One Dance at a Time - Summer
Does your special needs child love movement, dance or needs an outlet to be more active?! Innovative Dance Studio is excited to begin providing a dance class specifically tailored for students ages 6-14 with Down Syndrome, Autism and any other developmental disabilities called One Dance at a Time. This class will be a great way for your child to get involved in an extracurricular activity while improving motor skills, confidence, and socialization. One Dance at a Time will be all inclusive for individuals no matter their level of needs.
Parents will be required to attend for the duration of the class to be readily available if extra support is needed.
Spring session runs July 10th - August14th. Tuition is $100 for the 6 week session.

Dance styles will include tap, jazz, acrobatics, ballet and hippity hop! There will be a short performance at 4:30pm on Thursday! Ages 3 - 6 years. $125 charged the first day of camp (8/5).

Lyrical dance draws from ballet and jazz movement. The focus of this type of dance is on fluidity of movement and expressing the emotions of the music and lyrics. As well as teaching technique, choreography and improvisational exercises are used to encourage self-expression. It is recommended that students have at least two years of either jazz or ballet before taking lyrical.

Dancers will utilize and improve their cooperation, listening, and gross motor skills. Parent or guardian will participate in class to help their child develop dance class skills. This class will help them get ready for independent activities.

These metal plates, when tapped against a hard surface, create a percussive sound and as such the dancers are considered to be musicians. Tap dancers make frequent use of syncopation. Another aspect of tap dancing is improvisation. This can either be done with music or without which is called a cappella dancing. Common tap steps include the shuffles, flaps, cramp rolls, and maxi fords.

Jazz is a classification shared by a broad range of dance styles. It emerged, with roots in Caribbean traditional dance. It is up beat with turns, leaps and tricks. Ballet technique is an important aspect of jazz because many of the same steps are used. Isolations are unique to jazz dance. This is where one part of the body is used while all other parts are still. Core strength and center control are important for executing isolations and powerful movements while maintaining balance. Unlike ballet, jazz is an anything goes style. The only limits are the imagination of the choreographer and dancer.
