Please note - Ballet students are required to have immaculate uniform for examinations/competitions. It is a good idea to have a weekly kit you practise in and a reserve pair of tights/socks/shoes for exams and performances. Silk ballet shoes are beautiful for competitions - but they will not last well if worn every week, leather or canvas works better.

Taking Musical Theatre? Black Jazz shoes are required as footwear (also worn in shows)
https://www.dancedirect.com/dance-shoes/jazz-shoes/leather-jazz-shoes

Tap shoes in black;
https://www.dancedirect.com/dance-shoes/tap-shoes/leather-tap-shoes
(please only select a laced style when your child can tie their own laces)

If a link provides a variety of options (eg for the black jazz shoes) you may choose a price point that you are happy with in the correct colour.

Hair should be worn in a slick ponytail for the following;
Tap, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Street Dance, Contemporary
Hair should be worn in a slick bun for the following;
Ballet, Acro, Technique class and Competitive classes

Why tie up hair? Firstly, If you look the part - you will feel the part. When you're a senior and working on mutliple turns it's much easier to spot with hair out of your face in a bun. If you're upside down in an acro move and have long hair in your face it's risky as you may not be able to see properly or get it caught under yourself. Ballet is known for it's traditions and the level of discipline required to do well, if you allow your child to not make the effort with their presentation, they aren't getting the full experience of ballet or dance training.

Why uniform? It creates a sense of unity, it promotes safe practise, it allows your teachers to give proper corrections and see the lines of your technique. It's smart, it removes comments about fashion choices and ultimately they are the rules. If you don't want to teach your child to follow rules, we probably aren't the best school for you in the long term as we believe in creating professional students who understand the importance of respect, hard work and having fun in equal measure.

No jewellery of any kind to be worn in class other than a small stud earring. Necklaces, bracelets, rings and long earrings can all cause accidents whilst you're dancing.

Outdoor shoes are to be removed in our entrance area and popped on the shoe rack or if you're junior and older, in a locker downstairs with all of your items for safekeeping.

All uniform must be named. We will not help looking for unnamed uniform or items. Lost property is stored in a chest at the back of the large studio. If you have lost an item a parent must help their student look in lost property at the end of class. Lost items are not the responsibility of your teacher or MV Academy.

All MV students are welcome to use our beautiful lockers in the changing room to look after their things whilst dancers are in class. We ask that the keys remain in the locks and you remember your number whilst in class. It is a good idea for seniors to put their trainers or school shoes in the locker too.

At times, we will offer second hand uniform sales at the studio. Please look out for these for more affordable and eco-friendly recycling options. (all the dansez kit is made from recycled sea-waste and one of the reasons we love their brand!)
