COVID-19 Safety Requirements

DRESS CODE REQUIREMENTS
All students are required to have a backpack or dance bag to store dancewear. Please put students name on all shoes, bags, and dancewear.
BALLET CLASSES AND CREATIVE MOVEMENT- Girls: Black leotard, if sports bra desired, please wear black. No designs or decoration of any kind, or skirts. Danskin or Capezio ballet pink tights. Hair must be worn up in a bun or secured without excessive bangs. No jewelry other than post earrings. Soft leather pink ballet shoes for younger students and canvas split sole pink ballet shoes for older students. All ballet shoes should be a snug fit.
Boys: Black tights or snug black shorts. Black ballet shoes. Plain white t-shirt.
JAZZ, LYRICAL AND CONTEMPORARY- Girls: snugly fit tan jazz shoes. Black leotard. Tan or ballet pink tights. Black snug fitting shorts may be worn, but not mandatory. Jazz pants and leggings are allowed in jazz for teens and adults only. Dancers must still wear a leotard and tights under leggings or shorts.
Boys: Plain white t-shirt, black shorts and black jazz shoes.
HIP HOP-MS/HS students-comfortable clothing. No half tops. No booty shorts without tights. Hoodies and hats are allowed. Black and white Nike Tanjun running shoe or similar.
Elementary students-black leotard, tan tights. Booty shorts and leggings optional. Black and white Nike Tanjun easy on running shoe or similar.
Boys-Plain white or Dean/Black tee, black shorts or sweatpants. Black and white Nike Tanjun easy on running shoe or similar.
TAP- Girls: 3-4 yr. old wear black patent leather tap shoes with buckles-no ribbon ties. 5 yrs. to young elementary students wear tan buckle tap shoes-no ribbon ties. Teen/Adults wear flat black tie tap shoes. Advanced students flat oxford tap shoes, black leotard and tan tights. Please wear black shorts, capris or tight leggings to allow the foot to be seen well.
Boys: black oxford tap shoes. Black bike shorts. Plain white t-shirt.
ADULT TAP AND JAZZ- Any style or color leotard. Full or footless tights. Jazz pants, leggings, or bike shorts. Tan or black pull on jazz shoes or T-strap jazz shoes. Flat oxford tap shoe.
ADULT BALLET- solid color leotards, pink tights and pink ballet shoes. A skirt may be worn but not mandatory.
PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW YOUR DANCER TO WEAR ANY DANCE SHOES OUTSIDE, NOR COME TO CLASS WEARING DANCE SHOES ON OUTDOOR PAVEMENT.
STUDIO INFORMATION AND RULES OF CONDUCT
PAYMENT SCHEDULE
Lesson fees are to be paid in 4 pay periods. No refunds. Upon registration Autopay will be set up in your portal. Fees may be paid by check or cash before the 5th of the month in the office. On the 5th of a pay period, tuition payments will be posted via autopay. Accounts that are not paid after autopay is run on the 5th will be charged a $25 late fee. Please make sure your autopay payment method is up to date. See tuition schedule for pay periods. All returned checks will be charged a $40-NO EXCEPTIONS. Monies cannot be transferred from one student to another. Class changes made after the first week will be charged a $20 administrative fee.
CREDIT POLICY
Tuition fees are non-refundable. In some cases, such as serious or long-term illness, credit may be extended for future classes. The medical credit will be considered only from the date that it was reported to the Dean/Black S.P.A. office via doctors note. Not to the teacher. The office must be notified if a student is discontinuing, otherwise your account will continue to be charged. Classes must be finished in a two month period.

30 minute class $15.00. 1 ¼ hour class $21.00
45 minute class $17.00 1 ½ hour class $23.00
1 hour class $19.00
Private class $75.00 per hour
Choreography fee $75.00+
REGISTRATION FEE
There is a $35 registration fee, per student, per year, due at the time of registration. If a student discontinues and the re-registers for a class at a later time within the same season, a second registration fee will be charged. Lessons may then be charged for the remainder of the season in full.
REQUIRED CLASSES
Pointe students are required 2 pointe classes a week along with their regular ballet class. Pointe classes must continue through the summer at Dean/Black to continue training and to perform in the spring performance.
Upper level jazz students must also be taking a ballet class.
MULTIPLE CLASS DISCOUNT
10% off tuition for a family or individual student, taking 4 or more classes at the same time. TUITION MUST BE PAID IN FULL, ON TIME, TO RECEIVE DISCOUNT.
NO DISCOUNTS ON SUMMER CLASSES.

