Beginning Jazz
Jazz dance combines techniques of classical ballet and modern dance with the current forms of popular dance. Jazz also has a unique movement and vocabulary. It ranges from the isolation of particular body parts to the entire body's movement with the accents of musical rhythms. Jazz dance can take on many different characteristics and styles, including Street Jazz, Percussive, Broadway, Contemporary and Lyrical. Jazz classes can be patterned in any of these styles or a combination of them. Emphasis is on the importance of energy, rhythmical accuracy, and style.

Jazz is a technique class designed to help students focus on the leaps, jumps, and turns that dancers perform in Ballet, Jazz, and Hip Hop. This specialized class helps better your technique when executing fundamental leaps, center leaps, turns, and fouetté. Ballet and Jazz classes will not spend a lot of time focusing on these skills, and a student wishing to strengthen their skill level with these techniques may want to consider the Leaps and Turns class as an adjunct to skill development.

Intermediate / Advanced Hip Hop
Hip Hop is an edgy, raw and intense urban dance style also known as Street Dance. The origin of popping, locking and crumping, Hip Hop is mostly danced to rap, urban and not surprisingly, hip hop music. Funky, high-top dance sneakers are normally worn by dancers. What sets Hip Hop apart from most dance genres is that its original street dance was freestyle in nature and did not follow a predefined choreography. A style of dance that is open to personal expression, Hip hop artists were free to interpret the dance in any way they could, and this lead to many innovative and exciting dance styles.

Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Hip hop dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform moves. Therefore class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students for more intense movements.
