DAUI is CLOSED for the week of Thanksgiving for all classes and dance company rehearsals. Classes typically resume on the Monday following the holiday. The studio is also closed for Christmas and Spring Break weeks in accordance with the VBCPS closing calendar.

This 45 minute class combines instruction in ballet and tap. It is the entry level technical class where students learn essential terminology, basic ballet and tap barre movement, as well as across-floor and center floor instruction in both genres. Typically suitable for dancers ages 3 - 8.

Suitable for dancers ages 5-9+ with prior dance or dance-related experience. DO NOT SELECT THIS CLASS OPTION IF YOU ONLY WANT YOUR CII DANCER TO TAKE BALLET & TAP or HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT HE/SHE IS NOT YET READY FOR JAZZ; select the Combination II - Ballet & Tap ONLY class instead.

Technical Level II/III - Ballet
Classes in ballet, 75 minutes each week, for preteen and teenage students with considerable dance experience. As with all DAUI technical level classes, students will receive solid instruction in terminology, barre, across-the-floor, and center floor movement. Technical Level III classes also emphasize stage presence, flexibility, turns, and movement necessary to participate in the more advanced levels/styles of dance and/or the competition team. Students at this level who show discipline, dedication, technique, and interest may be invited to participate in lyrical/contemporary, Pre-Pointe, Pointe, and/or Company. NOTE: Participation in lyrical/contemporary, Pre-Pointe, and/or Pointe is contingent upon prior training as well as current enrollment in ballet, in additional to demonstration of the technique needed to meet with success. Placement in these classes, as well as Company, are at the discretion of the director.

NOTE: Participation in Pre-Pointe, and/or Pointe is contingent upon prior training as well as current enrollment in ballet, in additional to demonstration of the technique needed to meet with success. Placement in these classes are at the discretion of the director; dancers who have already participated in this class at DAUI do not need prior authorization. EXCEPTION: Boys may take this class to work on ballet technique as well as Pas De Deux partnering for recital combinations and competitive routines.

Adult Dance - Session I
Adult dance class, offered as a five week session (10/10, 10/17, 10/24, 11/7, 11/14) if there are enough interested parents/adults. Session I will incorporate exercise, ballet, tap, and jazz dance in addition to Zumba/aerobic-style movement and Barre. Each sessions options are customized to those enrolled. There is no obligation to perform in the recital or competition if you attend this session, but this is a consideration if there are enough interested participants who attend a minimum of three adult dance sessions and are willing to extend payment and attendance through our June recital date.

NOTE: There is no class the week of Thanksgiving

Classes in jazz, 60 minutes each week, for preteen and teenage students with considerable dance experience. As with all DAUI technical level classes, students will receive solid instruction in terminology, barre, across-the-floor, and center floor movement. Technical Level III tap classes also emphasize stage presence, timing, rhythm, turns, and movement necessary to learn and execute the many variations in jazz (i.e., Classical, Broadway, Contemporary, Hip Hop Fusion, etc.).

Classes incorporating conditioning, technique, and choreography for civic and competitive dance opportunities. Dancers at the novice, apprentice and full-company level are selected after participating in a parent meeting and student audition held in late September or early October. Those selected will participate for a minimum of one hour on three Saturday's a month. Those who are competition-ready will rehearse for an extended time frame on Saturday's dependent upon how many routines the dancer is selected to participate in or understudy. Details are provided at the parent meeting and are included in the company contract. Placement in the dance company is at the discretion of the director; dancers who have already participated do not need prior authorization. NOTE: Friday's will be avoided whenever possible and are typically used for solos, duets, trios, or Novice level routines. Friday's are also used for competition run-thrus when we must compete early on Saturday.

Pre-Company: Novice Level
This 60 minute class combines instruction in ballet, tap and jazz movement. It is a pre-competitive level class where students learn essential terminology, basic ballet and tap barre movement, and across-floor and center floor instruction in ballet, tap, and jazz. In addition, students who are selected for this class work on style, confidence, stage presence and choreography that will prepare each dancer to eventually compete locally. This mid-level class is for CII and CIII dancers with experience who want to fit in additional weekly dance instruction. Typically suitable for enthusiastic and dedicated dancers ages 6 - 9 with placement approval by the director. NOTE: This class will meet THREE TIMES PER MONTH. Class will not be held on holiday weekends; on months where there is no holiday, the day off will be noted on the calendar in advance. This class is ideal for students with a STRONG attention span and students who would like to fit in an additional day of dance each week. This is an ideal opportunity for dancers who are interested in eventually becoming members of our studio's competition team. Students are expected to take this class in addition to a weekday CII or CIII class. THIS IS A SUPPLEMENTAL CLASS AND SHOULD BE TAKEN IN CONJUNCTION WITH A WEEKDAY CII OR CIII CLASS. In order to take this class without the prerequisite class, you must receive approval from Miss Sonya.

Dancers who are competition-ready will rehearse for 1 - 4+ hours dependent upon age, focus, discipline and how many routines the dancer is selected to participate in or understudy. Details are provided at the parent meeting and are included in the company contract. Placement in the dance company is at the discretion of the director; dancers who have already participated do not need prior authorization. NOTE: Friday's will be avoided whenever possible and are typically used for solos, duets, trios, or Novice level routines. Friday's are also used for competition run-thrus when we must compete early on Saturday. REMINDER: Inter/Senior competitors will rehearse on Thursday's after Technique class to avoid Saturday rehearsal's whenever possible to accommodate work schedules.