OUTSIDE DANCE CLASSES
Students must be exclusive to the DEAN/BLACK SCHOOL OF PERFORMING ARTS, INC. Other studios have different teaching styles and methods. Rehearsals as well as shows and classes conflict with the DEAN/BLACK schedule. Therefore, no student will be accepted to the program if they are regularly taking class at another studio in the immediate area.
CHECK/CASH PAYMENTS
Check must be made out to DEAN/BLACK SCHOOL OF PERFORMING ARTS, INC. If payment is made in cash, please be sure it is in an envelope with the student’s name, amount of cash and the date. Please give it to the office and make sure you receive a receipt before leaving.
ATTENDANCE/MISSED LESSONS
Students are expected to attend every class in the level they are assigned and to arrive on time. Progress in class is dependent upon regular and consistent participation. Because of the disruption of the class and the importance of the initial warm-up exercises, students entering class late for that reason may be asked to observe. Lessons missed cannot be made up.
NO REFUNDS WILL BE PERMITTED ON MISSED LESSONS. Once enrolled all classes are to be attended and paid. If the instructor/studio cancels a class, arrangements for a make-up class will be made.
CANCELLATIONS
If Midland Public Schools are closed due to weather, dance classes will also be cancelled if the weather does not improve. If the roads and weather clear by the afternoon, classes will go on as scheduled. Please check the Dean/Black Facebook page or Instagram by 2:00PM for cancellations. If the studio cancels a class, students may make up a class any time during the year. List of available make up classes will be posted on the bulletin board.
ABSENTEE
The studio must be notified if a student is going to be absent or discontinuing classes. Please attend as many classes as possible; otherwise, students fall behind in material introduced. A student must finish a 2-month pay period or forfeit the paid lessons. THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS.
HAIR
Ballet and creative movement students’ hair must be worn in a bun or up and away from the neck. No loose hair will be permitted. If hair is short, barrettes or headbands must be worn. All other classes must wear their hair up and away from their face and neck. Please, no large earrings, watches or extra jewelry. Please leave these items at home. The studio will not be responsible for lost or stolen property.
WAITING
Please do not wait for your child at the studio during class. This distracts the children and interferes with the attention of the entire class. Our lobby also cannot accommodate every parent waiting. You may view for a few minutes at the beginning or end of class.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Please do not take any photos or videos of any classes without prior permission. Some parents do not want their children's images on social media. Please adhere to this policy.
RESTROOM
There are restrooms located at the studio: however, please try to have small children use the restroom at home before coming to class. This will reduce classroom interruptions.
PICKING UP AND DROPPING OFF STUDENTS
Please bring your child on time for class and pick them up on time when class is dismissed. If you are going to be late, please notify the studio office and make arrangements in advance. Also, please be sure your child knows who is picking him/her up. If an unusual arrangement is made with your child, please make sure the studio office is aware of the arrangements.
Please do not park in McLaren Dental's parking lot.
PARKING
Students attending classes at the studio, please park with caution. Children as well adults are walking through the parking lot. There are children on the premises-please drive carefully. Do not leave other children unattended at the studio, inside or outside. No food or drinks are permitted in the studio/lobby. Also, please only use Dean/Black parking lot or court. The adjacent business are their lots, not Dean/Black.
Students must make it their responsibility to attend class. If a dancer misses more than four (4) of his/her classes through the September to May dance season, the instructor reserves the right to remove said student from the spring performance. It is the dancers and parent’s responsibility to read all notices emailed and to read the bulletin board for notices and any updated information. Please contact the office if you have any questions. Students must be courteous to the instructors, other dancers and parents at all times. Students, parents, brother, sisters are expected to respect the dance school property. No smoking by ANYONE in the lobby or outside the building on school premises.
