WHAT TO WEAR TO DANCE CLASS

If students are not dressed appropriately they may not be allowed to participate in class.
Please refer to the studio website to be familiar with our dress code.
STUDIO POLICIES AND RULES:
1. If you follow these rules, you will be providing yourself and everyone in the studio the best dancing and learning environment possible. Thank you for your consideration! Please review these policies with your dancer.
2. No food or drinks (except water) in class. All food is to be kept in the viewing areas.
A microwave is available for your use. Please keep it clean. A few dishes are also available for your use. Please wash them when finished.
3. The studio kitchen and costume storage is a private area – students/families must enter only with a staff member present.
4. The studio doors will be unlocked 15 minutes prior to the first class of the day.
5. Call or e-mail with any non urgent questions that may arise, instead of trying to talk to the instructor before or after class. We are on a very tight schedule during the week and we do not want to short-change the other students by starting the class late.
6. I pride myself on an open door policy. ALWAYS ASK! Better to ask so I can clarify any confusion or remedy a problem, rather than be frustrated and upset during your dance experience.
7. Disrespect or inappropriate speech from students and parents is not allowed. Derogatory remarks or inappropriate conversation or behavior toward any staff member, volunteer, other dancer or parents, other studios, or dance related persons will not be tolerated. This includes in person, on phone, or internet/social media.
8. JD’s Academy has the right to dismiss (without refund of fees) any student or parent who disregards the policies, shows inappropriate behavior, or upsets the overall harmony of the studio.
9. Studio updates and other pertinent information will be posted on our bulletin board and the studio’s website.
10. I do not print out information to send home.
11. It is your responsibility as a JDA parent to check the bulletin board, emails or website for information throughout the year.
12. Parents are responsible for the behavior and safety of their children. Siblings and friends are more than welcome at the studio. Please ensure good behavior and keep the Lobby and viewing areas clean.
13. Please keep conversation in the lobby positive and up-beat. Negativity, age inappropriate conversation and foul language is not appreciated, or tolerated. Please see number 8.
14. Maintain and keep our studio, bathrooms, kitchen, kid's room and lobby area clean. Please pick up your trash and any trash that you see lying around. If the studio requires a large amount of Janitorial work on a regular basis, fees will be increased to cover that cost. Help keep our fees low and keep our studio clean
15. No gum allowed in class or in the studio at any time.
16. Good attitudes and consistent attendance are expected from every student.
CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR:
 Wait in the viewing area until your instructor calls you into class
 Students are not allowed in the classroom until the instructor has arrived.
 Please keep your hands and “bodies†off the mirrors
 Do not make unnecessary conversation or noise during class, especially while your instructor is working with another student or talking to the class.
 Please keep your hands to yourself, no pushing or bullying of other students.
 Continual disruption of the class may result in dismissal from class.
 Pay attention to your instructor and stay alert for the entire class.
 Depending on the class, hair must be put up and away from the face if it is long enough. If you have short hair, you must use a stretch headband and clips to pull your hair back away from your face and off your neck. This rule is for your safety and success in class.
 Any student not in proper dance attire or hair properly pulled back may not be allowed on the dance floor until properly attired and groomed.
 If you need to leave class early, please let the teacher know before the class begins.
 Dancers should be respectful to instructors and fellow students always.
 Good behavior in the classroom should be displayed throughout the class and while you are in the studio.
 JD’s Academy is not responsible for any lost clothing. We will maintain a lost and found box, but PLEASE check it Periodically as items left will be donated at the end of the season.
 Be sure to write your name in your shoes and on any other dance attire or item. This way if lost they can be returned to you.
CLASS PLACEMENT:
All placement decisions by the instructor are based on class participation, attendance, progress, ability, and consistency.
It is not unusual to remain in the same level for more than one year.
Each student has a rate at which they will progress physically and mentally.
Please respect Miss Jaimie's professional knowledge of where your child should be placed in each year of their dance training.
A student who is placed in a class that is too difficult or a level that is not appropriate to their working ability will lose interest in their development as a dancer or hold the class back from progressing. They will also be at risk for injury.
The directors and instructors of JD’s Academy want to further your child’s training as a dancer and want them to enjoy their experience at the studio.
Miss Jaimie has the final say on class placement.
ATTENDENCE AND ABSENCES:
Dance is a commitment to yourself, the other students in your class and your instructor. Please be consistent in your attendance since performing together means relying on each other.
To ensure that your child is progressing in their dance technique the best they can, proper attendance is a must. Consistent attendance is important so your child can benefit the best they can. Absences and tardiness can have a negative effect on the entire class.
JD’s Academy reserves the right to have a student who is frequently late or absent to class, sit out of class
If you are unable to attend class, please call or message your instructor to let us know you will be absent.
Dancer and Parent Expectations:
You can expect your instructor to be prepared and prompt for class. Teach class in a kind but firm manner. Be proactive and clear in providing you and your dancer with any communication. Instructors will treat students and parents with respect and fairness. Any concerns about your instructor are to be brought immediately to Miss Jaimie. You are here to learn and we are here to teach. Everyone is here to have fun!
