Thank you for selecting The Academy of Dance and Gymnastics! We are pleased to have you as our student and we are committed to providing your child with the best dance and gymnastics training available. Our policies are based on lessons learned over 43 years helping young people learn dance and gym skills in a positive environment while learning important life lessons.
By enrolling as an Academy Student, you are agreeing to the following Academy policies.
TUITION
• Monthly tuition is due at the first class of each month. A $15 late fee is added if you do not pay by the 10th of the month. Students that are one month behind cannot attend class until tuition is current.
• Tuition is paid in TEN monthly payments from September to June. You do not pay by the class. During the year students attend 34-35 classes. There are months with 3 classes, some with 4 and some with 5. You do not pay extra when we have additional special rehearsals for the Christmas show or June recital.
• We do not prorate for missed classes. You may make up any missed classes. Please ask your teacher for a suitable make-up class or call our office (757) 873-0454.
• A GREAT IDEA! Pay ON-LINE! When you enroll as a new student, you’ll be emailed instructions on how to set up a secure account on the Parent Portal and pay tuition, fees, and costumes online! This is very simple and saves you time.
• A BETTER IDEA! Pay AUTOMATICALLY with AUTO-PAY. Starting Mid-September, you may sign up for Auto-Pay through the Parent Portal. You’ll receive more information in September. Auto-Pay will start with October tuition. Secure, easy, convenient, and you’ll never be late!
STUDENT DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP
Students may not be dropped off at the studio and left unattended more than 15-minutes before their class start time. Parents please pick-up your children on time. We are not staffed to supervise children that are waiting to be picked up. In the cases of extreme emergency, please call the front desk (Hampton 757-838-3770 / Denbigh 757-874-6260 / Yorktown 757-369-2458 / WISC 757-873-0454).
PARENTS WATCHING CLASSES AND WAITING IN THE STUDIO
Parents are not permitted to sit in on classes. This distracts the students and the class is not effective. Each Academy location has several studios with simultaneous classes. Some students take multiple classes and are moving to other studios between classes. There is not enough room in the building for parents to wait inside. At class time please bring students to the outside door where you’ll be met by teachers. At the end of class, teachers will bring students back to the door for release.
DRESS POLICY
• Dance students wear black leotards, pink tights, and pink ballet slippers. Jazz and musical theatre students need black jazz shoes. Gym students wear a leotard or biketard, no tights (bare legs), and take the class barefoot.
• Dress policies for very young students and tap & jazz students are more liberal concerning colors and styles. Younger dance students may wear anything we offer in our stores. Dancewear/leotards are required, no cover-ups, t-shirts, sweatshirts, jeans, or school clothes can be worn in class. Instructors must be able to see body placement in to correct and teach students.
• If you have questions about shoes or apparel, please ask before you buy or visit our dancewear stores in any one of our three locations. We sell all required shoes and tights plus a great assortment of dancewear and dance bags. We will be happy to help you make the correct selections.
• SPECIAL NOTE ON HAIR In accordance with long standing, well accepted principles and traditions, we require that hair be pinned up, out of the face. Braids, pony tails, etc., are NOT acceptable UNLESS pinned back. This is also a safety issue. The policy applies to dancers and gymnasts.
CLASS PLACEMENT
Initial class placement may change based on an individual student’s progress. Your teacher will let you know if this is the case. If your teacher asks you to move to another class or take an additional class, please make sure our admin desk knows so that we can make the change to our records.
