The study of pointe work or dancing on toe for the female dancer (although also studied by male dancers for strength and choreographic feats). Pointe work begins when a serious ballet student has completed pre-pointe and has passed the pre-pointe assessment. It is not typical to begin pointe under the age of twelve at IAD. Dancers beginning pointe must attend a minimum of 4.5 hours/week of ballet and typically have attended at least 4.5 hours/week of ballet for at least two years.
