This class will also emphasize musicality, rhythm, and syncopation and introduce elements of improvisation or free-style movements. A basic tap shoe is preferred for this class. Students in our Youth Division have the opportunity to participate in our Student Performing Ensemble. Each week, students will work with professionals to learn the art of choreography, craft their own dances working together with peers, and then have opportunities to perform in the community. Through this process we encourage students to learn how to cooperate with friends and problem solve together.

What makes this so unique? YOUR DANCER WILL CREATE THE DANCE! Students won’t learn a dance choreographed by the instructor. With age appropriate guidance, they will be the choreographers and the performers. They will learn from professionals in the field about costuming, lighting design, set design, and more. It’s an incredible experience!

Students choosing to participate in the Youth ChoreoLab Performing Ensemble (aged 10-12) must take one Modern class and one additional class.

**This class meets on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the Month**

With roots in the 1970's in New York City, Hip-Hop dance as an element of Hip-Hop culture has become a popular and innovative movement style across the world. Students learn and build on choreography and explore their personal voice through freestyle (improvisation). Students may learn from a range of styles such as breaking, locking, popping, or House. This class moves at an intermediate pace.

Students in Youth Modern continue to study modern dance technique through experiential anatomy and more complex sequencing of movement, combining floor work, standing, traveling, and partnered exercises. Students explore integrating spinal articulation to various actions, moving between balance and falling, Laban Efforts, group forms, and continue developing their improvisation and composition skills.

A Broadway-inspired movement class! Improve your confidence, rhythm, and performance skills by learning common musical theater steps and choreography from some of your favorite shows. Class begins with a gentle warm up, works through skill building such as isolations and stylized lower and upper body movement, and ends with the choreographed dance or combination.

Hip Hop
With roots in the 1970's in New York City, Hip-Hop dance as an element of Hip-Hop culture has become a popular and innovative movement style across the world. Classes begin with community building warm-up, followed by skill building in large and small groups. Students learn and build on choreography and explore their personal voice through freestyle (improvisation). Students may learn from a range of styles such as breaking, locking, popping, or House. This class moves at an intermediate pace.

CAMP: Creep, Crawl, Roll! (ages 3/4)
Young dancers will explore movement and stories all about our favorite bugs! The dancing bug catchers in this camp will creep along with the Very Hungry Caterpillar and Miss Spider, crawl like the Clumsy Clickbeetle, flutter like a lady bug or a firefly, and roll like a roly-poly. This camp includes a full creative movement class, daily story time, and a related craft. Don't forget to bring a snack and a water bottle!

CAMP: Gotta Dance 'Em All (ages 7-10)
Grab your Dance-dex and collect 5 different dance styles so you can become a dance master! Each day features dance class in a different style: Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz, Improvisation/Choreography. Campers will also watch and learn about famous dancers, and work together to create a short dance from the style of the day. The final day of camp features an informal performance that family and friends are invited to see! Don't forget to bring a peanut-free lunch and water bottle every day. No special shoes required.

Explore the seven seas and discover dancing sea beasts! You’ll encounter mermaids, whales, sea serpents, mysterious fish, and even the Red Bluster with brave young Maisie Crumble and the other sea monster hunters from the movie The Sea Beast. This camp features a full dance class with plenty of imaginative exploration, snack time, and daily related crafts. Campers will discover how to use their bodies to explore changes in direction, level, speed, and energy. Don't forget to bring a snack and water bottle everyday!
