General Studio Policies:
• Food, gum, cell phones and drinks other than water, are not permitted in dance class.
• Dancers should not enter the dance room until the instructor invites them in.
• Excessive talking or other misbehavior will result in a student being required to observe class instead of participating.
• The parking lot and outside porch are not playgrounds. Parents are asked to monitor their children when they are outside of the studio
• Smoking is not permitted in the studio or surrounding areas (including near the doors leading into the studio).
• Siblings not participating in class must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
• Please keep the noise level down in the waiting room. It is disruptive to classes.
• For safety reasons, SLD must be notified in writing if someone other than the parent is picking up your child.
• The studio will open 15 minutes before the first class of the day. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to class time in order to change into shoes and get ready for class. Please do not drop students off early with no supervision.
Food & Drinks
No food or drink, besides water, is permitted in dance studios. Students may bring water & keep it in the side changing area and are allowed to eat in waiting rooms. There is no gum chewing in the studio to ensure the safety of all students.
Class Size
Class sizes range from a minimum of 2 to a maximum of 20 students. At SLD, we provide assistant instructors for all our Creative Movement, Petite and junior. We reserve the right to combine, cancel or shorten a class based on an enrollment of 5 students or less.
Class Placement
At SLD, we encourage all of our students to work hard to dance their best. However, each student must work at a level that is suitable to him or her. A student may become discouraged if he/she placed in a class that is too difficult for their skill level. Students should be challenged in class, but should never have to struggle. Therefore, class placement is at the discretion of the studio director only. Placement is assigned at the time of registration. The director, to assure that proper placement has been made, will then evaluate students during the first month of class. Depending on the student's individual level of development and ability, placement may be changed at any time upon the recommendation of the director. It is most important for the student to enjoy class, feel comfortable and be happy.
Registration fees must be included & received with first payment in order to guarantee your dancers spot. Once payment is made, there are no refunds under any circumstances. We do not accept new students after November 1st.
Dress Code
Company Ballet
Company ballet students must wear tights and leotard. Long Hair MUST be pulled back from face in ponytail, braid, bun, headband, etc.
Proper dance attire is essential for movement, attitude, and observation of dance technique. No oversized T-shirts or sweatshirts are permitted in class because they hide technical flaws in dance that the instructor cannot see to correct. During the wintertime, a student may wear a sweatshirt into class until they complete the warm-up segment. Warnings will be given once for unacceptable dancewear. Every time after that, student(s) will not be permitted to dance. There are no exceptions to this policy. Company ballet students must wear tights and leotard. Long Hair MUST be pulled back away from face in ponytail, braid, bun, headband, etc.
Acceptable dance wear: black dance pants, fitted shirt/dance shirt, leotard, tights, skirt, unitard, fitted dance shorts, dance sweaters, any age appropriate dance outfit.
DO NOT wear old costumes unless approved by instructor.
DO NOT wear pants that are too long and drag on the ground
DO NOT wear long, dangling jewelry
DO NOT wear jeans
Internet Policy
If anyone is caught using the internet for inappropriate reasons, they will be asked to leave the studio. This includes, but is not limited to:
1) Posting derogatory reviews of the studio
2) Abusive language toward the studio or any students
Attendance and Tardiness
Once a dancer is placed in a particular class, they become an integral part of the class and an important participant to the instructor and to their classmates. Regular, prompt attendance is necessary to maintain the progress of the entire class. The courtesy of a phone call is expected and appreciated whenever a student will be absent. Please arrive on time since the beginning warm-up portion of the class is extremely important and prevents injuries. Additionally, each interruption distracts the students and instructors in session. Repetitive tardiness will not be tolerated. If you must leave the class early, please let the instructor know before class. If a student is seriously ill or injured and provides a doctor’s note, studio credit will be granted. Credit is non-transferable.
Snow Days and Cancellations
SLD reserves the right to close the studio in the event of inclement weather. Cancellations will be posted on our Website, Facebook, Instagram, and will be emailed to all families. NOTE: Decisions are usually made & shared by 3:00pm.
Vacations and Holidays
The studio calendar will list all days that classes will not be held. Our schedule does not always coincide with your child's school calendar. There is always class unless otherwise notified.
Make Up Policy
Classes must be made up within 30 days of the missed class. All snow days and holidays can be made up by attending any regularly scheduled class at a comparable dance level, . No tuition adjustments will be made for missed classes that are not made up.
Your Possessions
Please bring all personal items (clothes, shoes, schoolwork, etc...) in a bag that closes securely. Loose items are liable to get lost or picked up by another child accidentally. Please label ALL personal belongings with child's name in permanent ink to help cut down on lost items. If your child misplaces a belonging, please check the lost and found box located on top of the cubbies. Stage Left dance discards unlabeled items at the end of each month. The studio is not responsible for loss of personal property.
Prompt Student Pick Up
SLD recommends that parents of preschoolers not leave the building. Please stay in the waiting room. It is important that your child knows that you are nearby and are available to assist them with bathroom trips. Parents must arrange for pick up if they are unable to do so themselves. Staff cannot be held responsible for unsupervised children. We urge all parents to personally pick up their children in the studio waiting room and to not permit them to exit the studio unattended.
Awards
Awards are given for three, five, ten, fifteen, and twenty years of dance experience. Transfer students are always welcome and all years of dance experience will be credited toward trophy awards.
Annual Dance Performance
A yearly dance performance is an important part of your child's training. It is a lesson in cooperation, stage direction, and self confidence. By performing on stage, a child is able to actually "see" and appreciate the art in their training. It is not mandatory to be in the recital, but it is an invaluable and rewarding experience, which we highly recommend. If a student displays unsuitable behavior or has missed too many classes, at the teacher’s & owner’s discretion, that student may not participate in the recital. Dress rehearsal is mandatory for all performers- no exceptions.
Tickets go on sale 3-4 weeks prior to the recital. All balances must all be paid in full in order to purchase recital tickets. Everyone taking up a seat, including parents, must buy a ticket. Tickets to shows are non-refundable. More recital information is handed out throughout the year.
Payment Policy
Tuition for the year is divided into 8 installments. A late fee of $25.00 will be assessed on payments made more than 7 days past the tuition installment due date. Weekends, holidays or student absences do not affect late fees. If a payment problem should arise, speak with us immediately and we will do our best to work with you.
In addition, any check returned to us from the bank is subject to a $35.00 service charge. Repeated returned checks will result in a requirement that all subsequent payments be made in cash. Tuition must be paid in advance. Tuition is non refundable.
Costumes
Each student who participates in our dance recital is required to purchase a costume for each dance that they appear in. Every effort is made to purchase reasonably priced, high quality costumes appropriate for the age and style of the dance being performed. A recital costume typically costs approximately $65 for recreational costume & $75 for all competition costumes. Accessories such as headpieces or gloves, are included in the cost of the costume. Tights and shoes are not included. Please refer to the studio calendar for all costume due dates. More information and reminder notices will go home as we get closer to the dates. No refunds will be made if a child withdraws from the studio after costumes have been ordered and prior to the recital. Parents may pick up purchased costumes at the studio at the time of general costume distribution and once received, costumes must not be worn prior to recital or competition.
