Dance (Designated Activity)
As we prepare for the upcoming season, we will continue to closely monitor the CDC guidelines and regulations. We have spent the last few months developing a safety and health plan that will be used for the 2020-2021 dance year. As always, the safety and well being of our families is our number one priority! For in person instruction, the following policies will be implemented:
*A one time waiver will need to be signed for all returning dancers.
*Parents are asked to escort their child to the studio entrances. Students will have their temperature checked before entering the building. Anyone with a temperature higher than 100.4 will not be permitted in the studio. Dancers/parents will also review the CDC health screening questions.
*Hand sanitizer will be available at the check in station as well as in all classrooms and will be need to be applied when entering and exiting the building.
*We will be utilizing separate entrances this year. Oxford students will use the front entrance as well as the entrance to the back of the building to limit congestion and help with traffic flow. Quarryville students will enter through the main entrance or into the big studio directly.
*Our waiting area will be CLOSED. Parents may wait in their cars or drop students off.
*Dancers will need to bring their own water bottle. We ask that dancers only bring the appropriate shoes to class and that bags remain at home.
*Staff will be wearing masks/face shields while in the classroom. Dancers are not required to wear masks during class, but may do so if desired.
*Classes will be staggered so that equipment can be sanitized in between classes.
*Classrooms and common areas will also be sanitized at the end of each evening.
Additional policies may be added as needed. We are confident that implementing these policies will keep the health and safety of our AAOD staff and families at the forefront of our reopening plans. As always, please contact us with any questions or concerns you may have!

It is necessary for all dancers and parents to realize that joining a dance class/classes is a full year commitment. When a dancer drops a class, it affects every student and the teacher. Our teachers have assigned parts/spots for each dancer. When a dancer drops a class those parts and spots all have to be re-worked and it is time wasted for all the students in the class. We ask that you take this commitment serious and understand that your dancer should complete the year thru the end of the recital. Thank you for your cooperation!

COVID-19 New Dropping off and Picking up Procedures
Parents are asked to escort their child to the studio entrances. Students will have their temperature checked before entering the building. Anyone with a temperature higher than 100.4 will not be permitted in the studio. Dancers/parents will also review the CDC health screening questions. Hand sanitizer will be available at the check in station as well as in all classrooms and will be needed to be applied when entering and exiting the building. Quarryville students will enter through the main entrance or into the big studio directly.
Our waiting area will be CLOSED. Parents may wait in their cars or drop students off.
Health / Virus / Injury
To protect the dancer, his or her classmates and teachers, parents must keep a child at home during the highly infectious stages of a cold/fever or other communicable ailment. If a dancer gets injured during a class, they are to notify the teacher immediately. If an injury occurs outside of the studio, the dancer is encouraged to still come to class to watch so that they don’t get behind.
Classroom / Behavioral Matters
For your dancer to receive the full value of class, he/she needs to have absolute concentration. Respect for the teacher and for one another is essential for a successful classroom environment. Teachers are always happy to discuss or answer questions about a dancer's progress or behavior. Please email email@example.com or the designated teacher email if you would like to send a message to your teacher.
Teaching Method and Corrections
As part of their training, dancers will receive constructive criticism. They may be told in front of the whole class to make a correction. It's not uncommon for a dancer to come home with sore muscles, just as in other sports. It's also important to have the dancer practice at home to help improve their progress.
Dancers are participating in a disciplined art form that requires discipline preparation. Dancers are required to have their hair pulled back and secured, while also having the necessary and required clothing and shoes. This varies with each class – see full policy and procedure handbook for what attire is required for each class.
Dancers should wear street shoes into the studio and change into the proper shoe before class starts. Names should be placed inside the shoe, as we are not responsible for lost or stolen items. Each class has the recommended shoe– see full policy and procedure handbook for what attire is required for each class. NO SHOES=NO CLASS
In the beginning of each new dance year, we need a completed and signed registration form, parent consent form, medical release and photo/video consent form for each new and returning dancer.
Only "Pre" dancers will be placed into a class by age. All other dancers will be placed in classes according to the knowledge and technique. This decision is based on performance from the previous year as well as the teacher's discretion.
