PRIMARY 1/2 Ballet MON 4:30
PRIMARY BALLET
Our Primary Ballet class is for dancers ages 5-7 who are new to ballet as well as those with some experience, like our Pre-Primary class. It's a fun class full of play and creativity as well as an introduction or continuation of ballet fundamentals.

We split the Primary class into levels, which may or may not be combined. The levels correspond with their age. Primary 1 is for age 5, Primary 2 is for age 6, and Primary 3 is for age 7.

Ballet originated from court dances of the 15th century. Through years of adaptations, it has become the concert dance of codified steps we know today and serves as a good backbone for many other forms of dance. It promotes and requires strong discipline, precise technique, posture and control and is highly recommended for all students of the IDA. Dancers typically begin the class at the barre to work on stability and control and then work their way to the center of the floor. Amongst the major techniques of ballet, the IDA incorporates Cecchetti, RAD and Vaganova styles into its lesson plans, but is mainly influenced by the Cecchetti Method of Ballet.

ADULT Contemporary Modern
ADULT CONTEMPORARY MODERN
Our Adult Contemporary Modern class is for students age 18+ with or without any previous experience.

Our Contemporary Modern class will draw from both the Contemporary and Modern dance tradition, which themselves draw from or are a reaction to the dance traditions before them. Modern dance sprung out of the late 19th century in the United States and Germany as a direct response to the formal movements of ballet. While modern still relies heavily on ballet, it allows for more freedom of movement. It is based in improvisation, partner work, floor work, use of momentum, the principles of fall and recovery, and many other forms of dance. Contemporary dance is a newer dynamic genre that incorporates elements from ballet, modern, and jazz, as well as other non-Western styles. It emerged in the mid-twentieth century and was pioneered by choreographer Merce Cunningham. It has become a very popular genre in the US and Europe and is now a main genre among professional dancers and companies.

ADULT Stretch & Strength
STRETCH AND STRENGTH
Our Stretch and Strength class is designed for students of any skill level and all bodies.

This class will include a warm-up, cardio for our hearts, strength training for our muscles, and gentle stretching for our flexibility and mobility. Our goal is to help our hardworking dance and non-dance bodies do what they want to do out in the world. S&S will help you release stress, prevent injury, feel great, and laugh–especially when I do a themed class!

Movement will draw from a variety of sources including: dance, yoga, pilates, tabata, aerobics, weight lifting and more, but no previous experience is necessary. Modifications will always be demonstrated. We encourage everyone to tune into their bodies each week and meet them where they are.

Our Youth 5/6 Jazz class is for students age 12+ who have at least 3 years of experience in youth level dance classes.

Jazz dance has its roots in African dance and arose in America in the early twentieth century in its first form as African American social dances. While there are many styles of jazz dance, from afro-jazz, to classic jazz, to commercial jazz, there are several cornerstones of the technique. These pillars include its articulated torso, groundedness, broken lines, rhythmicality and maintaining the "aesthetic of the cool."
