This year we will learn a lot through play. We will focus on math, reading, and handwriting skills using a multi sensory approach to reach all types of learners. We will use a variety of curriculum and games and all learning will happen gently. I plan to have a letter of the week with a corresponding Bible verse and fun treat to reinforce their phonics. We will also focus on fine and gross motor skills. We will have fun with science (including experiments and projects) and emphasize on character traits such as integrity and honesty. We will also have learning centers which will allow a few minutes for each child to work in small groups with me to work on their personal goals.

My goal is to make them love learning.

The only curriculum needed for purchase is Christian Light Kindergarten II workbooks 1-5.

One day a week this class will have art for 30 minutes one day and music for 30 minutes the other day.

We will also incorporate other fun activities for our students like show and tell, field trips, and spirit week (or month). As a class we will also enjoy trips to the local park as weather permits and trips to the library’s book mobile where they can check books out to take home (with your card and permission). (I limit them to two at a time to not overwhelm the parents).

There will be a $125 supply fee that will cover classroom supplies, phonics, treats, and art fee.

We are going to have a ton of fun this year.

** If your child takes naps regularly, please try to stretch them past 2:00 to help their bodies adjust.

** Children are encouraged to bring a toy each week (must be able to fit in a back pack) to encourage creative play.

Supplies:
We will have a communal supply box. Please bring the following to contribute.

-Markers (basic 10 pack)

World Geography

In this class, we will be working our way around the world, touching on different countries and cultures. The focus will not be on strict memorization of countries, capitals, populations, etc., but rather on gathering memorable facts about the world God created. Each child will create their own notebook, including maps of different regions, reports on the places they are studying, pictures, they draw/print of unique flora/fauna, etc. We will spend the majority of class time in group discussions sharing our individual research. Grades will be based on participation in class discussions and completion and investment of assigned work.
-This class will require your student to do independent research on lots of cultures that differ from ours, and as such, they may encounter nudity and other sensitive subjects/images. Parents should be aware so they can responsibly monitor what their children are viewing.
-Students are also encouraged to use books in their research, so library trips will be needed.

Supplies:
1” 3 ring binder
7 divider tabs for binder
Ream of paper
Colored pencils/markers

Sewing and Design Overview:

This class will teach basic sewing techniques using both hand stitching and machine stitching. It is not necessary to have a home machine but it would make it easier for students to have access to one. The first semester we will be focusing more on upcycling and redesigning thrifted clothes. We will also have an upcycle fashion show in the fall. Spring semester will be focused on teaching how to design and make patterns for design. We will plan a second fashion show in the Spring to show off their pieces.

Cost: Personal fabric and coordinating notions like thread, zippers etc...for their own pieces and thrifted items to remake. The amount depends on the student's taste and preferences. Machine and basic sewing supplies will be provided in class.

It’s my desire and goal that my students learn conversational Spanish. I provide a solid foundation on which to build further learning, while making it fun! I progress at the speed of each class, reviewing often and when necessary. “Fiestas” create an added element of learning as I introduce different cultural topics. I strive to point toward Jesus’ prayer request: “Pray therefore the Lord of the Harvest, that He will send laborers into His Harvest.” Matthew 9:38

Thus, I spend the first classes brainstorming with my students to assess their current knowledge and understanding. I recognize that some students have had abundant exposure, while others have had little, and yet others have had none. I also understand that each student’s learning style is vastly different.

Spanish 1: We will begin working through McGraw Hill’s “Complete Spanish - step by step”. These may be purchased online for $25 (which should last 3 years). I will be supplementing this with Hispanic Culture studies which will enhance both reading comprehension as well as cultural exposure. “Extra practice” worksheets will be added where necessary. Listening Comprehension is essential. Pencils or pens and a spiral notebook for extra notes is needed.

Materials required:
-Notebook or looseleaf paper
-Binder or folders

“Biblical Citizenship” and “Constitution Alive”, produced by Patriot Academy, are intensive video courses on how important our involvement is as Citizens in our Community, State, Nation, and World.
Throughout this course we will take “virtual field trips” to many of our National Historic Monuments, including some that are not readily identified.
We’ll be challenged to do our part to preserve the freedoms we currently have and enjoy.
We will see through scripture application, what our responsibility is before God toward our Nation.
Each workbook accompanying these video series is $20 - which I have already purchased at a reduced price. One will be used each semester of the year, so we’ll cover both. They include:
U.S. Constitution at a glance
The Declaration of Independence
The Constitution made Easy (a $40 value in itself)
Pencils or pens are necessary
A spiral notebook for taking additional notes will be very handy.
We will take a deep look into the Constitution as well as the Declaration of Independence
We will memorize the Preamble of the Constitution and dissect it to find the true meaning
There will be research assignments from available resources
Parents are free (encouraged) to join us
A “certificate of completion” will be awarded to each student

This science course is designed for non-math savvy students. It is a hands- on interactive approach. Content will include studies into our environment and how it is impacted by different factors. This class is from a very clear Creation based worldview. We will be addressing issues such as climate change, population growth and extinction from a purely Biblical view without political agenda. Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have. We will be discovering through weekly projects and experiments not textbooks. Students' homework might include research online so computer access is required.

Cost: A notebook to hold and organize handouts and experiment/project overviews. There may be a cost for some of the project materials to complete experiments at home. This will vary by project but most are household items
