COMPETITION POLICIES AND EXPECTATIONS

Dance Xtreme’s Competition Program is an intensive and amazing experience for students that requires a large commitment from both parents and children. Below are the 2022-23 competition policies to assist in fostering the best possible environment for growing as a dancer and having the experience of a lifetime!

Required Competition Classes:

In order for you to be on our competition team, you must be a well rounded dancer. The following classes are mandatory in order to remain on our competition team. Ballet, lyrical, jazz, technique, contemporary, and hip-hop or tap are your core classes; core strengthening or an additional ballet is required for those who have a solo. You may not be asked to compete in your core classes, however participation and attendance all season is mandatory. (Ballet, core and technique classes do not require a costume or a competition/recital performance) We will have a competition team production number. This number will begin in the fall and will rehearse on Tuesdays at 630pm. This number will have a choreography fee and is considered a class towards tuition.

Attendance:

Attendance is mandatory for all classes. Excessive, unexcused absences will be handled on an individual basis and can result in your dismissal from our competition team. No refunds will be given for any student who is removed by our staff. Placements in routines may be altered after the first absence. If the student does not compete for a competition, it is up to the discretion of the choreographer and all teachers where the placement of that particular student will be in the routine. Placement is subject to change at any time and will not be discussed with anyone.


Dress Code:

Proper dress code is required for all dancers. In order for an instructor to correct placement and technique, form fitting clothing must be worn. A form fitting pair of black shorts and a (black) leotard or tank top is suggested as well as tights and proper shoes for each class. Hair must be secured at all times while dancing. No jewelry should be worn to dance class, this is for your safety.

Attire for Ballet:

All dancers must be in a leotard, tights, and ballet proper ballet shoes no exceptions.


Cell Phones:

Cell phones are not permitted in the classroom during instructional time. Cell phones are to be left in your dance bag. You will be asked to leave if you have your cell phone in class and this will count as an absence.

Food and Water:

No food or drinks of any kind except for water are permitted in the classroom. You will receive water breaks at the discretion of the teacher.

Disruption of Classes:

Disruption of any kind will not be permitted or tolerated by any instructor. If you are disruptive in class, you will be asked to leave and this will count as an absence. You will not be permitted to walk in and out of the room at any time. This is disrespectful to the instructor in the class as well as your peers who are taking the class with you. You will only be permitted to go on breaks when instructed. You must ask permission to use the facilities during class time. All of these gestures are respectful to your teachers who work very hard to contribute to your success as a dancer and in the competition program.

Disrespectful behavior of any kind to any other student, staff member or instructor will automatically result in a removal from our competition program.


Tuition:

Your monthly tuition payment will include all specialty rehearsals with the exception of solos, duo/trio and choreography fees. There will be no tuition credits for any missed classes. You are allowed to make up classes for any missed classes. There will be no tuition credits for missed classes due to competitions. If you pay your year in full and discontinue classes for any reason at Dance Xtreme tuition is non-refundable. Your account must be up to date prior to competitions. If you account is not up to date and in good standing, the student is subject to be removed from the competition.

Solo, duo/trios require a choreography fee, this fee is for the choreography only. Once the choreography is completed, you will be notified. From that point on, all subsequent rehearsals must be paid for in advance at the beginning of the month. If you do not book your rehearsals in time, you may lose that rehearsal day and/or time. No one is guaranteed a standing time for rehearsal. These are national numbers and will require your participation at nationals as well. If you are unable to compete any of your specials including solos, duo/trios at nationals, this will automatically result in your forfeit of the solo for the following year.

Tuition can be paid by cash, check or credit cards. Our policy requires all families to maintain a valid credit card on file. If your fees are not paid up to date, your card will be charged on the 5th of the month for any outstanding balances on the account. All outstanding balances on accounts will be charged to the card on file including any additional fees. Choreography fees are cash only. There will be a $30.00 fee on all returned checks.

