COSTUMES:
To ensure that there are no costume problems, students should not wear their costumes, accessories, or tights prior to the photo session, dress rehearsal, or performance. Costumes are irreplaceable. We cannot replace missing costume pieces. Costumes should remain hung up and not played with or worn before the recital (except at pictures and dress rehearsal).
LABEL EVERYTHING:
We recommend that each student’s name be placed in her costume, shoes, accessories, and tights. Place the costumes in a garment bag with your child’s name on the outside. Pack accessories in a clear plastic bag with your child’s name on the bag and on each item. Please do not wash costumes before the show, hand-wash (after the performance). No refunds for costumes will be made for any reason.
TIPS: Always have a second pair of tights available. Place costumes in a garment bag for travel. Hang costumes before each performance. Place your name in all costumes and shoes.
MAKEUP & HAIR:
MAKEUP
Without any makeup, students' facial features become washed out on stage. All performers must wear makeup.
Eyeshadow: Beige and Browns
Blush: Pink
Lipstick: Red
Eyelashes: Mascara
Eyeliner: Black
HAIR
Uniform hairstyles are required. The teacher will give each class a specific hairstyle. Students must use hairspray, gel, wax, etc. to keep hair in place.
EXTRA REHEARSALS:
PARTICIPATION IN THE EXTRA REHEARSALS ARE MANDATORY:
April 30th, May 7th, and May 14th from 6-8 all 3 days. All performers will learn the introduction piece and finale piece in these rehearsals for the recital. Normal weekly classes will go on for these weeks as well!
Wear normal dance clothes. DO NOT BRING COSTUMES
THE DRESS REHEARSAL:
Where?: Barberton High School
When?: May 16th 5-7pm
Performers must come with makeup and hair done before their arrival. Costumes, tights, and shoes must be packed with the performers. Wear old tights to dress rehearsal.
Students will get dropped off at the main entrance of the high school. Parents are not permitted to stay. We will end at 7:00 pm and will do our best to end on time. However, end times are a guideline for your convenience only. Sometimes technical aspects need to be fixed and tweaked during rehearsal and this could take extra time. Please be flexible and patient.
The dress rehearsal allows the students to become familiar with and feel comfortable with their performance, costume(s), and being part of the entire performance as a whole. Students learn entrances, exits, where to stand, interaction with other classes, and the finale/end of the show process. Lighting, music cues, set changes, and all other logistics for an organized and professional performance are rehearsed so that the students make the best impression possible. This is when and where any kinks are worked out.
PERFORMANCE ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL:
Arrival: Performers must arrive at Barberton High School at 4:00 pm on May 17th. Doors will open for parents and spectators at 6:00 pm.
Parents or guardians should bring the students to the backstage area where they will be checked with dance teachers and volunteers.
After the check-in process, your dancer will be escorted to the dressing room to get ready for the show. They will be able to do their hair and makeup in the dressing rooms. If it’s not done prior to arrival.
After performing, dancers will go back to their lineup. Dancers will remain backstage until the finale. Please do not attempt to pick up your child during the performance. All students will be under the supervision of responsible adults and will be safe for the length of the show. After the show, a parent will meet them outside in the hallway to check your dancer out. We will have them all packed up and ready for you to congratulate them.
TICKETS:
Tickets will go on sale on April 15th. A link will be sent out on this date to purchase tickets. Adult tickets are $10.00 and children 12 and under are $5.00. Please present your pre-purchased tickets at the door.
Tickets sold at the door will be $15 for adults and $10 for children.
THEATER ETIQUETTE:
This is a family show, however, please be courteous of others who have also come to see their performers. Children who are running around the auditorium are distracting to audience members. We also ask that you do not enter or exit the theatre during the show. This is discourteous and distracting to the dancers and audience members.
RECITAL POLICIES VIDEO AND PHOTOGRAPHY:
Video and photography are not allowed at the recital. Please do not bring video cameras into the theatre. Do not use tablets or phones for recording. This is extremely distracting to the performers and people sitting behind you. Please be considerate to the other audience members who have also come to see their child perform. We thank you for your cooperation on this matter.
BACKSTAGE:
Family members and friends are not allowed backstage or in the dressing rooms during rehearsals or recital. The same applies during intermission and after the show. There is a lot of backstage activity in a limited space,
and dressing rooms are a private area. Please remind your family and guests to be respectful of these areas.
