Requirements: Tap Shoes and Dance Clothes

3-6 Years Tap Experience

Have a good mastery of skills taught at the Beginner Level (See Beginner Level Course Description) and have an understanding of double, triple, and traveling time steps, all different levels of riffs, basic pullbacks & one foot pullbacks, working on traditional wings, rhythm turns, back essence, front essence, maxi ford turns, chug, treble step, toe stands, alternating shuffles and more advanced flap and shuffle patterns

Each day will consist of 3 break out sessions:
1. skills, drills, and tap technique
2. musicality and improv
3. choreography

Each day students will have instruction by 2 tap educators to gain a maximum amount of knowledge over the course of the intensive.

Payment is due with registration.

Early Bird Registration is $250 from December 2nd, 2019 through December 31st, 2019.

0-4 Years Tap Experience

Students will work on developing a strong understanding of tap fundamentals and building a strong foundation of tap technique with various steps like flaps (various patterns and combinations of flaps), shuffles (various patterns and combinations of shuffles-waltz clog, military time step, single & double front & back Irish are examples), paradiddles, cramp rolls, shirley temple, single time step, maxi ford, buffalo, drawbacks, riff, waltz clog, and military time step

Each day will consist of 3 break out sessions:

8+ years tap experience

At this level students have a mastery of all tap fundamentals (See Previous Tap Level Descriptions) and have excellent tap technique. Students can pick up skills and steps with vocal directions and with speed. Students will have mastery of many tap flash steps and can pick up new flash steps with minimal practice like various pullbacks (jumping jack, crossing, switching etc..), crossing wings, backwards wings, scissor wings, 5 count wings, one foot wing, and toe stands with various shuffles and steps. Other skills at the advanced level would include more advanced drawbacks like double and triple, more complicated shuffle patterns and essences, more advanced time steps like wing time steps, LA time step, riffle time step, and a time step connector, riff turns and split riffs, more complicated versions of bombershays, double flaps, slurps, flams, and more complicated turn patterns. Students at this level can pick up fast choreography without continuous repetition.

Have a good mastery of skills taught at the Beginner Level (See Beginner Level Course Description) and have an understanding of double, triple, and traveling time steps, all different levels of riffs, basic pullbacks & one foot pullbacks, working on traditional wings, rhythm turns, back essence, front essence, maxi ford turns, chug, treble step, toe stands, alternating shuffles and more advanced flap and shuffle patterns

The day will consist of 3 break out sessions:
1. skills, drills, and tap technique
2. musicality and improv
3. choreography

Dancers will have instruction by 2 tap educators to gain a maximum amount of knowledge for the day intensive.

Payment is due with registration.

8+ years tap experience

At this level students have a mastery of all tap fundamentals (See Previous Tap Level Descriptions) and have excellent tap technique. Students can pick up skills and steps with vocal directions and with speed. Students will have mastery of many tap flash steps and can pick up new flash steps with minimal practice like various pullbacks (jumping jack, crossing, switching etc..), crossing wings, backwards wings, scissor wings, 5 count wings, one foot wing, and toe stands with various shuffles and steps. Other skills at the advanced level would include more advanced drawbacks like double and triple, more complicated shuffle patterns and essences, more advanced time steps like wing time steps, LA time step, riffle time step, and a time step connector, riff turns and split riffs, more complicated versions of bombershays, double flaps, slurps, flams, and more complicated turn patterns. Students at this level can pick up fast choreography without continuous repetition.

The day will consist of 3 break out sessions:
1. skills, drills, and tap technique
2. musicality and improv
3. choreography

The students will have instruction by 2 tap educators to gain a maximum amount of knowledge over the course of the intensive.

At this level students can pick up skills and steps with minimal instructor demonstration and perform steps with speed and excellent technique. Students have mastered skills with solid sound quality in the Beginner and Advanced Beginner Level (See Course Descriptions) with working on adding pick ups and other tap tricks to basic steps. Students have an understanding of, and working on mastery of tap flash steps like double pullbacks, traditional wings, double wings, toe stands, and toe stand turns and over the tops. Students have an understanding and are working on the mastery of skills like buck time steps, quadruple time step, Irish with pick ups, paddles and paddle turns, bombershays, cramp roll turns, various versions of scuffles, double and triple maxi fords with pick ups and buffalos, twister and other fast moving traveling steps, alternating shuffles with pick ups, and various versions of drawbacks. Picking up fast choreography with vocal directions and minimal demonstration is an important skill at this level.

Students must have successfully complete the Beginner/Advanced Beginner Level pointe class. Students will utilize previously learned ballet technique while working in pointe shoes. Each class includes barre exercises. Students will work on center floor work and across the floor combinations. These exercises focus on strengthening the feet and ankles.

Students in this class must also be enrolled in either Ballet C or Ballet D class, variations technique class, and one other technique class.

Students wear leotard, tights, and pointe shoes. Hair in a bun.

