Elementary Ballet I
Jessie Dolezel
This class provides continuing challenges for our students who have previously taken Primary Ballet or are starting Ballet training for the first time at ages 9-11. New students at this level will begin building a foundation of proper ballet technique in a fun & creative environment. Students already familiar with ballet will increase their ballet vocabulary, and begin learning proper technique for successful and safe execution. Learning is fun and upbeat, creativity continues to be explored as students are asked to imagine their own dances and worlds, using their bodies to communicate to an audience just like professional dancers! Important lessons learned at this level: “dancing can be hard work” & “we can make hard work fun!”. Elementary level classes introduce students for the first time to a "full" ballet class format. Class begins at the barre, stretching and center work follow, combinations across the floor finish the class.

Elementary / Youth Contemporary
Gillian Dodd
Contemporary class focuses on growing a dancer's performance quality and movement contrasts along with fluidity, poise and emotive qualities. Lyrical/contemporary is a fluid form of dance done to all different styles of music. The dancer is taught to interpret his or her movement with feeling, emotion and style. They will learn to tell a story or create the picture of the song. This style combines the fluid beauty of ballet, strength and grounded look of modern, with contrasting sharper movements usually seen in jazz. *A Ballet or Jazz class is recommended along with lyrical/contemporary to build technique.
