Students will learn the basic sounds and steps of tap movements as well as the proper terminology.  Students will learn how to make rhythmic patterns and timing beats. Students will learn tap at the barre, traveling and center floor.  Students will develop an understanding of musicality, rhythm and coordination.  Students will develop basics and advance them by adding more beats and rhythms. Students will learn how to free style tap and learn tap combinations.

Clogging 2
Clogging is a style of dance where students will get a high-energy workout. The whole family can experience a twirl around the floor and hear the musical click of their heels.
The dance’s origins come from Wales and England, but truly evolved out of the Appalachian Mountain region. Clogging is a percussive type of dance.
We dance to any music with a good beat – think of line dancing with tap shoes and that’s clogging! No partners are required, but friends make it fun!  If you can walk and count to five, you can clog!
Class Attire: Modest t shirt, black clogging shoes, capris leggings or dance capris for girls and dance pants for boys.

Ballet is a highly technical form of dance training with its own vocabulary based on French terminology. It has influenced and defined the foundation of techniques used in many other genres. Ballet has evolved over the years but will always hold the most important dance fundamentals. It requires hard work, dedication and discipline.

Level I: For beginner dancers ready to learn the basics of ballet.
Ages 5 (and already in Kindergarten) to age 10

Students will build off of the five positions, learn plié and tendus variations, among other level-appropriate skills. Dancers will use both barre and centre floor. Dancers will work to master level I curriculum to move on to level II with the instructor’s recommendation. 

Class attire: leotard, tights, and ballet slippers for our girls, and a white t-shirt, black athletic pants and black ballet slippers for our boys.

Acro Tumbling
Students will work on basic tumbling progressions: forward rolls, backward rolls, handstands, handstand drills, cartwheels, and round-offs.  For students who are advancing quickly, they will begin to focus on more challenging tumbling skills such as back walkovers and multiple cartwheels.  We will focus a great deal on flexibility and gain a deeper understanding of the role flexibility plays in dance and acrobatics.  Acro is defined by its athletic character and its unique choreography.

Class Attire: All: Athletic shorts, t-shirt. Students will be barefoot. Hair must be pulled back. Girls: A leotard should be worn underneath shorts and t-shirt.

This is a technique class designed to assist students in focusing on the leaps, jumps and turns that dancers perform in Ballet, Jazz and Contemporary. This specialized class is a way to better your technique when executing basic leaps, center leaps, turns, and fouetté.

Class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students for more intense movements.

Class Attire: Any non-revealing top and pants may be worn (No cleavage or mid-drifts)
Hip Hop sneakers or clean tennis shoes. NO FLIP FLOPS!
Your hip hop sneakers should only be worn at the studio.
They should put them on when they arrive and remove them prior to leaving.
This helps us save on tracking outside dirt onto the floors

In youth ballroom, students will learn the core ballroom dances, Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Cha Cha, Rumba, and Swing. Important aspects of Ballroom dance will be introduced such as posture, poise, and musicality.
Every week students will learn a few steps of various styles as well as the technique behind them. Students will learn to dance alone and with a partner so they are able to lead and follow in social dance situations.

Class attire: Comfortable street clothing can be worn.
You will want shoes that enable you to glide around the dance floor. Leather or Suede soles are best.
If you would like Ballroom shoes you may purchase them at the studio. No rubber soles or flip flops.



Partners are not required for this class but strongly encouraged.

In sewing class we will cover everything you need to know about learning to sew. From turning your sewing machine on and understanding what all the parts are, to creating your very own projects. You will have a blast chatting with the class, learning from our skilled instructor, and accomplishing your projects. Students of all skill levels are welcome because instruction is customized to each student's needs.

There is not a supply fee but we ask that students choose and purchase their own fabric. The studio will give you instructions and guidance on this.

5:30pm-7pm Wednesdays, September 11th through October 30th.

Busy Bees
MDSA's Mother's Day Out program can help parents add in some "me time" to their busy schedule each week while giving children the chance to interact with friends, have fun, and learn.
Classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm

You can add on Super Hero Creative movement class on Mondays @ 10:30 am or a Ballet class on Wednesday @ 10:30am so that you have an extra hour to work with.

Take part in our ballet workshop emphasizing core technical elements of flexibility, strength and alignment, combined with a focus on choreography, dance terminology, dance history, injury prevention, and other related topics. What to wear: Dance wear or leggings and a (fitted) t-shirt are required. Dancers will need to have Ballet shoes for this workshop. Shoes can be purchased at MDSA’s Boutique. Sizes needing to be ordered must be done at least two weeks prior to your workshop.

Leaps and Turns - One Day Intensive
*Prerequisite: Student must have taken at least one year of Ballet 1 or Jazz 1 and be able to execute a pirouette and grande jeté.

This is a technique class designed to assist students in focusing on the leaps, jumps and turns that dancers perform in Ballet, Jazz and Contemporary. This specialized workshop is a way to better your technique when executing basic leaps, center leaps, turns, and fouetté.

Class attire: Girls: Leotard and leggings. Boys: athletic shorts/joggers and t shirt.
Hair must be pulled back. Jazz shoes or paws are required. (no ballet shoes)

*A limited amount of Jazz shoes are available at MDSA to borrow for the day on a first come-first served basis.

Strength and Conditioning is for both boys and girls.

This class introduces youth to various styles of fitness activities throughout the day. It will be taught by two different teachers who each have their own workouts planned for students.
Whether you are getting ready for a sports season or want to prepare your body for the next level of Ballet, this class will give you the tools needed to succeed. It won't be easy!

Bring a towel and multiple, labeled bottles of water. You can also bring a light lunch.
