Combos & Improv Technique (Ages 13+)
Dance improvisation is the process of spontaneously creating movement. Development of movement material is facilitated through a variety of creative explorations including body mapping through levels, shape and dynamics schema.
Improvisation is a free, seemingly unstructured, less technically strict and impulsive form that draws inspiration from everyday dance practices and influences. It is a movement technique that is capable of evoking dramatic and thought-provoking content just as well as more codified western dance techniques such as ballet and non-western movement forms.

Aerial silks & Hoops
(also known as aerial contortion, aerial ribbons, aerial tissues, fabric, ribbon, or tissu) is a type of performance in which one or more
artists perform aerial acrobatics while hanging from a specialist fabric.
The aerial hoop (also known as the lyra, aerial ring or cerceau/cerceaux) is a circular steel apparatus (resembling a hula hoop) suspended
from the ceiling, on which circus artists may perform aerial acrobatics

It is a ‘street’ style popularized in today’s music videos. Students will develop style, rhythm, and coordination.
Performance Hip Hop Levels 1 –4 ages 7-9 (Gr 2-4), ages 11-12 (Gr 5-6), ages 12-14 (Gr 7-9),ages 15+ (Gr 10) & Adult 19+ (post high school graduation)
1 hour in duration. Hip Hop technique is taught as well as some dance “tricks”.

Progressive ballet Technique (PBT)
Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) is an innovative body-conditioning and strengthening program that has been designed to enhance students' technique by focussing on training the muscle memory required in each exercise in all forms of dance. It is a unique training system using ballet-technique specific exercises to train skill acquisition in a graded and progressive manner from junior through to advanced levels. PBT helps teachers around the world prepare their students to receive the strength they need to achieve their personal best.

Adult Tap 19+
Tap is a unique style of dance involving specific and rapid footwork. The dancer's foot and shoe essentially act as a drum, and each part of the shoe makes a particular beat and sound. "Riverdance" is perhaps the most famous tap dance.

This is a fun atmosphere suitable for beginners and experienced dancers

Technique, pointe work, flexibility and strength are greatly emphasized. Students can expect to spend one to three years at any level to allow for progress. These classes incorporate pointe work. Jazz & Lyrical Dance (ages are a guideline only)
Jazz dance increases the strength, flexibility, coordination and technique of the dancer. Basic jazz technique includes isolations, leaps, turns and dance patterns. Ballet technique is the foundation for all jazz movement. It is strongly recommended that all jazz students take ballet classes as well. At HSDA we teach competitive, non-competitive, non-exam and lyrical jazz, as well as following the syllabi of the Association of International Dance Teachers.

Lyrical dance is a ballet based discipline usually danced bare foot. It focuses on creative self-expression rather than on technical virtuosity. Contemporary/Lyrical dance is a more relaxed, free style of dance, in contrast to ballet's structured code of steps. It has a deliberate use of gravity, whereas ballet strives to appear light and airy.

RAD Vocational ballet Inter Foundation – Advanced 2 – ages 11+ (Grades 6+)
Classes are 60 to 75 mins in length and students are required to attend at least 2 ballet classes a week as well as the appropriate Graded level class. This is the route of the more serious students. Technique, pointe work, flexibility and strength are greatly emphasized. Students can expect to spend one to three years at any level to allow for progress. These classes incorporate pointe work. Typically a student is between 10 and 12 years old when she starts pointe, this is at the discretion of the teacher.
