Expectation Contract

Utah Dance Institute 2023-2024
Expectations/Agreements

• Before beginning the Season, dancers must submit this signed curriculum agreement. If you are seeking class placement, it is with the understanding that you are committing to the level in which you are placed. All classes in the block for your Level are mandatory and cannot be registered on an A La Carte basis. You are agreeing to the below terms and are expected to follow them throughout the year.
• Fundamental through UDT dancers must attend ALL designated classes on a regular basis. Dancers will be allowed 4 absences in 2023 (Aug.-Dec.) and 3 absences in 2024 (Jan.-May). This includes ANY required class, not just missing your repertoire classes and rehearsals. If a dancer goes over his/her allotted absences, a meeting will be set with the dancer and their parents to discuss circumstances, and dismissal from performance opportunities if need be. No refunds will be given on previously paid fees or tuition.
• Students who are unable to participate in class physically due to injury are expected to observe classes in to maintain good standing within their level.
• If your dancer will be absent, you must email or text the studio 385-302-2240 prior to class and notify us of the absence. Except in emergency situations, absences that are not emailed in ahead of time will not be excused.
• Nutcracker and Spring Performance dancers will attend ALL choreography rehearsals & performances.
• UDT2 and UDT dancers must be in FULL health 2 weeks prior to a performance with ZERO absences.
• If a dancer misses class the week of a competition/performance, they will not be able to perform/compete.
• Dancers are expected to be on time and ready to perform for performances. Being Performance ready at call times in assigned areas make a huge difference in preparation for the studio. It is unacceptable to miss your alarm or show up late and miss a performance. It causes undue stress and is unfair to your classmates.
• Pay tuition, costume fees, competition fees and balances BY the due dates. (Tuition will be charged on the 15th of every month, and Performance Fees will be 1 month from performance date on the 1st day of the Month.) Tuition is based on a monthly payment plan divided over 10 months and begins Aug. 15th, 2023 and the last payment is due May 15, 2024.
• A minimum of 30 days written notice required for reimbursement of advance payments for students needing early withdrawal for any reason. (Only applicable if tuition payment in full was made at the beginning of the Season.)
• Dancers must wear UDI approved dancewear to all classes! Failure to comply with dress code will affect placement, solos/roles throughout the year.
• Stay informed by reading weekly E-blasts and other emails. This is our primary form of communication, and you will be expected to be up to date on the information that we send out. *If you find that you are NOT receiving communication from Utah Dance Institute via email, it is your responsibility to contact the studio ASAP so that we can make sure you are receiving them.
• Stay informed and communicate with your level through the text threads set up by your Class Captain/Class parent. This is especially important during Performance weeks when information needs to get out quickly.
• Maintain your bag with all necessary items for Classes/Performances. This includes all tights, shoes, hair supplies, sewing kits, safety pins, makeup, etc.
• Communicate issues directly with UDI through email or phone 385-302-2240 in a timely manner. This includes absences, illnesses, and planned absences. We take great care to communicate with you and ask that you do the same for us.
• UDI dancers and parents will not engage in any conduct that negatively effects the UDI family. Bullying is strictly prohibited and will result in dismissal from UDI. Corrections and critiques should be reserved for the teachers to give. We are here to lift each other up, not tear each other down. Remember our motto: “Blowing out someone else’s candle doesn’t make your flame any brighter”. We support Kindness!
• Parent Etiquette: Parents are not allowed to watch class from the windows or enter into any dance class unless invited in by the teacher or UDI staff. This includes additional In-studio Dress Rehearsals for The Nutcracker & Spring Recital. This allows each student to engage in class without disruption and distraction. We will have designated parent watch weeks for you to observe class!
• Parents! The support you show your children, and their classmates is so important! Expressing any frustrations should be reserved for a meeting, phone call or email…not in front of your student or other students/parents. Expressing healthy opinions about your student, their classmates and their progress will shape your student exponentially, and contribute to their success in the classroom, and prepare them for strong and healthy relationships with their peers.

These are expectations of all UDI families and dancers!
