Interested in working in the arts? Curious how to get there? We invite youth ages 13–30 to join us for this special edition of Making Art Work, hosted by Agnes and supported by the Juvenis Festival.

Our lineup of speakers will share first-hand accounts of their avenues into the arts, shedding light on the skills and knowledge they’ve gained. Whether you’re interested in academic routes (college and university) or forging a different path, this workshop will help you make informed decisions as you navigate your artistic journey.

Learn about edible plants, their names in Anishinaabemowin, the gifts they provide, identifying characteristics and harvesting methods. There may also be opportunities for tobacco offerings and small harvest of available plants.

Please wear weather appropriate clothing and outdoor shoes as this will be an outdoor event. We encourage you to bring a water bottle and snacks if needed for the walk.

Upcycling Clothing with Linocut Stamps
Instructor: Jill Glatt
Location: Programming Room, KFPL Calvin Park Branch, 88 Wright Crescent, Kingston

This workshop will guide participants through the process of relief printing to be used for upcycling projects! Participants will compose images, transfer and carve the images on rubber blocks, and then print directly onto fabric or onto iron-on fabric patches. Please bring ideas and visual references as source material you’re interested in working with. Images should ideally be simple, bold designs, not too detailed nor too small (at least 2 inches diameter)

Materials will be provided, though participants are encouraged to bring their own clothing or fabrics for this upcycling project. Natural fabrics are preferred (ex. cotton, linen, cotton blends).

A Glimpse of Music Therapy: An Experiential Workshop exploring Music Therapy & Therapeutic uses of Music

It is likely no surprise that music has powerful qualities which allow us to feel heard, to allow us to express emotions that words cannot, and to celebrate important milestones in our lives. Many of us use music each day be it passively while we study or work, for enjoyment with friends or a solo dance party, or for therapeutic uses. Beyond these personal uses of music, this experiential workshop aims to provide you with an overview of the field of Music Therapy as well as the distinction and connections with therapeutic uses of music outside of the therapy space. This presentation will allow you to gain insight into the benefits and application of Music Therapy including demonstrations and opportunities to trial various techniques and interventions, and will provide you with tangible tools and strategies to use in your everyday life to promote and maintain wellness.

Join Juvenis and Kingston Indigenous Languages Nest in a spring nature walk to feed the birds and animals on Belle Island. Learn about Belle Island and the ongoing land stewardship practices of the Belle Island Caretakers. Get to know the animals up close and learn their names in Anishinaabemowin. There will be opportunities to hear stories, offer tobacco, sing songs and the option to participate in a spring scavenger hunt or eco arts.

This 2-week Performance Intensive is for students aged 6-12. No experience is necessary.
