Shooting Stars Dance Handbook and Waiver of Liability
By enrolling at Shooting Stars Dance (SSD) you are agreeing to these policies and waiver of liability.
SECTION A – Tuition, Enrollment & Fees
Tuition & Payments
Tuition is charged as a program fee that may be broken down into an initial down payment and monthly payments as designated by the program you are enrolling in. Our regular program is a 12-month program and includes approximately 40 weeks of classes. Different programs may be offered at different times and you may be upgraded to a higher-level program as your dancer progresses. Tuition and fees are non-refundable.
Because we charge a program fee, any tuition that is broken into monthly payments is the same each month for the designated number of months of your program, regardless of the number of lessons within that time frame. SSD does not charge more for "long" months or less for "short" months. You are charged tuition regardless of your dancer's attendance and we offer make-up classes to those who miss class. Program fees are set with the total number of lessons scheduled for that program in mind. A program will have breaks and weeks where there are no scheduled classes and there is no discount for those breaks. Make-up classes are not available for scheduled weeks off.
We require everyone who elects to make monthly payments towards their program cost to have an automatic payment plan set up. We will set up the designated number of payments at the amount specified for the program you are enrolling in at the time of enrollment. Any additional fees or purchases such as shoes, merchandise, etc. will need to be paid for at the time of purchase. You also have the option to pay for the entire program fee up front by cash or check.
By enrolling in classes at SSD you are agreeing to keep a valid credit card on file and are authorizing us to charge that card the amount specified for your program for the designated number of months. If you wish to pay the remaining balance of your program fee by cash or check you may do so in person at the studio at any time during your program. There will be a returned check fee of $25 for any checks returned unpaid by the bank. It is your responsibility to update your credit card information when it changes. If your automatic payment fails to be processed and the issue is not remedied within 5 business days, it will result in a suspension of services. Any dancer with an outstanding balance remaining on their account will not be allowed to participate in any scheduled performances. All account balances more than 90 days past due may be turned over to an outside agency for collections. If you need special payment arrangements due to extenuating circumstances, please contact us.
SSD is happy to have 2 or more email addresses on file to send information to in situations where there is a co-parenting arrangement in place. We cannot manage co-payments. The parent enrolling the student is responsible for payments irrespective of co-parenting agreements. Please ensure all fees are paid when due. SSD is unable to engage in discussion or written correspondence on behalf of either co-parent to a third party.
All classes have specific shoe requirements. We ask that you purchase all shoes at SSD to ensure they meet our requirements. We have a specialized dance floor and shoes that were not purchased at SSD can damage this floor. We do not allow any tap shoes with rivets used to attach the taps on our dance floors. Dance shoes are an additional fee and range in price. We also offer consignment shoes and dancewear for sale in addition to our selection of new shoes and dancewear. Consignment shoes are limited to the stock on hand and can change frequently as people bring in new items to sell.
It is also required that all students be dressed appropriately for dance class. Dancewear is available for purchase at the studio for an additional cost. It is your responsibility to provide your dancer with dancewear that meets their class dress code. Class dress codes can be found online by logging into your parent portal account.
When you register for a recital class you are signing up to participate in our annual recital. This includes an additional costume fee. Details on the amount of the costume fee for your program and payment due date will be emailed out at least 4 weeks prior to the costume payment due date. Studio staff will measure all dancers and determine the correct costume size. Please contact the desk staff when enrolling in a recital class if you have concerns with costume sizing. We are very experienced in costume sizing and always allow for growth or order slightly bigger if a dancer is between sizes. Costumes are not custom made to your dancer’s measurements and therefore will not fit every dancer perfectly. It is the parent’s responsibility to have any necessary alterations done to ensure a proper fit. We reserve the right to change the style of the costume without notice due to availability at the time of ordering.
Withdrawal and Refunds
Withdrawals must be submitted to our desk staff in writing and will not be accepted over the phone. In order to withdraw, a parent or adult student must notify studio desk staff in person and complete and sign a withdrawal form that will be provided by studio staff. If SSD does not receive a completed withdrawal form, tuition will continue to be charged and our authorization to charge your credit card on file will remain in effect, regardless of attendance, as the student's spot is being held in the class. Withdrawals submitted via email will not go into effect until you receive a confirmation that the email was received, and the withdrawal has been processed. Withdrawals must be received at least 7 days before the withdrawal is to take place to avoid additional tuition being charged. Your credit card on file will be automatically charged for any balance due on your account at the time of withdrawal.
Tuition for lessons that have already been held where the dancer was enrolled (regardless of whether or not they attended) is non-refundable. Your place was held in the class and therefore you are responsible for the tuition for that class. We offer make-up lessons for missed classes. Any additional fees paid, such as costume fees, are non-refundable. In cases of extenuating circumstances (such as a long-term injury) please contact the studio directly for options on suspending your enrollment until the dancer is able to return. SSD reserves the right to terminate lessons to any student without notice. In such a case, a refund for any unused lessons will be given or transferred to another class.
By creating an account with SSD I agree to these policies. I understand that when I enroll in a class at SSD I am agreeing to the terms and conditions that are specific to that class and the program it is included in. I agree to keep a valid credit card on file and authorize SSD to charge my card for the balance on my account when it is due. I understand that additional fees may be incurred as a result of my enrolling in a class at SSD and that a costume fee is required to participate in a recital class. I agree to abide by the dress code for any class I enroll in including having the proper footwear.
SECTION B – Attendance, Cancellations/Substitutions & Other Studio Policies
Faithful attendance is incredibly important to the success of a class. You are charged for classes that your dancer misses so please make every effort to have your child at every class. If you will be missing a class, please log into your parent portal and record the absence. Please contact our desk staff to schedule a make-up class if you wish to make-up a missed lesson. Lessons that are missed due to scheduled breaks (winter break, spring break, etc.) are not part of your program fee and cannot be made-up.
