AAOD Student Handbook
Please go over this with your dancer so everyone understands what is required.
Mission Statement
Andrea's Academy of Dance is a family owned and operated business, where we are committed to teach the joys, dedication, and discipline of dancing. The art of dancing is to be enjoyed by everyone. We do not discriminate against any race, color, age, or any special needs.
Parent Portal
Important information will be sent out through the portal and also posted on the bulletin board within the system. Your schedule, billing, and costume information can be found within the portal. If you have any questions, please email us.
Absences and Lateness
We allow up to 6 missed classes for the whole dance year. It is the dancers responsibility to attend every class and to arrive promptly. If a student arrives 10 minutes or more, late to class, they may not participate in class; they may sit and watch or take notes during class. You can log an absence on the portal or email us at aacblt@gmail.com to notify the studio that if a student will be absent or late for class.
Make up Classes
There will be 4 make-up classes available during the year. They are always the Friday of the month from January-April. Sign-up sheets will be provided through email and in the waiting room. If you do sign up, please be there. You MUST sign up to attend the class.
Weather Policy
In cases of inclement weathers: Check our FaceBook page or Email for any cancellations. Check WGAL.COM under Andrea's Academy of Dance. Notification for our cancellation is available on their website only. If Solanco School District closes or dismisses school early due to weather, the studio will be closed for our Quarryville Location. If Oxford School District closes or dismisses school early due to weather, the studio will be closed for our Oxford Location. Take advantage of the make-up classes to recoup your loss of cancelled class due to weather.
Health / Virus / Injury
To protect the dancer, his or her classmates and teachers, parents must keep a child at home during the highly infectious stages of a cold/fever or other communicable ailment. If a dancer gets injured during a class, they are to notify the teacher immediately. If an injury occurs outside of the studio, the dancer is encouraged to still come to class to watch so that they don't get behind.
Classroom / Behavioral Matters
For your dancer to receive the full value of class, he/she needs to have absolute concentration. Respect for the teacher and for one another is essential for a successful classroom environment. Teachers are always happy to discuss or answer questions about a dancer's progress or behavior. Please email aacblt@gmail.com or the designated teacher email if you would like to send a message to your teacher.
Teaching Method and Corrections
As part of their training, dancers will receive constructive criticism. They may be told in front of the whole class to make a correction. It's not uncommon for a dancer to come home with sore muscles, just as in other sports. It's also important to have the dancer practice at home to help improve their progress.
Classroom Attire
Dancers are participating in a disciplined art form that requires discipline preparation. Dancers are required to have their hair pulled back and secured, while also having the necessary and required clothing and shoes. This varies with each class. See full policy and procedure handbook for what attire is required for each class.
Shoes
Dancers should wear street shoes into the studio and change into the proper shoe before class starts. Names should be placed inside the shoe, as we are not responsible for lost or stolen items. Each class has the recommended shoes. see full policy and procedure handbook for what attire is required for each class. NO SHOES=NO CLASS
Enrollment
In the beginning of each new dance year, we need a completed and signed registration form, parent consent form, medical release and photo/video consent form for each new and returning dancer.
Class Assignments
Only "Pre" dancers will be placed into a class by age. All other dancers will be placed in classes according to the knowledge and technique. This decision is based on performance from the previous year as well as the teacher's discretion.
