Students will be places in the class based on ability, not by age

Advanced Modern
This class is a contemporary Modern class using traditional Modern technique as well as more contemporary concepts. This is an advanced movement practice is meant for experienced dancers. The class moves at a quick pace to discover the expressive potential of the body and to explore the moving body’s lines, stability, stamina, and flexibility. Time is also spent working on advanced ideas of musicality. This class is best suited for a CYB 5 or 6 level dancer and is optional to Trainees of Roanoke Ballet Theatre's professional company.
Dress code: Clothing students feel comfortable moving in; no jeans. Footwear: Barefoot

The students in this level have completed at least 3 years of pointe training. Each class begins with foot strengthening exercises with a Thera-Band. The students in this level have proper execution of steps and show discipline in their pointe work along with good foot placement and clarity of steps. This class still builds strength and adds difficulty with each combination. Trainees of Roanoke Ballet Theatre's professional company are also required to take this class.

Jazz I & II
Jazz I & II (Ages 9+)- A combined level of Jazz I and II. Skills of increasing difficulty will be taught including combinations of more complex coordination, movement isolations, leaps, turns, and precise footwork. This class will explore the many sides of jazz dance, from the stages of Broadway to the more modern and contemporary applications, and much more. Some dance experience is highly recommended.
Attire- form fitting clothing, no jeans. Footwear- Black jazz shoes.

Modern (CME)
This class trains the artistic body using Limon and Horton technique as well as improvisation and creative movement. The concepts of falling, suspension and recovery, inversion, spirals, floor work and the dance elements of space, time, and energy will be engaged.

Class consists of technical warm-up, floor work, across the floor, improvisation and phrase work. Students are encouraged to focus on the feeling and quality of the movement instead of getting bogged down in the steps and exact forms.

Please wear dance or exercise clothes that cover your legs. Bare feet or socks are recommended. All are invited and welcome to take this class alongside City Modern Ensemble.

All students are invited to perform in RBT’s 2023 Student Recital with the ballet classes being part of the Sleeping Beauty section on Sunday, May 7, 3pm at The Jefferson Center. To indicate your child’s intent to perform, please fill out the intent to perform form and return it to the front desk by February 1st.
There is a production fee of $80, due with the form. This fee includes a YouTube link of the performance, costume rental fees, etc. The production fee is non-refundable.
Rehearsals will take place with each class during their class times.
Full Cast Dress Rehearsal: Saturday, May 6th.
There is no Tech Week for this show.

Classes will include ballet technique, pointe, variations, partnering, men's class, repertoire, and conditioning. A lunch break will be given each day. You are welcome to bring lunch or get lunch in Grandin Village.

The Beginner/Intermediate Acrobatic Dance Summer Intensive is intended for ages 6-13 who either are brand new to acrobatic dance or those who are working on standing up from their backbend on their own. All students should be prepared to learn new skills based on their readiness, which means while some will work on beginner tricks, others who are ready for intermediate tricks like front walkovers and back walkovers will practice those tricks with spots. Acrobatic Dance (“Acro”) is a dance practice that teaches strength, flexibility, and balance in order to push dance to the limits of possibility, incorporating acrobatic skills into choreography.
