By systematically stretching and strengthening your body as an integrated whole, challenging core “powerhouse” muscles, and rewiring faulty mechanics, you'll restore proper alignment and work out muscular imbalances that otherwise lead to aches and pains.

Your new body awareness and ever increasing mind-body connection will help you achieve the technical precision required for maximum performance and svelte muscle tone. As your strength grows, so will your confidence. You'll feel it in your posture, coordination, flexibility, and joie de vie!

In-person class. No refunds but make-ups are available during the Pilates portion of the adult ballet class on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-7:45pm. Must be scheduled in advance to confirm availability.

Advanced Intermediate Jazz (age 10.5+)
Theater Dance is the study of music through movement. In theater, dancers must have full command of jazz, ballet, and modern techniques in order to achieve the sophisticated styling required to portray any given character. Theater Dance at ALDEN MOVES gives students the opportunity to build on their fundamentals in an arena outside of a classical ballet class. Students get an introduction to Luigi technique and style while working musicality, weight shifts, and direction changes through weekly "combinations." Students in Theater Dance should be enrolled in 1-2 classes per week.

Dress Code: Jazz pants or sweat pants, solid colored shirt or leotard, and black jazz shoes

Summer Camps 2023

Name
Days
Location
(Week 1 of 2) Broadway Bound (4-6 and 9.5-12 yr olds)
**This is a 2-Week Camp July 10-21. You MUST register for both weeks**

Aspiring "Triple Threats" will live the dream in daily dancing, singing, and acting classes in these one-week (4-8yr olds) and two-week (4-6yr olds + 9.5-12yr olds ) intensive workshops. Each new year of Broadway Bound camp features a new theme. In keeping with this summer's overarching theme of "Finding a Voice," we'll look both at how characters in musicals find their voices as well as how choreographers help shape shows and fine tune their own voices during film study. Daily jazz classes will help dancers finesse technique while challenging them to convey character though choreography as well. They will make their own costumes, props, and sets in preparation for a virtual end-of-camp showcase for parents.

Company B Intensive (10+)
Summer dance immersions are a wonderful precursor to the full blown dance intensives dancers age 10+ are ready for as they continue to progress in their technique. Intensives are only for experienced dancers, Level Ballet II and up. They involve a daily ballet class, longer technique classes in general (1-1.5hrs classes vs 45min-1hr immersion classes), and a 2nd morning technique class in either modern or jazz styles. Afternoon enrichment classes will include a mix of hip hop, dance composition, Pilates, pointe, improvisation, and rehearsal for an outdoor fall performance like Flatbush Frolic rather than an end-of week showcase. The additional class time gives us an even greater ability to work on advancing steps/vocabulary and help dancers who have had significant time off during the summer to regain lost ground before we get back to fall classes (which allows fall classes to progress more quickly!).

Rhythm & Moves (4-8 yr olds)
Delve into Hip Hop style and explore a spectrum of movement in one of our most exciting week-long camps returning this year. This camp features daily Hip Hop classes peppered with a few more classical dance fundamentals for building added strength and balance. The overarching theme for camps this summer is "Finding a Voice," and during Rhythm & Moves camps, dancers do just that. Dance composition activities will encourage personal expression while also challenging dancers to discover new ways to move and dynamics to move with. During film study, we'll look at the variety of voices that have emerged as Hip Hop forms have grown and developed. We'll also make our own costumes, props, and sets in preparation for a virtual end-of-week showcase for parents!

Young Choreographers (6-11)
Leap ahead, one step at a time, with a week-long dance intensive that includes daily ballet and modern classes (pointe work also available for eligible students during after-care hours), dance composition, and a chance for students to create their own choreography. The overarching theme for camps this summer is "Finding a Voice." During film study, we'll look at how ballet and modern dance choreographers and dancers have done just that, and during dance composition, we'll work on developing one of our own. We'll also work each day on making our own costumes, props, and sets, for an end-of-week virtual showcase for parents. Students will be divided into age and level-appropriate groups whenever applicable.
