CODE OF CONDUCT – PARENTS
1. If children are interested, encourage them to dance. Do not force them.
2. Remember, children are dancing for their enjoyment, not yours.
3. Encourage dance students to see live professional performances as often as possible.
4. Don't focus on winning. Focus instead on efforts and performance rather than the overall outcome of the examination, performance or audition.
5. Help children to set realistic goals based on their individual ability and experience.
6. Teach children that an honest effort is as important as a victory, so that the results of each examination or performance are accepted without too much disappointment.
7. Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or not passing an examination.
8. Remember that children learn best by example. Applaud good performances by all of the performers.
9. If you disagree with an examiner, adjudicator or critic, raise the issue through the appropriate channels rather than question the official's judgment in public.
10. Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from dance activities.
11. Demonstrate respect for teachers, students, staff and other parents at all times.
12. Take responsibility to read email updates and keep up-to-date with current activities and important information.
13. No parents are to go beyond the reception/foyer area.
14. Refrain from entering either dance studio unless invited by a teacher. This includes studios not in use and extends to siblings.
15. Understand and support the Urban Edge approach by encouraging children to show commitment and positivity while working to the best of their own ability.
16. Refrain from taking photographs or video without permission.
17. Respect our approach to establishing and maintaining professional relationships with our students and parents by (1) ensuring all contact is made via the office in person, by phone or email and (2) refraining from direct communication with staff via personal email, text, phone or social media unless on platforms managed directly by Urban Edge (e.g. a private Facebook group) or deemed necessary (e.g. rescheduling a private lesson).
18. Raise any concerns with a teacher or staff member by making an appointment.
19. Parents must demonstrate respect for staff, parents and students.
20. Parents must not bully staff, parents and students.
21. Parents must never yell at staff, parents or students.
22. Parents must never show or threaten physical violence towards staff, parents or students.
23. Parents must not perpetuate concerns about another parent, student or teacher with gossip or general criticism.
24. Parents must contact Kalitha if there is an issue or complaint.
25. Parents must ensure student is in correct uniform.
26. Parents must ensure student arrives 10-15 minutes prior to class starting.
27. Parents must keep studio and waiting room neat and tidy.
28. Parents must respect and care for studio equipment and facilities.
29. Parents must not interfere with a teacher's creative process.
30. Parents must not interrupt classes.
31. If Code Of Conduct is not followed, a written warning will occur. Once a written warning is given, if behaviour is not improved, the parent and child will be terminated from Urban Edge.
SAFETY & INJURY POLICY
URBAN EDGE DANCE STUDIOS
• It is the students and parents responsibility to notify the teacher in the event of an injury incurred prior to dance (ie. Sports), during or after a class.
• It is the student's responsibility to ensure they follow safe dance practice instruction as provided by their dance teacher at all times to avoid injury.
• Students must wear appropriate dance attire to avoid injury and follow safe dance practice.
• Dancing is an activity where injuries can occur.
• Injuries must be reported immediately to the teacher by the students. This is important to be aware they have hurt themselves.
• When an injury occurs at our studio we will complete an incident report. Depending on the severity of the injury we do expect the parent to take the student to a physiotherapist or appropriate medical practitioner of choice.
• Students who have been injured must present a clearance report from their practitioner stating they are able to return to classes. If the injury is on-going we must receive reports regularly so we are aware of the restrictions placed on the student.
• We are not liable for personal injuries.
• If an injury does occur during class, all reasonable efforts will be made to contact a parent quickly. However, in the case of a medical emergency or in the event that a parent cannot be reached, Urban Edge will seek medical attention for your child. This may include first aid being administered to your child by a trained member of staff or an ambulance being called. All parents agree to indemnify Urban Edge for any costs incurred in such circumstances.
