Tap - Primary & Grade 1
Tap Dance classes at KADC focus on fundamental tap technique to enhance rhythm and motor skills. Students are introduced to tap through the BATD syllabus and progress to open work at the advanced levels. Tap Dance is an exciting form of dance in which dancers wear special shoes equipped with metal taps. Tap dancers use their feet like drums to create rhythmic patterns and timely beats. The term “tap dancing” is derived from the tapping sound produced when the small metal plates on the dancer’s shoes touch a hard floor or surface.

Contemporary - Grade 4 & 5
Contemporary Dance is a fusion of modern, jazz and ballet techniques. In terms of the focus of its technique, contemporary dance tends to combine the strong and controlled legwork of ballet with modern dance's stress on the torso, and also employs contract-release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation characteristic of modern dance. This type of dance challenges choreographers and dancers to use motion as an artistic form of expression. KaliAndrews Dance Company offers Contemporary Dance for ages 10 and up and beginners are welcome! KADC is one of the top schools in Ottawa for Contemporary, winning multiple Choreography, Costume and Overall awards across several regional and national competitions.

Tap - Grade 2 & 3
Tap Dance classes at KADC focus on fundamental tap technique to enhance rhythm and motor skills. Students are introduced to tap through the BATD syllabus and progress to open work at the advanced levels. Tap Dance is an exciting form of dance in which dancers wear special shoes equipped with metal taps. Tap dancers use their feet like drums to create rhythmic patterns and timely beats. The term “tap dancing” is derived from the tapping sound produced when the small metal plates on the dancer’s shoes touch a hard floor or surface.

Basic tricks such as Splits, Backbends, Rolls and Cartwheels are introduced immediately after obtaining the proper strength for support. Participants also learn the basic fundamentals of multiple acrobatic balances such as Head, Chest, Elbow and Hand Balances. Front and Back Walkovers are introduced once the participants obtain the Backbend and Recovery consistently which then prepares them for more advanced skills while applying new and interesting variations to the basics.

Contortion - Invitation Only
Contortion class is for the acrobat who wants to specialize in bending the body into unusual poses. In acrobatic dance, total control over one’s body throughout an extreme range of motion is required in order to master the necessary skills. Also, excessive flexibility can prove to become extremely valuable in many sports and activities, such as gymnastics, martial arts, dance, hockey and yoga. Our Contortion classes are designed for “extra bendy” individuals; upon entering our Contortion class, students have already nurtured their individual flexibility and will continue to enhance the beauty of bending. Participants will study contortion techniques and will focus on developing more strength and flexibility to support their tricks/skills. Contortion class is not a performance based class, therefore the participants have the opportunity to continue their training for the full duration of each term.

Tap - Elementary to Advanced
Tap Dance classes at KADC focus on fundamental tap technique to enhance rhythm and motor skills. Students are introduced to tap through the BATD syllabus and progress to open work at the advanced levels. Tap Dance is an exciting form of dance in which dancers wear special shoes equipped with metal taps. Tap dancers use their feet like drums to create rhythmic patterns and timely beats. The term “tap dancing” is derived from the tapping sound produced when the small metal plates on the dancer’s shoes touch a hard floor or surface.