COMPETITION INFORMATION:

As part of the DXNY competition team you are to be dressed in your Dance Xtreme warm up jacket until you are to walk on stage and during awards ceremonies.

You are to arrive to competitions an hour to an hour and a half prior to your first scheduled performance. We are unable to hold numbers at a majority of the competitions. Tardiness can result in a number being disqualified, therefore we will not hold any dances. We will not be holding numbers for anyone to rehearse. Only DXNY staff is permitted backstage, no parents. Only DXNY staff is permitted to check dancers in. Parents are not permitted in the wings at competitions. Be ready to perform at least (1) hour prior to your scheduled performance time. No exceptions.

If at any point a student is removed from a competition performance or competition program, no money will be refunded.

Competition fees: Once they are submitted they are not refundable. We are not able to get refunds from competitions.

Competition dates are distributed well in advance. We do not receive specific times until the week of competition. Please set these dates aside when you receive them as we will not be altering the performance schedules given to use by the competitions. Please do not email us for information prior to us posting it. No dances will be moved due to personal conflicts.

Competition fee schedules are distributed early as well. Payments must be made on time as we will not be able to cover funds for anyone not registered. Any payments received after the due date will require an additional processing fee. There are no exceptions. Payment can be made by cash or checks only. No credit cards will be accepted for Competition fees at any point.
Occasionally, winning routines receive cash awards at competitions, no monies will be distributed to anyone for winning. The checks or credits are dispersed to Dance Xtreme and will be used at the directors’ discretion.


Nationals:

A family fee for nationals will be collected. This fee is $150 single student, $175 for 2 students attending nationals. The fees are used to cover the cost of staffing as well as all national rehearsals prior to and during the end of June up to nationals. This fee is non-refundable.

Choreography:

All choreography is owned by and representative of Dance Xtreme New York Inc. All dances that are created by a member of our staff are to be used for entertainment purposes only by Dance Xtreme. You are NOT allowed to use choreography done by any of our choreographers as independent entries at other competitions or at any other events. If you do not adhere to this, you will be dismissed from our competition program.

Specials are INVITE ONLY. The staff at Dance Xtreme will determine the style of the special as well as song selection.

Costumes:

Costume costs vary each year. Please note that the cost of your costume can range from $100. to $500. Please take note of this in advance as we will not be compromising due to individual budgets. Costumes do not include rhinestones. All additions are subject to additional charges.

Recital Information:

There is no guarantee that all of your classes as well as all siblings will appear in the same show. No tickets will be issued for free due to sibling conflicts as there are multiple performances held locally for friends and family to come and view them. You must purchase a ticket in order to view the recital.

Parents:

Please note that while this is a competitive team, dance is subjective. We ask that you be sympathetic to all participants regardless of your preference or the results of competitions. We will not agree with the critiques or placements of all routines. Please note that we are there to support all members of Dance Xtreme including owners, directors, parents and students. You are to represent Dance Xtreme in a professional manner. Loud, rude, vulgar or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. We as staff are not only training our girls to be the best athletes they can be but trying to encourage sportsmanship, athleticism, showmanship, mutual respect and most of all how to work together as a team for entertainment purposes only. We the staff at Dance Xtreme are only responsible for the direct instruction of each member of the class as well as all of the students while they are representing Dance Xtreme.

Students:

Students are to refrain from rude, disrespectful or inappropriate language or behavior at all times while representing Dance Xtreme. Students are to wear proper dance attire at all times.
Students are to be respectful of all members of their competition team including other team members, choreographers, or assistant teachers that may be providing direct instruction.
Failure to adhere to these rules could result in your inability to participate or even dismissal from the class for its duration.

Failure to adhere to these guidelines will result in immediate consequences as well as dismissal from our competition team program.

If you are unable to abide by or disagree with any of the above policies, you should reconsider your participation in our competition program. We are asking that the student and parent/guardians sign the signature page of this letter and return it to the studio prior to your audition for our competitive team. We ask that you keep a copy of the contract for your records.