*****Students in Ballet B must also take the Beginner/Advanced Beginner Variations Technique class AND 1 other technique class to further practice and develop skills taught in ballet class. This level Ballet Class would enroll in the Beginner/Advanced Beginner Level Turns and Leaps Class or a Flexibility Class for their 2 technique class.

This Jazz class will focus on continuing to advance proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and advancing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary to help develop a well rounded dancer. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations.
Students must complete successfully Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Beginner Intermediate, and Intermediate Level jazz classes. Students at this level focus on complex and intricate turn sequences with style and speed while progressing through this advanced level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate and speed/tempo with movement with increase. At this level improv becomes a part of the curriculum to allow students to explore feelings and emotions within their movements.

This tap & jazz class is for students ages 10+ that have successful completed the Tap & Jazz A Beginner level class. In this class students will continue to learn, improve, and strengthen their ankle flexibility and weight shifting abilities through a warm up routine. Students will be guided through the fundamentals in order to build a strong tap foundation that not only focuses on learning the skills but developing excellent tap technique and sound quality. In jazz students will continue to work on strength and flexibility through a warm up focusing on leg extensions and developing splits. Various across the floor or traveling movements will be introduced and practiced for weight shifting and expanding skill knowledge. Students will work on turns introduced in Tap & Jazz A and master inside and outside single pirouette turns. The advanced beginner tap & jazz syllabus typically takes 2-3 years to successfully complete.

Black Tap shoes and Black jazz shoes are required for this class.

Students must be invited by the Artistic Director to participate in this class and have successfully completed Ballet Levels A & B.
Students must be enrolled in a ballet class, variations class, and a technique class.
Pre-pointe students will further develop and strengthen the muscles necessary to be successful en pointe. Pre-pointe classes stress correct alignment and correct classical ballet technique. Students learn how to properly care for, sew, and put on their pointe shoes, They also learn about healthy foot care for happy feet when going up on pointe. During the season students will begin to work on exercises at the barre to begin the process of learning how to dance en pointe.

Students wear leotard, tights, and pink ballet shoes. Hair in a bun. When given approval by the instructor during the season students will advance to pointe shoes.

It is suggested that students take a technique class to compliment this class.

In this class students will continue to learn, improve, and strengthen their ankle flexibility and weight shifting abilities through a warm up routines that incorprate speed and various rhythmic patterns. Students will continue to work on improving speed and mastery of more challenging rhythmic patterns and skills. Students will take their tap improvisation abilities to a much higher level within tap jams, taping out spoken word, and portraying emotions with their tap sounds. To participate in this class students must have mastered the Advanced Intermediate Tap Syllabus and be able to do traditional wings, double wings, crossing wings, single & double pullbacks, 5 count pullbacks, one foot pullbacks, and single/double/triple/quadtruple and traveling time steps with solid tap technique and sound quality. Students should be working on or have mastery of one foot wings. The class will continue to advance in learning new tap skills with proper technique and sound quality. This class will also work on picking up tap choreography and progress with choreography at a rapid pace.

Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations.
Students must complete successfully Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Beginner Intermediate, and Intermediate Level jazz classes. Students at this level focus on complex and intricate turn sequences with style and speed while progressing through this advanced level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate and speed/tempo with movement with increase. At this level improv becomes a part of the curriculum to allow students to explore feelings and emotions within their movements.

Pre-pointe students will further develop and strengthen the muscles necessary to be successful en pointe. Pre-pointe classes stress correct alignment and correct classical ballet technique. Students learn how to properly care for, sew, and put on their pointe shoes, They also learn about healthy foot care for happy feet when going up on pointe. During the season students will begin to work on exercises at the barre to begin the process of learning how to dance en pointe.

Students wear leotard, tights, and pink ballet shoes. Hair in a bun. When given approval by the instructor during the season students will advance to pointe shoes.

To participate in this class students must have mastered the Advanced Intermediate Tap Syllabus and be able to do traditional wings, double wings, crossing wings, single & double pullbacks, 5 count pullbacks, one foot pullbacks, and single/double/triple/quadtruple and traveling time steps with solid tap technique and sound quality. Students should be working on or have mastery of one foot wings. The class will continue to advance in learning new tap skills with proper technique and sound quality. This class will also work on picking up tap choreography and progress with choreography at a rapid pace.

This modern class will incorporate many of the foundations of modern dance technique styles, including suspension and release, fall and recovery, the use of momentum and connecting breath with movement. Dancers will explore new ways of moving in combinations, floor work and partnering, and also in various methods of improvisation.

Must be 13+ to enroll in this class.

Students interested in moving up to this advanced class must take Modern B and C for one year together before moving solely into the advanced modern class.

Students must have successfully competed the Beginner Level class and invited to participate in the advance beginner level skills. In this class students will learn both soft shoe and hard shoe Irish Step.

Black ballet or jazz shoes are required for soft shoe. Black tap shoes are required for hard shoe.

In soft shoe students will continue to focus on proper technique, drills, and traditional Irish step reels and jigs. In hard shoe students will learn the basic fundamentals for proper technique through drills and learning skills in traditional Irish Step dance.
