1 Workshop Class w/Morgan Sanborn
About the class: Ballet - Focusing on a strong technical foundation and imagery to provide a better understanding of the body and the kinesthetic aspects of ballet. With an emphasis on the physical, emotional, and mental preparation. The class will consist of barre and center work. Contemporary - This class focuses on the fundamentals of technique while learning choreography and combinations both quickly and with attention to detail. This Contemporary class will consist of floor, center, across the floor, and a combination. About Morgan: Morgan Brown Sanborn - a native of Maine, is currently a member of Nevada Ballet Theater; where she has had the privilege of dancing in several roles this past season including; Arnaud Boursain and Alexie Ochin’s Murmation, in a collaboration with Cirque du Soleil. As well as a Swan and Hungarian in Cynthia Gregory’s Swan Lake. In 2009 she graduated magna cum laude from Point Park University with a BFA in dance. Morgan attended summer intensives at American Ballet Theatre, Festival Ballet of Providence, Point Park University, and Boston Conservatory. Sanborn spent the 2013-14 season performing with Teatrul Balet de Sibiu, Romania. Her featured roles include The Addict in Sergiu Anghel’s Missa Prophana, The Principal in Monica Uţă-Fotescu and Alexandru Fotescu The Lesson, and Summer soloist in Aleisha Sibhoun Gardner’s Four Seasons. She served as Rehearsal Assistant to Sergiu Anghel during his staging of Missa Prophana, and taught Pilates as a warm-up to company members daily prior to company class. During her cumulative six seasons as a company member with the Portland Ballet in Maine she has held roles as; A soloist in Joseph Jeffries’s Gallery, Queen of the Lobsters in Roberto Forleo’s Alice, The Soldier’s Conscience in Shipman’s The Armed Man, A Mass for Peace, Katrina in Shipman’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Myrtha in Catherine Batchellor’s Giselle, and Soloist in Kennett Oberly’s Mozart's Requiem. Her choreography has been featured in several local studios competitions, recitals, productions, and events including Portland Maine’s First Friday Art Walk, Allagash Street Fair. Portland Ballet’s Victorian Nutcracker, Gallery; a choreographer’s showcase, Portland Dances. Point Park University’s Senior Showcase. Live and Dance Strong Cancer Benefit, Dance for Autism Benefit, . In 2015 and 2016 she set two full length ballets on the Portland School of Ballet, A Ballet Tale and Alice in Wonderland. In the last fifteen years she has taught dance at several local studios in Maine and New Hampshire, and is an ABT® Certified teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Primary through Level 3 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. She is also a certified Pilates Academy International instructor and has coached high school and college Field Hockey.

Ballet Workshop w/Melina Hartog
About the class: Milena's ballet class is heavily inspired by her own training, implementing mostly the Russian Vaganova method. While she deems placement very important, musicality, artistry, and movement are perhaps the most important elements of her style. Milena's class usually includes some conditioning or strength exercises, as well as danceable, expressive adagios. About the Milena: Milena Hartog was born in New York City, but moved to the Netherlands at age five. In Amsterdam, she studied at the Dutch National Ballet Academy and had the opportunity to perform works by Van Manen, Petipa, Balanchine, Van Schayk, and Naharin, among others. In addition, she danced in various productions with the affiliated HET National Ballet. The past few years, Milena has danced with Princeton Youth Ballet in Princeton, NJ, and State Street Ballet in Santa Barbara, CA. She performed the lead role of the Sugar Plum Fairy in Lake Erie Ballet's Nutcracker, and has performed in, and choreographed numerous contemporary works. Currently, Milena is based in Portland, Maine, where she works with Portland Ballet.

About the class: Before choreographing and dancing in contemporary projects across the US, Milena was initially taught contemporary from masters from Netherlands Dance Theater and Batsheva. The Gaga-movement language was of great importance and is something she now implements in her own classes. Gaga allows for an experience of freedom, widening the range of movement, and fostering a greater confidence to improvise. Students can wear comfortable clothes, and expect to find new ways of moving. About Milena: Milena Hartog was born in New York City, but moved to the Netherlands at age five. In Amsterdam, she studied at the Dutch National Ballet Academy and had the opportunity to perform works by Van Manen, Petipa, Balanchine, Van Schayk, and Naharin, among others. This week long intensive offers dance classes in Ballet, Modern, and Jazz. Faculty and guest artist choreography will culminate in an informal performance on Friday, August 24th, 2018, at 2:30pm. This intensive is REQUIRED for all CM2 dancers to get back into dance shape and learn new choreography for the 2018/2019 season. Please pack a lunch, water bottle, and appropriate dance attire.

Demi Pointe & Pointe
It is required to take Ballet 2 class and have the teachers permission prior to taking the Demi-Pointe class. Demi-Pointe is a class designed to get a dancer ready to go en pointe! Specific foot and ankle exercises will be taught in class. How to sew and tie your Demi-pointe shoes will be covered in this class. It is required to take Ballet 3 or 4 classes and have the teachers’ permission prior to taking the Pointe class. This ballet class will focus on exercises and movements performed en pointe.

Music, movement, balance and basic dance steps are introduced in a fun, friendly and positive environment. This class includes mom or dad or another loved one participating in the class, taking an active role in encouraging, supporting and keeping the little dancer on track. This class establishes the beginnings of dance success for your little dancer! Session tuition covers the dancer and participating adult.

Beginner Tap - Drop In
Tap is a form of dance commonly characterized by syncopation, improvisation and a rhythmical tapping sound attained by the dancer from the small metal plates on the dancer’s shoes. It is in this way that a dancer becomes a percussive musician. In this class you will also explore rhythm tap and Broadway tap that is commonly seen in musical theater.
