Our staff is extremely careful and concerned when choosing the correct level class for each student. It is especially important to remember that all students are individuals with vastly different talents, skills and ability levels. They do not progress at the same rate. In maintaining a high quality of dance education, sometimes impossible to keep the same students together in class year after year. The most important thing is that the student should be comfortable in their learning environment. We are a progressive studio, and ALL OF OUR CLASSES ARE CHALLENGING.
Your child must wear the proper dance attire and shoes to every class. Students will be required to purchase at least one leotard and skirt, in the brand, style, and color chosen for their level of dance, as well as the shoes associated with the style(s) of dance they are taking. Students are encouraged but not required to wear the class leotard and skirt but will need to have for class pictures, and rehearsal days example being Sleeping Beauty or Recital rehearsals. Leotards (in solid colors), skirts, tights or jazz pants and appropriate style and type of dance shoe, as selected by the staff, are required for daily classes. Please no gymnastic style leotards. It is in your child’s creative mind to decide what style they wish to wear. We require that your child’s hair be in a ponytail for jazz/tap and a bun for ballet/pointe. Ballet shoestrings should be knotted and cut off. We will do this on the first day of class.
We are aware that your child maybe absents to due sickness or other obligations within their prior school activities etc. However, we do not reschedule missed classes. Please note that there will be no refund for missed classes. Also, we do not refund or reschedule classes due to dangerous weather (hurricanes, tornados, snow, etc.).
All Advanced students that wish to participate in the Sleeping Beauty Ballet will be required to take a minimum of 3 classes to audition. These will include Ballet and Pointe if eligible in addition to these students may choose from Lyrical, Jazz, or Tap.
In January, we perform our annual Princess Ballet (Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty). This is an opportunity for your child to perform in a professional ballet with VSU. Your child must be 2 ½ years of age to participate in the Princess Ballets. Intermediate Advanced and Advanced Pointe classes will be the only pointe classes to participate in the princess ballets. Sponsors in the community fund this performance, and all ticket proceeds are donated to the Valdosta State University’s Golden Circle Theatre/Dance Scholarship Fund.
Please join us on Facebook and Instagram to receive information about studio activities and holidays. Also, be aware that we have a Website, Facebook, and Instagram that we like to post pictures on. If you are not comfortable with your child’s photograph being displayed on the Valdosta School of Ballet’s Website, Facebook, and/or Instagram, please inform us and we will honor your wishes.
We would again like to thank you for giving us the opportunity to share our love of the art of dance with your child. Please feel free, if there is a problem, to set up a time to speak with us personally. This will allow us to give you our full attention because of classes, rehearsals, and performances.
