This class is for the teen dancer with little to no ballet training. It will introduce the basics of ballet technique and emphasize proper posture and form. It is recommended that students attend an additional dance class in another dance form to supplement their training.

This is an intermediate/advanced level class that builds upon technique's gained in the previous modern classes. Students learn to combine expressive elements of both contemporary ballet and modern dance.

This is for the advanced dancer who wishes to further their skills in contemporary technique while gaining the most versatility and movement potential. Elements of classical ballet, modern and improvisation are further developed.

Students will be introduced to pre-pointe this year and focus on developing strength through age appropriate exercises that target the muscles of the calves, ankles and feet in order to prepare them for pointe work as they advance during the year. Pointe work is introduced to those students who demonstrate sufficient strength. Exercises will be skill and level appropriate. In order to progress, it is recommended that students attend three ballet classes per week and supplement with additional classes in other dance forms.

Students must turn 11 by September and have completed at least 1 year of Level 3 or equivalent. Please see Director for proper class placement.

Paul Taylor Technique Masterclass - with Ted Thomas
A native New Yorker, Ted Thomas has danced with the companies of Paul Taylor, Ballet Hispanico, Elisa Monte, Nikolias and Murray Louis to name a few.

Melding his urban athleticism with her Latin sensuality, and their combined choreographic and musical sensibilities, Ted Thomas and Frances Ortiz founded Thomas/Ortiz Dance, introducing a fresh and emotionally engaging new vision to contemporary dance. The dancers from culturally diverse backgrounds perform a repertoire which explores a multitude of thought- provoking and socially-relevant themes.

West African Dance Class with Iddrisu Saaka
Join Iddrisu Saaka for a West African masterclass. He is an assistant professor of dance at Wesleyan University. He is a West African dance teacher, dancer, drummer and choreographer who believes in the power of dance to open doors, bring people together to celebrate diversity, empower and question status quo. He researches dance and music forms of different West African countries and engage in diverse initiatives that put West African music and dance forms in critical dialogue with contemporary and western dance forms to produce new knowledge and direct bold and innovative community engagement initiatives that educate, question, challenge and interrogate misconceptions about Africa. His research takes shape in three distinct and interrelated forms: Teaching in a variety of diverse and critical contexts; Choreography for the concert stage; and Social practice engaging with communities.
