A beginners level recreational class for students who have very little to no dance experience. In this class, students will learn the basics of Hip Hop, freestyle movements as well as choreography at a slower pace.

Breakdance (Beginner/intermediate)
Breaking or Bboying is style of street dance that originated among Latin American and African American youths in the Bronx of New York City during the early 1970s.While diverse in the amount of variation available in the dance, b-boying consists of four kinds of movement: toprock, downrock, power moves, and freezes. B-boying is typically danced to hip-hop, funk music, and especially breakbeats, although modern trends allow for much wider varieties of music along certain ranges of tempo and beat patterns.

The dance style called Waacking was created in the 2SLGBTQ+ clubs of Los Angeles during the 1970s disco era. Waacking is an extremely expressive, free and musical form of dance that is characterized by arm movements and posing with a strong emphasis on musicality and improvised performance. Waacking is often danced to disco music.

A funk dance style. Locking, dancers hold their positions longer and lock is the primary move used in locking. It is "similar to a freeze or a sudden pause." A locker's dancing is characterized by frequently locking in place and after a brief freeze then moving again. Lockers commonly use a distinctive dress style characterized by colorful clothing with stripes and suspenders.

Popping
Boogaloo Sam Solomon from the west side of Fresno is known by dancers across the globe for pioneering the Popping and Boogaloo style in the late 1970’s. Popping is centered around the technique of popping (or hitting), which means to quickly contract and relax muscles to create a jerking effect (a pop or hit) in the body. Popping can be concentrated to specific body parts creating variants such as arm pops, leg pops, chest pops and neck pops.Having its roots in the late 1970s funk music era, popping is commonly danced to funk and disco.

Students learn and explore various musical productions while building a repertoire of ensemble pieces. Training in either classical technique and hip hop fundamental is preferred. Voice is highly recommended.
