeps children moving, which is important and beneficial to the growth and development of their bodies. It helps them to stay active, release extra energy, improve muscle development, and increase cardiovascular and overall health.
It relieves stress. Yes, even young children can be stressed. Dance boosts endorphins and has a meditative quality. It’s even been called “moving meditation”!
Dancing doesn’t just exercise the body; it also exercises the brain! And in ballet class, we also listen to classical music, also boosting brainpower.
Ballet is good for self-esteem and confidence.
Even small children begin to learn self-discipline as they learn to follow directions and to try their best in class.
It’s fun! Children get to act out roles as they are dancing. Who doesn’t want to be a fairy or a princess?

Happy dancing!

Acro 8+ - 12 WEEK (Thursday)
This class is an "intro to acro" for dancers ages 8 +

AcroDance is a style of Acrobatics used specifically for dancers. It is a genre of dance which seamlessly fuses elements of lyrical gymnastics tricks, balancing, tumbling, and jazz. Students learn Acrobatic tricks such as handstands, cartwheels, chest stands, elbow stands, walkovers, side and front aerials and tumbling lines. Trick movements are usually executed slowly to emphasize gracefulness, body lines and picturesque extension. AcroDance offers more depth and variety to choreography and creates a much more versatile dancer. To master an AcroDance trick, students must develop a good foundation of strength and flexibility, thus emphasis is placed on extensive conditioning and stretch and strength training. When students are learning new tricks, the instructor utilizes professional spotting techniques; which is necessary to ensure safety and build confidence.
