Studio Policies
NOTE - True North Movement reserves the right to permanently dismiss students or families that fail to observe the etiquette guidelines listed below with no refund. Please read carefully.
Students
Every student expected to be respectful of all students and teachers. We will not tolerate any physical or verbal abuse, including “name calling” or “bullying” by any student. If a student disrupts the safety of other students in the class they will be asked to leave without refund. All students must also show respect to the property of others. Any intentional damage to or theft of such property or class equipment will not be tolerated and could result in the student’s permanent dismissal from class without refund. All teachers will make sure the classroom is a safe environment by upholding these rules and regulations. If a student does not abide by these rules, they may be asked to discontinue classes.
Any student arriving more than 15 minutes late may not be admitted to class. For your safety and to receive full benefit from your class, please arrange for a make-up class if you expect to be very late.
All students are encouraged not to leave the room once class has begun. Please allow time for restroom use prior to class. Very young children will be treated sensitively as the need arises.
Students are not to be socializing in a disruptive manner during class. Please honor your teacher and fellow students by giving full attention and cooperation. You will be advised if we feel any student is not adjusting well to the classroom environment.
Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle for every class and an energizing snack if they will be participating in more than 1.5 hours of class. Water ONLY is permitted in the studios. NO SODA, juice or sugary drinks on the premises please. Snacks should be enjoyed in the waiting area. Students are expected to clean up after themselves.
Students are asked to maintain a reasonable level of quiet in the waiting areas so as to not disturb classes. Use the cubbies provided to store belongings during class. Keep walkways clear and clutter free. All students are expected to be kind, courteous and respectful at all times while on the premises.
Class is educational and fun; however, an important part of class work is developing an attitude of discipline and respect for one’s self, teachers and fellow students. We trust that following our classroom etiquette will provide an environment whereby classes will be a pleasure for all participants.
Class Dress Code
Please make sure that students are prepared when they arrive for class with proper attire and hair secured.
Students must abide by a dress code policy for the following reasons:
A clean and well-groomed appearance shows respect for students, teachers, and the art and sport of dance and tumble. It also creates the proper frame of mind for learning.
For the safety and advancement of the student, teachers must be able to see the alignment and placement of students in order to make proper corrections on posture, alignment, etc. and to also be able to spot any skills safely
Hair must be properly secured and tied up off of the face and neck for all styles of dance and especially for tumbling classes. Hair clips will NOT be permitted for wear in tumbling classes.
Jewelry must not be loose or dangling. No watches. Stud earrings only.
Gum chewing is not allowed due to danger of choking.
No loose-fitting clothing that may be distracting during classes
NO STREET SHOES IN EITHER THE DANCE OR TUMBLING STUDIOS
Illness/ Injury
During class if a student complains of being ill, or sustains an injury and cannot participate, the instructor will sit them out and assess if parents need to be contacted,
Only students with a pre-existing sickness/injury are allowed to observe class. The parents must notify the office if a student is to observe class. Doctors notes may be requested after injuries to insure students are healthy enough for participation.
Absences
Tuition for absences will not be refunded or credited. Missed classes may be made up within 2 weeks of absence pending a request is made and a make up class is available. Private lessons may be scheduled as makeups with additional cost.
Parents
Parents and siblings are asked to maintain a reasonable level of quiet in halls and lounge areas so as to not disturb classes. Clean up after your children. Children not in class must be supervised at all times. Do not allow them to run, climb, or otherwise disrupt classes or damage the facility in anyway. Keep walkways clear and clutter free. All students and accompanying family members are expected to be kind, courteous and respectful while on the premises.
It’s a great idea to arrive 5-10 minutes before your class begins. This allows time to stretch quietly and prepare to focus on the dance class(es) ahead. However, children under 7 should not be dropped off any more than 5 minutes early.
Please pick up children on time. A charge of $1.00 p/minute, p/child will be assessed for childcare after the first 10 minutes that you are late picking up your child/children. Be available in the waiting area, parking lot, or stairwell to receive students when dismissed from class.
Communication
In order to be environmentally and budget friendly, we will primarily communicate with you through email and through the parent Facebook page. You will receive a newsletter a few days prior to the start of the next month to keep you abreast of coming events and important dates. You will receive an account statement each month to inform you of the balance that will be due on the first of the coming month.
We welcome your comments and suggestions. If any parent or student wishes to schedule a private conference concerning your individual goals, financial concerns, or any other questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Guests/ Observation
Out of town guests may request to visit at any time throughout the year but this request is NOT guarantee and is dependent on teacher/coach approval. No one else is allowed to sit in the class and watch during regular class time except on designated observation days.
Photography/ Video Policy
While we enjoy exposure through social media, we respect the privacy of our students and their families. We ask that you respect the privacy of others by getting permission from other parents before sharing images, videos, or information of or about their children. Please ask permission before taking a photo during a regular class or observation day class at the studio.
Class Schedules/ Cancellations
Class schedules are subject to change at any time. Classes with fewer than 5 participants may be canceled. If a class has to be canceled due to low enrollment, True North Movement will do it’s best to transfer students to a suitable class.
Inclement Weather/Other Cancellations
If True North Movement cancels a class due to teacher illness or other uncontrollable circumstance a make up day will be offered.. If make-up days cannot be scheduled credits may be given for future tuition fees.
True North Movement does NOT follow any school cancellations. While we take our local school closures into consideration we will make our own determination of class cancellations. Email notifications and Facebook notifications will be sent in the case of cancellations due to inclement weather. There are days built into the schedule for make ups in these cases. There will be no refunds or credits unless we reach more than 2 weather related cancellations. . Use your own discretion regarding attendance if the driving is difficult from your area.

End of Season Recitals/Showcase Information
Performing is an integral part of our dance and tumble education and we want all of our students to have a chance to proudly show off their hard work and progress.
All students participating in the end of season events are expected to have good class attendance. A great recital performance is a team effort; everyone has to do their part by having good attendance and working hard in class. If class attendance is poor, a student may be asked to sit out of their recital piece. NO RECITAL FEES OR COSTUME FEES WILL BE REFUNDED. If you know that your child will not be able to participate in a recital, please let us know by the predetermined opt out date, or as soon as possible.
Detailed recital information, including details about pictures, rehearsals, and programs will be emailed approximately 2 months prior to the performance. Please read all the information thoroughly.
Open Door Policy
The staff, faculty, and Director of True North Movement maintain an open-door communication policy and strongly encourage you to contact them directly with any questions or concerns. Please understand that you must make arrangements to speak with teachers outside of their teaching hours.
Thank you for making True North Movement a great place to learn and grow!