Extreme Weather/Cancelled Classes/Unforeseen Circumstances
In the case classes must be cancelled for any reason, you will be notified via email as far in advance as possible. We also post this information in the parent portal and on our social media feeds. SSD is NOT automatically closed if school or after-school activities are cancelled, so please check your email to see if you have class if you are unsure. No refunds for lessons missed due to these reasons will be given, however students may make-up the lesson.
If it is not possible to hold in-person classes, such as in the case of inclement weather, natural disaster or disease, we reserve the right to hold classes virtually, either live through a service such as Zoom or as prerecorded class content. Students are expected to participate in any virtual learning experiences offered as they would in-person classes and missed lessons can be made-up just like missed in-person classes. In the event that we need to move to virtual learning on a long-term basis, we will do our best to provide learning options for all students. Tuition will remain the same regardless of the learning environment.
By attending classes at SSD you agree that you are not displaying symptoms of any contagious illness, no one in your immediate family is displaying symptoms of any contagious illness and you have not knowingly been in contact with anyone with any contagious illness. Any student who displays symptoms of any contagious illness while in class will be removed from the classroom, isolated and parents will be contacted to pick them up.
SSD will follow all guidelines and mandates set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Minnesota Department of Health regarding the safety and health of our students and staff. These can change rapidly, and we will adapt our procedures and policies as needed to continue to align with them. We reserve the right to require our students and staff to wear face coverings, use hand sanitizer, remain distanced from each other, attend class virtually or any other safety measures deemed necessary to keep everyone as safe as possible.
In the case that a student, their immediate family member or someone they have come in contact with tests positive for COVID-19, you understand that the student is not allowed within our facility until they have been symptom free for 14 days after the initial exposure (or have been symptom free for 72 hours AND have a negative COVID-19 test result). Students are welcome to participate in their classes virtually during this time or may choose to make up the missed lessons in-person once they can resume classes at the studio.
SSD reserves the right to provide a substitute teacher if the regularly scheduled teacher is unable to teach classes and/or replace a teacher for any reason. If a teacher is unable to teach in-person for any reason we reserve the right to have the teacher teach virtually with an assistant instructor in-person in the classroom. SSD also reserves the right to move, change, combine or cancel classes as necessary. In this case all efforts to find a replacement class that works for you will be made.
Bullying and Harassment
We do not tolerate any form of bullying or harassment within our establishment. If you feel your child is being harassed during class time, please alert us immediately. We take these concerns very seriously and strive to make our studio a place where everyone feels safe and secure. This applies to dancers, parents and our studio staff. We reserve the right to ask anyone to leave our establishment if we feel it is necessary.
Email is the official form of communication for SSD. Please keep your email address updated at all times. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to be aware of studio events and activities such as rehearsals, pictures, recital and canceled classes. Please check your email and the parent portal regularly for studio notices.
It is very important for parents and teachers to keep lines of communication open to ensure that each student is getting the most out of his/her dance experience. We genuinely appreciate your ideas and comments. If you have a question or concern about a class, performance, or anything related to your dancer's classes, please go directly to their instructor or the studio director. What applies to your child may not apply to others due to different routines and classes. Seeking information from other parents or students can cause you to be misinformed and create undue stress between the parent/studio relationship. Studio staff members are always your best source for information.
Lost & Found Policy
Items that are left at the studio will be held for a maximum of 2 weeks. After that they will be donated or discarded. PLEASE label your dancers shoes and belongings! We will only hold shoes for 2 weeks and then they will go in the used shoe bin to be sold. If an item is labeled with a name, we will make every effort to return it to the rightful owner.
There is no supervision for dancers outside of class time. Please wait with your dancer before class begins and pick them up promptly after class ends. Older dancers should be instructed where to go after class if a parent will not be picking them up. Please call the desk if you will be late to pick up your dancer so we can alert them not to worry. Older dancers that remain at the studio between classes are expected to be quiet and courteous to those in class and pick up after themselves. SSD staff is not responsible for dancers who leave the studio between classes with or without parent permission.
Items that are distracting in class are not allowed. This includes cell phones, toys, clothing that encourages the dancer to play with it, etc. Please don't bring these to class. Dancers should have their dance shoes in a small bag that is labeled with their name (please label all shoes too!).
SSD does not carry medical insurance for their students. It is required that all students are covered by their own family insurance policies. If injury occurs at any SSD event, it is understood that the student's own policy is your only source of reimbursement. All classes at SSD require physical activity and involve risk. It is the parent's responsibility to notify the studio in writing if any illness, injury or physical limitations that may prevent a dancer from participating in any class activity.
Shooting Stars Dance is hereby granted permission to use photos or videos of our students for promotional purposes including, but not limited to, printed media, internet advertising and website design, email promotions and other advertisements. All photos or videos of students taken while participating in SSD events may be copyrighted in the SSD name.
It must be understood that our job as parents and instructors is to promote and encourage the student. This will not be achieved by jealousy, starting rumors or attempting to cause hurt feelings or friction among or between other parents, teachers or students. Gossip is always harmful, and the only way to stop it is not to participate in it. We want everyone's experience to be a fun and positive one, so we ask that you take this policy very seriously!
I agree to these terms and policies. I hereby affirm and acknowledge that I am giving full permission for the students I enroll in classes to participate in either an in-person or virtual learning environment. I am taking all risk associated with the participation in Shooting Stars Dance classes and activities both within and outside of the brick and mortar establishment of Shooting Stars Dance. I hereby release and discharge Shooting Stars Dance and its members from all actions, claims, or demands I, my heir, distributes, guardians and/or legal representatives now have or may have in the future for injury or damage resulting from my participation in this activity.
