Beginning Guitar for Kids
SUZUKI METHOD The "Suzuki" method can be explained by what's known as the "Mother Tongue Approach". By studying and cataloging the various behaviors of infants and and parents during language acquisition, extracting the dynamics that produce the best results, you'll see the foundational principles of the Suzuki method emerge. For example, an infant learns to talk before learning to read. Great praise and love are expressed by parents and family when first words are attempted. The most important dynamic is the infant's natural inclination to listen, imitate and memorize. The translation to musical instrument study is, in the above order; Learn to make your instrument sing before reading music; When the students are young the parent must be involved in a positive and loving fashion; And lastly, the student should listen daily to recordings of songs they're studying . This is a parental task virtually guaranteeing healthy motivation. Finally, talking with your child about what it means to be a good student is very constructive. The first class will be an hour and half group lesson where fundamentals of position, movement and terminology will be covered and meeting each other. The remaining classes consist of private 20 minute lessons occurring between the hours of the class as stated in the catalog. These times will be selected during the group session. Parents are required to attend the first 15 minutes of the first session and encouraged to come to all sessions. Only a nylon string guitar of the proper size will be allowed. If you don't have a guitar the instructor may have some available for rental or will refer to music stores that have smaller guitars for rent/own. It is best to call the instructor, (234-9022) before the day class starts for assistance with correct guitar and fit . Students should wear loose fitting pants or shorts no dresses unless long and loose
