Tumbling I
Tumbling is a fusion of the artistic motion & technique of dance & the athleticism of acrobatics. It is important to note that Tumbling is not Acro-Dance nor is it the same as Gymnastics therefore there is a need to teach tumbling skills differently than Gymnastic skills. Dance training is essential for Tumbling. In Gymnastics training, dance is secondary but in Tumbling, skills are expected to seamlessly be incorporated into dance. That is why we strongly encourage that students take either Ballet, Jazz, or Hip Hop in addition to Tumbling. We include turns, jumps & leaps and mainly contemporary technique in tumbling. This style is normally performed on a hard floor without mats (we use mats) while gymnasts have the advantage of a sprung floor giving more cushion on landings and height for more complex tumbling. The classes include many strength & flexibility drills to allow our students to perform skills safely & correctly. Flexibility is extremely important for tumbling.
