Tap I will introduce students to rhythmic tap dance technique. Students will learn how to articulate their feet to create percussive sounds. They will begin to combine toe, heel, jumping, and hopping movements to create rhythmic patterns. Students will improve coordination of sound and movement, articulation of their feet, and awareness of rhythm.

Ballet III
Based on teacher’s recommendation Ballet III aims to build artistry and solid technique in young dancers. With progressively more challenging exercises at the barre and in center, the class provides a solid technical framework in classical ballet while emphasizing the hallmarks of Nimbus Dance Works’ approach to dance: the artistry and unique voice of each dancer, musicality, and athleticism, paired with fluidity and coordination.

This class is full
Based on teacher’s recommendation Ballet IV/V provides a pre-professional setting in which students are expected to apply themselves with focus. Ballet IV/V constitutes the basis for Nimbus Dance Works’ Pre-Professional program. This class offers increasingly challenging movement combination and phrase work. Students will improve coordination, strength, and confidence finding their own expression within the Ballet form. The class is appropriate for intermediate/advanced dancers.

Hip Hop II
Hip Hop II is geared towards younger dance students – providing an age-appropriate approach to the exhilarating hip hop styles including Popping, Locking, Breaking, and more. Students enrolled in Hip Hop II must also be enrolled in at least one technique class each week.

Modern III/IV
This class builds on Modern II and includes more codified techniques, including Lester Horton and Martha Graham-based techniques. Students at this level are given more challenging exercises and are entering into a more intermediate level of movement. In Level IV modern class, students execute challenging phrase work and movement styles. Students progress through modern dance techniques including Graham-based and Horton-based styles (depending on instructor).

Students will improve coordination, strength, and confidence finding their own expression within the Modern form. The class is appropriate for intermediate/advanced dancers.

Modern dance gives expression to ever-evolving styles and approaches to movement in the world today. This class challenges students to push their physical limits, to try new ways of moving, and to learn movement phrases from Nimbus Dance Works' varied professional repertoire.

Acro III/IV
This class is full
Acro is defined by its unique athleticism and challenging skillset. Classes will focus on strength, flexibility, balance, and concentration. Students will learn to use their bodies in new ways, mastering skills such as somersaults, cartwheels, front and back walkovers, handstands, and so much more. Each student will receive one-on-one, hands-on attention. Every class will use mats, and other equipment will be present to better enhance safety, confidence, and learning abilities.

Students will be challenged to apply themselves physically and mentally to the class and will see the rewards of these efforts in increased strength and flexibility, confidence, and mental focus.

Nimbus Youth Ensemble
An elite performance ensemble, Nimbus Youth Ensemble (NYE) offers Pre-Professional students the opportunity to work with professional choreographers in a diverse repertory intended to develop the ensemble members' artistic and technical range and skill. The Nimbus Youth Ensemble performs throughout the region at public events and performances, local schools, hospitals, senior centers, Jersey City Nutcracker, and The School of Nimbus Showcase. Acceptance into NYE is by audition only and students must be members of the Pre-Professional program to be a member of NYE. Rehearsals for NYE are throughout the academic year. Student graduates of NYE have been accepted into some of the most renowned university dance programs in the country as well as competitive local high school dance programs. JC Nutcracker: Cookies I
*Student must be enrolled in Ballet I class as well.* Always the cutest part of the JC Nutcracker, the Cookies dance in the Second Act. Cookies are the children of Mama Cannoli and come out from underneath her enormous skirt to perform a high spirited and energetic dance of their own. Cookies also join the entire cast onstage during the finale.

Jazz IV/V will focus on jazz technique, emphasizing style, rhythm, and dynamics. Students will focus on increasing flexibility, improving consecutive pirouettes, and learning advanced jumps. Students will also be challenged with polyrhythms, intricate footwork and arm positions, and to develop a sense of flair and artistry.

Students will improve coordination, articulation, and manipulation of their feet to create clear percussive sounds.
