An intro to combining acting, singing, and dancing for musical theater
performance.

Course Objectives: Create a performer who is beginning to feel confident in all aspects of
musical theatre; acting, singing, AND dancing.

Broadway Rep 2
In this course, students will continue to strengthen their talents in acting,
singing, and dancing. Students will learn to confidently perform a monologue, act through song,
and further their dance technique. The second half of the semester, students will learn how all
three of these elements are incorporated into a musical and study instructor-selected
scenes/songs into dance breaks from a show.

Course Objectives: 1. Students will prepare a monologue and identify their objective, various
tactics, and acting beats. 2. Students will prepare a short song selection to work through in

class, both for acting and vocal purposes. 3. Students will continue to grow in their dance
technique 4. Students will learn how all three elements, acting, singing and dancing, are
structured into the story telling of a musical 5. Students will work with their peers on selected
scenes from musicals that transition into songs and dance breaks. 6. Students will learn to give
constructive notes to their peers, which will in turn help them to better analyze their own work.

Tap 1
In this course, students will be introduced to the fundamental steps of tap
dancing, such as shuffles, flaps, and cramp rolls. There will be a strong emphasis on
performance and style, as well. Students will learn to perform basic steps with confidence and
understand the vital part of rhythm and musicality in the art form, as well.

Course Objectives: 1. Students will learn shuffles, flaps, buffalos, maxi fords, cramp rolls, and
possibly paradiddles. 2. Students will learn spatial awareness when dancing in a group and
traveling across the floor 3. Students will learn to confidently perform steps with style 4.Students
will learn the importance of rhythm in tap dancing and how their sounds interact with the music

Daily Lesson Plan: 1. Welcome and put on tap shoes (5 minutes) 2. Warm Up (15 minutes) 3.
Across the Floor Exercises (10 minutes) 3. Combination (30 minutes)

Jazz 2
In this course, students will continue to build on their jazz technique.
Elements of ballet will be added to the class to create a strong dancer and well-rounded
performer. Students will learn about musicality and dynamics in their dancing, as well.

Course Objectives: 1. Students will continue their knowledge of jazz technique, with a focus on
isolation, leaps, turns, battlements, and weight shifts/direction changes. 2. Students will do a
short ballet portion of class to create a strong and technical dancer. Jazz dance is built upon the
foundation of ballet, and students must learn ballet technique to be a truly accomplished and

strong jazz dancer 3. Students will learn spatial awareness, musicality in dancing, and
performance technique and style.

Nailing the Audition 1
An intro to the audition process focusing on the “AYT audition experience”.

Course Objectives: To get students familiar and comfortable with the AYT audition process. An
ideal class for students who have yet to audition for an AYT production.

Singing Actor 1
In this course, students will learn to effectively combine acting and singing skills in
order to create an emotionally full and rounded musical performance. Students will work on the
specificity of intentions, the freeing of one’s voice from the musical line, and honoring both the music
and the book. As a final project, students will share one piece (either duet or solo) at the end of the
semester showcase.

Course Objectives: 1) Student will learn how to dissect and score a musical piece into acting beats. 2)
Student will work on using the voice to evoke intentional emotional responses at appropriate times 3)
Student will learn to recognize personal performance traits and will work towards controlling
subconscious and involuntary reactions in performance

She confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before– keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.

This great 30 minute version of the beloved musical is great for young actors!

This course will place an emphasis on critical analysis of oneself and others. We will study different methodologies of acting and how they impact your character, and the characters around you. Scene work, monologues, and also in depth exercises that will prepare the advanced actor.

Course Objectives . The purpose of this course is to have students use a variety of in-depth philosophies to further their knowledge of not only their character and motivation, but the characters around them.

Exploration and further training within the principles and tools of acting, These tools include ensemble performing, character and script analysis. . This course will continue the exploration of the development of the actor’s instruments: voice, body and imagination.

Course Objectives . The purpose of this course is to further focus on the physical, mental, and vocal aspects of acting. Techniques used will focus on scene breakdown, character analysis, and the physicalization of character objectives, obstacles, and actions.

To study and practice the fundamentals of improvisation and to build upon those skills through improv games and exercises combined with instruction

Course Objectives: The course is intended to provide students with a basic overview of modern improvisation techniques as taught by Viola Spolin. These core skills are useful to any performer. They are also confidence building for other areas, such as public speaking. Special emphasis will be placed on techniques used to build an actor’s confidence and creativity.

Off the Cuff Improv Troupe
To study and practice the fundamentals of improvisation in a performance based setting and to build skills through instruction, improv games, and exercises specific to interacting with and performing for an audience.

Course Objectives: The course is intended to provide students with a basic overview of modern improvisation techniques as taught by Viola Spolin, The Second City, The Groundlings, and The Improv Olympic. Special emphasis will be placed on techniques used to build audience interaction and performance skills, as well as more advanced drills (improv games and activities) to train the students how to react quickly in any given scene.
