STUDIO POLICY AGREEMENT + WAIVER & RELEASE
INTRODUCTION:
Temecula Ballet exists to provide the highest level of professional training to all and create performance opportunities for amateur, pre-professional and professional level dancers of all ages. We offer up to four (4) shows per year, usually a full-length classical ballet, and a modern contemporary ballet or folkloric character dance show. All students are encouraged to audition for each Temecula Ballet performance. ALL COMMUNICATION IS VIA E-MAIL or POSTED IN HOUSE. Please check your emails frequently. Temecula Ballet operates solely on ticket sales, fundraising and donations. Audition Fees (usually $20/30) are charged for each audition (just once if more than one audition is required). Performance Fees apply for rehearsal time and costumes. Costumes are usually included with the exception of personal items (undergarments, tights, shoes, etc.) and body-liners (aka “nudies”) are a requirement. In the event of a new production or special dance, individuals may be expected to contribute to the cost of a costume. All costumes are the property of Temecula Ballet. Temecula Ballet is a pre-professional level theatre and disciplined conduct is expected of each member. Temecula Ballet requires contracts from each dancer for each separate production and the contracts stipulate fees, fundraising participation, conduct, costume care and required attendance of rehearsals. If you are interested in auditioning/participating in Temecula Ballet productions, please let the Temecula Ballet Coordinator know and watch for emails from Temecula Ballet.
ACADEMY POLICIES - Part 1
Addendum to Registration for Temecula Ballet
For safety, students should be accompanied by a parent or guardian into the building and should be picked up from inside the building. Temecula Ballet will not be responsible for students who are dropped off outside or who venture outside the building to be picked up after a cell phone call from parents in the parking lot.
Due to the physical nature of ballet, it is often necessary for the instructor to touch the student for the purpose of correcting body placement and position. Therefore, if this presents a problem, please submit notice in writing to the registration desk staff. Instructors will be notified. All related written requests will be held confidential.
For the purpose of advertising, production and marketing photographs and video footage of students may be taken during classes, rehearsals, performances and photo sessions. Photos and or video may be used in brochures, posters, studio and or gallery displays websites and in any other promotional areas as deemed necessary by Temecula Ballet’s Artistic Staff. By initialing below you indicate your approval. Yes I understand that my child may be photographed/videotaped or otherwise recorded and this material may be used in promotional materials at the discretion of Temecula Ballet.
In order to prevent injury and promote responsibility and professional conduct, students may be asked to observe class if they are more than 15 minutes late. If a student is late to class they must understand that they are interrupting the entire class and should wait quietly for the instructor’s permission to give an explanation and whether or not they will be permitted to take their place at the barre or be required to observe. This will be at the discretion of the instructor. If a student is observing class due to injury, they must inform the teacher before the class and then sit quietly to either observe or if appropriate, take notes.
Visitors, parents and friends may observe class during session from the observation windows only. Special circumstances (i.e. visiting out of state grandparents will be decided on a case-by-case basis by the instructors.) Observation is the last week of each month. This policy is to maintain the highest level of quality instruction without distraction for the students.
Photography and videotaping are strictly prohibited and permission is only given at the discretion of the Artistic Director.
ACADEMY POLICIES - Part 2
Addendum to Registration for Temecula Ballet
Air conditioning, lighting, sound systems, fans, computer equipment, phones and all other Academy property, including props and costumes are not to be used or operated by anyone other than Temecula Ballet employees, unless otherwise approved of their use.
Temecula Ballet is NOT responsible for lost or stolen articles. A lost and found box will be kept on the premises. Articles remaining in the lost and found will be given to charity after one month. Please write dancer’s name on dance shoes if possible. This will facilitate the return of dance supplies to families.
No hard heels allowed on Marley Floors.
Temecula Ballet reserves the right to refuse service to anyone.
Classes are subject to change and management reserves the right to engage a substitute teacher when the regular teacher cannot attend.
Please do not enter the classroom when you hear the music playing, be courteous and wait until the next combination is given.
Amendments to this publication may be made after publication and will be clearly communicated to all Temecula Ballet families and dancers. Additionally, further information about ongoing policy changes will be available at the front reception desk.
