Arrival
Our front and back doors will open 10 minutes before the first class of the day. The neon "Let's Dance" sign in the front window lit up pink lets you know the door is open.
The restrooms are down the hallway on the right as you walk in the front door. Please have your dancer place their outside shoes in the hallway/lobby cubbies then wash your hands/use the restroom before class. We have two restrooms at the end of the hall.
Outside shoes and dance bags/backpacks go in the cubbies in the hallway/lobby.
We pride ourselves in the fact that children LOVE our classes. If your dancer is having trouble leaving you, get our attention and we will help with the transition.
No worries if you are late! Oftentimes rushing to get to class on time can cause a child to become anxious or upset. Reassure your dancer (and yourself) that no one is in trouble! Quietly enter after taking off your shoes in the hallway and washing your hands/using the restroom.
The lobby is OPEN to Studio Chassé dancers, parents, caregivers, and siblings.
Dancers
Bring a labeled water bottle.
Leave street shoes and bags in the cubbies in the hallway.
Wash your hands before class.
Bring your water bottle into the studio with you.
Studio A is the big studio and Studio B is the smaller studio.
Cellphones should be turned down during class.
Parents & Caregivers During Class
Parents/Caregivers can observe through the viewing window in the lobby for both Studio A and Studio B. Please refrain from tapping on the glass or allowing siblings to press their hands/face against window.
All children in the lobby must be supervised by an adult.
All children outside must be supervised by an adult.
Please keep the noise in the lobby to a minimum.
Running, climbing, hiding in the lobby and hallways is not permitted.
Please refrain from opening doors that are closed with signage that reads “For Studio Chassé Staff Only.”
We pride ourselves in the fact that children LOVE our classes. If your dancer is having trouble leaving you, get our attention and we will help with the transition.
Please be sure to clean up toys in the lobby before leaving.
Class Dismissal
Please keep our hallways clear during class dismissal so the dancers can grab their belongings from the cubbies.
At pick-up, students under the age of 10 must have a parent on the front sidewalk or in the studio lobby.
Students 11 years old and up can be dismissed to a vehicle in the lot. Once the parent acknowledges they see us we will dismiss the dancer to walk to their vehicle.
Our staff have a limited time between classes to prep for the next class. If you need to chat with your dancer’s instructor, please email us to set up and appointment.
Classroom Management and Safety
At Studio Chassé we use positive affirmation and confidence building language to manage our dance classes. We do not use reward charts, behavior charts, candy/sticker incentives, or time outs because honestly, we do not need them. Dancers leave our class feeling confident about their bodies and how they move. As long as our dancers are making safe choices in the studio, learning is happening.
For our younger dancers, transitions are hard. Your dancer may not be ready to participate right when they get into the studio and that’s okay! We allow dancers who have difficulty with the transition to observe and remind them that when they are ready, they can join in the fun. Each child is different, and we meet our dancers where they are.
If you look through the observation window and see that your dancer is not doing what the rest of the class is doing, it’s okay! Again, as long as our dancers are making safe choices in the studio, learning is happening!
Our dancers do not have to sit “crisscross applesauce” or be completely still when instructions are being given, even with rhythm sticks, shaker eggs, or scarves in their hands. As long as their voice is rested so they can hear the instructions, they are doing what is asked.
Behaviors that we consider dangerous are climbing/hanging on the ballet barres, hitting/kicking/biting another person, hitting/kicking the mirrors, throwing props, etc. If we see this behavior happening, we will address it right away and if it persists, we will have the class assistant stick with that dancer.
Behaviors that we consider “unsafe” and will reroute the behavior: sitting in the “W” position (not good for hip flexors), running full speed while not looking in the direction they are traveling, trying to do a stretch or “trick” out of their level, etc.
How you discipline your child is your choice but while on the premises of Studio Chassé there will be no spanking, hitting, shouting, or threatening of any kind by parents, caregivers, guardians, etc. to their child. We consider this abuse, and it will not be tolerated in our presence.
Attire, shoes, & hair
Visit our dance attire page for shoes specific to your class. If you do not have shoes yet, don't panic! We have a free shoe exchange. If nothing fits you there, you can buy shoes online by clicking the pictures in the link or in person at My Dance Shoppe of Charlottesville (please note they are closed on Mondays).
Hair must be pulled back securely off face in a ponytail, bun, or braid. Shorter hair can be pulled back with a headband, if needed.
All dancers should wear comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement and dance.
Leotards and tights can be worn but are NOT required. T-shirt and leggings/athletic shorts or a dress with shorts are also acceptable dance attire.
Please no denim, restrictive fabrics, or pant/shorts with excessive buttons/zippers.
If you choose to wear tights to a class that dances barefoot, please wear convertible or footless tights.
