Ballet II will focus on classical ballet techniques through advanced class progressions. Barre, center, and across-the-floor movements support technique, performance quality, and confidence for classical ballet. Students also prepare to transition to pre-pointe and pointe.

Caribbean Afrique II (11-14 yrs)
This class will focus on body movement and techniques of Afro-Cuban and Afro-Dominican dances; orishas, palo, makuta, and rumba. Students will broaden their understanding of Afro-Caribbean history and its influence on dance, by learning and creating complex solo sequences fusing afro and partner dances.

Choreography (11-14 yrs)
Choreography requires students to be enrolled in Ballet II and at least one other class. This is a 45-minute class designed for students to learn phrases and choreography for performances. Dancers will also learn studio and stage management.

Contemporary Modern Dance II/III (11-14 yrs)
Contemporary Modern Dance technique was created to help dancers develop a mindful artistry and safety awareness. The class focuses on strength, exploration, momentum, and spatial awareness. This class is geared towards collaboration and includes opportunities for international travel. Kuumba students must be pre-approved to participate.

Graham I is an advanced-level class based on the opposition between contraction and release, shifting weight, and spiral movement. Students will also review components of Dance Afrique, Dunham, Horton, and Lemon techniques.

Jazz II is an upbeat and energetic class that focuses on proper turns, leaps, and the aesthetics of jazz dance. Jazz II students will also improve core strength, flexibility, and performance quality.

Beginner Dance Afrique is an introduction to the Ballet Afrique traditional dance form. Students will explore introductory level improvisation, traditional African dance, modern and ballet styles.

Intro to Ballet for boys is a class structured to focus on performance qualities used for male dancers. Students will study classical ballet movements that strengthen the body and develop leadership skills for the dance field.

Intro to Caribbean Afrique Dance (5-7 yrs)
Our youngest students will be working on starting their appreciation and understanding of Caribbean dances. They will explore body awareness by learning to imitate the different characteristics of the orishas with the body; this includes chest pattern, arm space awareness, floor work, and more. They will also learn the son clave pattern by clapping their hands to salsa music and learning to count basic merengue steps to a song, using all of these elements to work toward a culminating choreography.

Beginner Dance Afrique uses the music of the African diaspora for warm-ups, across the floor, and choreography. Students learn to identify the sounds and movements of classical ballet and traditional African dance.

Caribbean Afrique I will focus on the foundation and repertoire for Caribbean partner dances such as salsa, merengue, and bachata. Students will learn and sharpen frame techniques, different hold positions, ankle strength, and footwork techniques. They will spend time building footwork and partner work repertoire for all three of these partner dances and will use their knowledge to explore creating short sequence choreography in small teams.

Horton Technique I / Ballet I Combo teaches core fundamentals of both classical ballet and modern dance. Students will review ballet barre, center, and floorwork exercises and will transition into a Horton class. The Horton technique uses flatbacks, lateral stretches, tilt lines, and lunges.

Barre fitness is a total body workout inspired by classical ballet, pilates, and yoga. This class is great for all levels, is low-impact on the joints but provides high intensity for strengthening the muscles. Traditional ballet attire is not necessary for this class but is certainly welcome. Socks, bare feet, and ballet slippers all work too.
