Code of Conduct

O’Hare Irish Dance strives to offer the highest level of Irish dance instruction in a positive and caring
environment that seeks, not only to instill a love of Irish dance in students, but to develop important life
skills as well: respect, commitment, and teamwork. We intend for all O’Hare Irish Dance activities to be
approached with professionalism, integrity, and positivity.Â
It is important that students, parents, caregivers, and staff understand and comply with the following
rules and code of conduct. This is intended to provide all dance families with guidance in daily settings
from the dance studio to competitions, to performances and private instruction.
Dancer Code of Conduct
Respect and support fellow classmates: WE ARE A TEAM! Dancers are encouraged to befriend one
another and share in their passion for Irish dance.
Display good manners and sportsmanship in class and at competitions: Students must learn how to
win and lose graciously and take constructive feedback with a positive attitude.Â
Have open communication with their instructors: This communication includes, but is not limited to,
goals, competitive aspirations, and current/former injuries. Dancers can be guided more effectively
based on this information. This also allows students to build trust and strengthen their relationship
with their teachers.Â
Respect their teachers’ decisions and trust their knowledge and expertise: These decisions include,
but are not limited to, class placement, competition level, costuming, choreography, team selections,
and participation in events and performances.
Participate in Irish dance for their own enjoyment: While dancers are encouraged to work hard and
improve their dancing, their main focus should be having FUN!
Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct
Support child’s involvement and help them set realistic goals and expectations: Goals and
expectations should align with their dancer’s commitment level and should be discussed with the
instructors.Â
Make positive and encouraging comments to dancers: Constructive criticism should be left to the
teachers.Â
Respect instructors’ decisions and trust in their knowledge and expertise: These decisions include,
but are not limited to, class placement, competition level, costuming, choreography, team selections,
and participation in events and performances.
Refrain from entering the dance studio when class is in session, unless invited by a teacher: The
viewing window can be used to watch class in a subtle, non-distracting way to allow students and
instructors to remain focused.
Remember your dancer is one of a kind and should not be compared to other students: Each dancer
is unique with their own skill set and will advance at their own pace.
Display good manners and sportsmanship at competitions: Although our dancers typically compete
individually, it’s important to remember that WE ARE A TEAM! Parents are expected to support and
cheer on fellow O’Hare dancers and set this positive example for their children.Â
When representing our studio at any event, dancers and parents/guardians must continue to follow this
code of conduct. Dancers/Parents/Guardians are the face of O’Hare Irish Dance and should conduct
themselves in a manner that reflects positively on this organization.Â
O’Hare Irish Dance reserves the right, at its discretion, to dismiss or take disciplinary action on any
student(s) or parent/guardian/family member who breaches the O’Hare Irish Dance Code of Conduct.
Note: O'Hare Irish Dance has a Non-Discrimination Policy that admits students of any race, color, sexual orientation, nationality, and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sexual orientation, nationality, and ethnic origin in the administration of its education policies, admissions policies, scholarship programs, or any other programs.