Tuition:

Your monthly tuition payment is calculated by the number of classes there are for the entire dance calendar year, averaged and broken up into monthly payments for your convenience. There are no credits for any missed classes. However, you are allowed to make up any missed classes. The only discount given is for a year paid in full at time of registration, by paying in full you will receive 10% off the total year. First month tuition is due at time of registration. May and June tuition are due together in May . Your accounts must be up to date prior to receiving your costumes and purchasing recital tickets. This includes all late fees on your account if they should accrue. Tuition payments are due on the first of each month. A 5 day grace period is given, after that, tuition will be considered late and your credit card which is on file will automatically be charged for tuition so that no late fee will be incurred. The only time a late fee of $25 will be charged to your account is if you credit card on file is declined. There are no exceptions to this policy.

There will be a $30.00 fee on all returned checks. We accept tuition payments by cash, check, credit card. You may mail in your payment or call in a credit card over the phone for convenience. We do offer monthly billing as well. Credit cards accepted are Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover.

Costumes:

Costume costs vary each year. Please note that the cost of your costume can range anywhere from $50 to $125 per costume. Please take note of this in advance as we will not be compromising due to individual budgets. Costumes do not include rhinestones or alterations. One costume will be ordered per child, per routine. We do not order extra costumes and the costumes are made to order. We are unable to order your child's costumes until your deposit is received. A $75.00 non-refundable non-transferable deposit per costume will be due in October with your October tuition. If your deposit is not received on time and a costume is required for your child to participate, an additional rush fee may be charged depending on the company's ship date. Costume balances will be due in January.

Recital Information:

We have multiple families that have siblings. We do our best to accommodate these sibling performances in the same show. This family accommodation often results in your child's class participation in multiple shows. The recital runs approximately 2-3 hours in duration and we ask that everyone remain there for the duration of entire show they are performing in. We ask that parents do not take their children from the show(s) after their performance. We ask that you do not arrive late to the show and if you need to exit the auditorium, please do so after each performance and not during the performance on stage. All o f the students work very hard throughout the year and are so excited to perform for everyone who comes to watch them. The staff as well works very hard to choreograph pieces that showcase all of their progression for the entire dance season, demonstrating technical growth as individuals and as a class. Please respect each dancer, student and family that is excited to perform for all of you.

*Recital is not mandatory, however all classes with the exception of our ballet and technique classes are recital performing classes. If you enroll in a recital performance class, and are not going to be participating in the show, please notify our office staff.



AGREEMENT FOR PAYMENT & WAIVER

We, the staff at Dance Xtreme New York, Inc., recognize our obligation to make sure our students and their parents are aware of the risks and hazards involved in the sport of dance. By signing this waiver, you release Dance Xtreme New York, Inc., dance studio and all its employees from all claims on account of any injury which may be sustained by your child before, during or after attending any dance class, events associated with Dance Xtreme New York, Inc., or outside performances.

In signing this waiver, you also acknowledge your responsibility in paying monthly tuition, any associated costumes, entry fees for performances or competition and all other communicated costs involved as well as all rules set stated in your competition contract (if required). Any changes to plan, or cancellation must be received 30 days in advance of next billing cycle or planned expiration date. It is the members responsibility to monitor membership accounts. All plans and monthly memberships require a minimum of 30 days written notice prior to next billing date to assure cancellation of automatic payments.

Cancellation requests submitted within the 30 day billing cycle will result in a final payment drawn from your account on your established auto draft date. Once final payment has been drawn from your account, clients will have 30 days from the last bill date to use the facilities. It is your responsibility to provide written notice 30 days in advance of your next billing date or fill out a cancellation form included in your registration packet.

By agreeing to this form, I give the studio permission to use visual media of classes and/or shows for promotional purposes. No identifying information of any kind will be used. If you wish to exempt your child from this, please email us at admin@dxny.dance.

We have read the competition program policies and expectations for the next two season (2020-2022). We agree to the policies being set forth and understand what consequences may arise if they are not adhered to.