Class Times: During our regularly operating weeks, classes usually run on time. However, due to the obvious issues of studio classes running concurrent with rehearsal times, during a production run (rehearsal and show time), classes may begin/end late (usually within 15 minutes) and may be cancelled or moved. Most classes will not be affected, but some classes (particularly with older students who are participating in an Temecula Ballet production) can be largely affected. In the event of a “last-minute” adjustment to the schedule (within 45 minutes of class time), make-up class may be issued. All make-up classes must be approved by the studio office. However, if you are notified of a change, an hour or more in advance, there will be a substitute class time offered and no make-up slips will be issued. This usually affects only the most advanced students.
PERFORMANCE MEMBERSHIPS
Temecula Ballet offers 5 tiers of memberships for all academic levels. Memberships include annual registration, unlimited classes within level placement, 1-performance package, 15% off additional performance rehearsal, costume and theatre fees, midterm and end-of-the-year exams and 10% off theater tickets. Membership enrollment closes after February 1st.
LEVELS
In the past, we have accommodated the schedules of our families by allowing varied levels to participate in a class. However, students’ skills can only improve when the classroom remains pure at one level so that the teacher can give proper attention to each student to guide them effectively. To achieve this standard, new students must take a level placement class with mid-term evaluations and end of the year exams thereafter.
MID-TERMS AND END-OF-THE-SEASON EVALUATIONS
To complete a level and move forward, students will be required two vital tests. The first is a midterm exam with the Temecula Ballet staff to assess how the student is progressing in their level. The second is an end of the year exam with a professional examiner to determine whether the student may move up to the next level. In the event that students are progressing, but not quite ready for the next level, a mid-level will be added.
In order to help our students achieve their goals we want to give them clear direction and motivation. We want to see our students succeed, and we believe this is how they will do that. Exam costs are covered in memberships and $20 for non-members.
FOLKLORIC CHARACTER CLASS
Levels II-IV will be required to take character class to supplement their education.
Character dance is a specific subdivision of classical dance. It is the stylized representation of a traditional folk or national dance, mostly from European countries, and uses movements and music which have been adapted for the theater.
Character dance is integral to much of the classical ballet repertoire. A good example of character dance within ballet is the series of national dances which take place at the beginning of Act III of Swan Lake. The ballet Don Quixote as well as Paquita also features many character variations based on traditional Spanish dances. Popular character dance adaptations for ballet also include the national dances of Hungary, Russia, Poland, Italy and Spain: czardas, mazurka, tarantella, flamenco, etc
In order to become a successful ballet dancer, one must possess not only versatility in movement and technique, but also emotional expression that communicates the message of the dance. Character class is where students learn just that.
ONLINE REGISTRATION, AUTO-PAY, AND PARENT-PORTAL
Temecula Ballet offers parent portal through DanceStudio-Pro. You can register online, pay tuition, and set up auto-pay. No more forgetting to pay on time or dealing with pesky late fees. You will be able to access the parent portal through our website. Students must be placed in a level before registering for classes.
CLASS ATTENDANCE
It is imperative for dancers to attend their classes regularly as repetition is a vital part of dance training.
If a student is not able to attend a class, please notify the school by phone or email. Students may request makeup classes with the office.
Students must be on time for class and dressed in appropriate dress code. If a student is more than 10 minutes late for class, it will be at the discretion of the instructor whether they may participate or not. If not, they will observe class. Ballet classes are structured to gradually warm-up the body and missing the beginning of class is an injury risk.
Pointe dancers are required to take a minimum of 3 ballet classes per week to prevent injury.
Dancers that do not attend the required amount of classes will not be allowed to attend pointe class.
ETIQUETTE
In the event a student is late, students must wait at the classroom door until there is a break in the music/combination. Give a curtsy or bow to the instructor and quietly find a place at the barre.
During class, students are expected to pay attention to each combination as it is demonstrated and do their best to execute it when the music begins.
Should a student not understand or forget, they are encouraged to raise their hand and ask for clarification or for the combination to be repeated.
At the end of each class, students individually thank the teacher with a curtsy or bow before leaving the classroom.
Clapping at the end of the last combination is encouraged.

DRESS CODE
In a classical ballet classroom, everything is designed for a purpose. One of those things is dress code. This aids the teacher in seeing at a glance the training needs of each student.
