Pop Dance (previously called Hip Hop) is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of dance, using energetic music and fast innovative movement. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Pop Dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform high-energy moves. Therefore class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students for more intense movements.

Our Beginning Modern classes are designed for young students who have limited experience with Modern Dance Technique. In this class students will begin to explore and understand their own bodies as well as forms of movement that are different from what they learn in their Ballet Class, while at the same time gaining an understanding for the way in which these two dance techniques complement each other. Students will also have the chance to explore techniques of Improvisation and Introduction to Movement Composition.
Our Advanced Modern classes will focus on the clarity and precision of the execution of the technique while at the same time adding the aspect of performance and the development of quality of movement that characterizes the different styles. Students will continue to study some of the most important styles and Modern dance techniques such as Graham, Limón, and Post-Modern techniques.. A substantial part of this class will be devoted to the understanding of the main elements of Improvisation and Movement Composition Techniques.

MS/HS Pop Dance "Dance Like Nobody's Watching"
Pop Dance (previously called Hip Hop) is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of dance, using energetic music and fast innovative movement. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Pop Dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform high-energy moves. Therefore class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students for more intense movements.

All MS/HS students new to dance and/or musical theatre should sign up for this class. Musical Theatre class will focus on learning proper dance technique while exploring the various dance styles used in Broadway shows. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with Broadway style jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. Emphasis will also be placed on learning performance skills such as connecting with the audience and telling a story through dance and facial expressions.

Students will also have the chance to explore techniques of Improvisation and Introduction to Movement Composition.
Our Advanced Modern classes will focus on the clarity and precision of the execution of the technique while at the same time adding the aspect of performance and the development of quality of movement that characterizes the different styles. Students will continue to study some of the most important styles and Modern dance techniques such as Graham, Limón, and Post-Modern techniques.. A substantial part of this class will be devoted to the understanding of the main elements of Improvisation and Movement Composition Techniques.

2024 Raise the Barre (June 3-6)
Raise the Barre is our teacher workshop for student teachers and assistants (Required for all returning and upcoming teachers and assistants, rising 7th graders - 12th graders). This workshop will be taught by multiple teachers of NDA to provide a depth of teaching wisdom. We will focus on teaching all ages and all disciplines of dance. Students will learn how to create curriculum, plan classes, and set choreography that is age and skill-appropriate. This class will also have a minimum of 2 required preschool classes for the students to teach and be observed by the faculty during the summer season.

Our summer Pre-K dance classes are geared toward rising Pre-K dancers (ages 4-6) and focus on Ballet, Tap, and Creative play movement. If your dancer is younger, and just starting Preschool (aged 3-4), we recommend our Monday night class.

This class will focus on the basic techniques of ballet and modern for dancers entering grades K-1 who are either new to ballet and/or modern, who wish to continue building on technique, or for the young dancer who wishes to continue studying the disciplines of ballet and modern. We will focus on barre, center, and across-the-floor technique, body awareness space, time, and effort. We will also explore how each dancer can be creative with their own body and mind.
