Improv Foundations
Are you a funny person? Do you like to make puns and use funny voices? Well let's put those skills to use in improv! Come learn about how to create stories and realities with yourself and others. Learn people skills like quick thinking, comedic timing, connection building and more! As Viola Spolin (the mother of Improv) said, "Everyone can act. Everyone can improvise. Anyone who wishes to can play in the theater and learn to become 'stage-worthy.'" That said, improv is not about being random or trying to be funny. It's about connection, breathing, taking time, and being in the moment. Learning how to develop those skills will not only create a more proficient performer, but a more confident human being as well. Students must commit to participate as much as they are able in class, must be willing to try new things, and must be willing to laugh with others and at themselves. They will be encouraged to participate, but it will not be strictly required of them every day. Improv works best when the performer is in a good mindset and is comfortable; if the student needs a break, that's perfectly alright. But when they are in class, they need to be in class. Phones will not be allowed during class time. Opportunities to be in 3 shows/semester will be part of this class.

Beginning Acting
Do you love theatre, but don't know where to start? Join us in Beginning Acting where we'll learn the basics of character, how to understand a script, how to audition, and how to laugh with and at yourself! Acting can be intimidating and scary, but everyone can do it. Learn how to use your weaknesses to your advantage so that your strengths grow even stronger as you flourish on stage! Students must commit to participate as much as they are able in class, must be willing to try new things, and must be willing to laugh with others and at themselves. They must commit to memorizing, performing small scenes, and being present in class. Phones will not be allowed during class time. Note: Acting isn't a rigid set of rules and systems that everyone can follow. Each actor must develop their own system. What I can offer may work for some, but not with others. If your student is struggling to memorize or understand, please encourage them to talk to me or feel free to reach out to me yourself and I'll do what I can to adapt my teaching so that your student gets the best education possible.

Ballet Aligned Spring 2024
Hansel and Gretel Performance
We are excited to provide performance opportunities for all our students! That being said, Hansel and Gretel, our spring show April 29 & 30, is much more involved and requires a greater time commitment than Night Before Christmas. There will be at least 2-5 extra rehearsals OUTSIDE OF CLASS per role in addition to the MANDATORY in-studio run-through April 26 and MANDATORY on-stage spacing and dress rehearsal April 27. (Likely days/times include but are not limited Mar 18-29 and Apr 8-19, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday evenings and/or Saturday mornings/early afternoons - TBA by Jan 31). Solid attendance, punctuality, and proactive assistance to make the shows a success are REQUIRED of cast members and parents. If your family isn't able to commit to that right now, your child will still be able to learn the dance and perform in the end-of-year, in-class showing.
If your child would like to perform on stage and can make the extra time commitment, we encourage you to sign-up. REGISTRATION FOR THE PERFORMANCE CLOSES FEB 1 OR WHEN THE ROLES AVAILABLE ARE FULL. Official casting will be announced via email on Feb 2. If your child did not receive a role, a full refund of $35 will be issued, plus a refund of in-class rehearsal fees, if paid (Found Prep and Foundations only). If the rehearsals announced by Jan 31 don't work for your family's schedule, you may request a full refund of rehearsal/performance fees by Feb 7. NO REFUNDS of the performance fees will be issued for any reason after Feb 7.
PLEASE NOTE THAT IT IS POSSIBLE THAT NOT ALL DANCERS WILL PERFORM IN EVERY SHOW. WE WILL TRY TO MINIMIZE DOUBLE CASTING AND ENSURE ALL DANCERS PERFORM IN AT LEAST 2 SHOWS AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE.
Our performance agreement, currently found on the Night Before Christmas tab of BalletAligned.com applies to these rehearsals and performances. If you have any additional questions, please text them to Ballet Aligned at 435.633.1225.

This course will require writing throughout the week as well as an edit for a peer. It is recommended that students have a solid grasp of grammar to enroll as most of the lessons will have higher level topics. Music is magic! Students will learn a variety of appropriate pop, folk, and show tunes to be enjoyed personally and performed in a concert at the end of the semester. Additionally there will be instruction in musical terms, rhythm, percussion, and vocality. Students must commit to attending most classes and attending the performance at the end. (Singing while sick really spreads the germs. Students should only miss a class if they are sick!) Students must be able to pay attention and follow instructions. Practice tracks may or may not be provided for "fun" practice singing at home or in the car. If they are provided, please play them. There will be a dress standard for the performance (TBD and TBA).
