Jazz is a combination of stretching, turns, and progressions allowing the student to express their own personality. Moderate to fast-paced class, including sharp, dynamic movements. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street, and Contemporary to help develop a well-rounded dancer. This class will perform in Recital Show B.

For boys & girls. A combination of street dancing and funky freestyle movement set to today's most popular music. Students learn a wide range of Hip Hop movements including popping and locking, krumping and jerking, and emerging dance styles. Students build strength, flexibility, endurance, and balance. Dancers create choreography as they work towards proficiency and ease in improvising with style. Classes are available with or without previous dance experience. This class will perform in Both Recital Shows.

Tiny Stars (Tues)
The absolute most FUN as we bring the JOY of DANCE to LIFE in a classroom of young STARS. 3- and 4-year olds experience-age appropriate dance movement in a fun and caring environment. Using a variety of music, props and instruments to learn basic rhythm, body part/spacial awareness, counting, sharing, class etiquette, and following directions. Each class has pre-ballet, coordination, and rhythm instruction, and at times, we bring out the tumbling mats too. This class only needs prima pink ballet shoes (no tap shoes needed). BOY dancers are very welcome and encouraged to join the fun! No special shoes or clothing are required for this class, but ballet shoes are encouraged and will be needed for the recital, if the dancer chooses to be in the recital. Many of our female Pre-school students love to come dressed in their cutest ballerina wear (45 minutes). This class will perform in Recital Show B.

Our Pre-K class of pure fun continuing the love of dance. Combining pre-ballet, creative movement, and an introduction to tap, this class is for our students ages 4-5, many of whom started as Tiny Stars as age 3. No previous experience is required This class is designed as an introduction to dance. Teaching creative movement, tap and pre-ballet, this class gives students a love of dance by enjoying story dances, moving as a group, and expressing themselves creatively with a variety of music, props, and imagination. This class meets for 45 minutes once a week. This class requires prima pink BALLET SHOES and black TAP SHOES. This class will perform in Recital Show B.

Cheer Dance
An extremely popular and energetic dance form, these classes combine aspects of both Poms and Hip Hop. It will prepare you to “bring it on,” and have the proper confidence and energy to perform. This class focuses on the lines of the body and working in complete unison with other dancers. Cheer dance will drill kicks, leaps, turns, and tricks as well as focus on flexibility and pom choreography. This class will perform in Recital Show A.

Ballet- The foundation for all forms of dance, Ballet is a proper beginning for dance training and a necessary addition for any serious dancer. Foundations of ballet alignment, basic positions, carriage of the arms, and class etiquette are introduced. Dancers learn about articulation of the feet and ankles, rotation of the hips (or “turn out”), and jumps. As they progress, students explore challenging barre exercises, turns, leaps, slow balances (adagio exercises), and complex combinations. Classical training with concentration on correct body posture & technique used to develop muscle strength, grace & poise. Ballet utilizes balance, extension, control, and expression. Lyrical dance is introduced to our beginner ballet students. This class will perform in Recital Show A.

Ballet is a prerequisite for this class. This class is an add-on class to a Ballet class. A current season FDC Ballet class must be taken in conjunction with this Lyrical class. This class combines techniques and skills from ballet, jazz and modern. Students will explore how dance emphasizes interpretation of music lyrics to tell a story with movement that can be fluid or abstract. Lyrical allows students the chance to freely express themselves and their emotions. This class will perform in Recital Show A.

Competition Technique - FireSTARters only (Ages 5-7 only)
For our youngest Competition Team Dancers, the FireSTARters. By invite only. Mandatory Class for all competition team members. Meets every other week. This class is in addition to mandatory standard weekly classes in ballet and style of dance for the competition routine(s). There is a different fee schedule for this class. and Competition Team members have a different fee structure for their standard weekly classes. Students selected for our Competition team study jazz/lyrical or hip hop styles at an accelerated pace with numerous opportunities to perform. Those invited to participate on our competition team exemplify a high standard of performance, technical advancement, artistic expression, maturity, and willingness to work. FDC Competition Team members are chosen based upon a dancer’s ability, stage presence, work ethic, and passion for dance. Competition dancers are selected not necessarily because they are the “best dancers,” but because they show enthusiasm and spirit for their dance and are team players. Participation in Competition requires additional fees and commitment. All group competition routines will perform in Both Recital Shows.
