This class is for students with one to two years of experience in jazz dance. Students will continue strengthening fundamentals of jazz dance, focusing on strength, flexibility, body isolations and jazz technique. Jazz dance is all about personality. It is a high energy form of expression in which dancers use turns, leaps, and fancy footwork. Dancers will learn hone their skills in musicality and rhythm through traditional jazz exercises and extended, intermediate skill-level combinations.

Intermediate Pointe
Intermediate Pointe students will build on the fundamentals of pointe technique, building greater foot, ankle and leg strength to develop new skill and endurance while on pointe.. The class will typically be segmented into a brief ballet barre, followed by leg/ankle/foot strengthening exercises, and en pointe center work.
***Teacher approval is required. Previous ballet and pointe experience is a must; no previous pointe experience is required.***

Jazz III
Jazz is a fundamental element of dance. Styles like lyrical, contemporary and musical theater use some of the same building blocks as jazz. This class includes elements of ballet, modern, and jazz technique. Advanced Pointe
Intermediate/Adv Pointe students will learn/review advanced levels of pointe technique. Dancers will fine-tune their pointe technique, musicality, and performance quality, while conditioning their bodies for optimal pointe work. The class will typically be segmented into a ballet barre, followed by leg/ankle/foot strengthening exercises, and some en pointe center work.
***Teacher approval is required and Beg Pointe and Intermediate Pointe are prerequisites. Previous ballet experience is a must; previous pointe experience is required.***

Ballet Folklorico I
This fun and very popular class is for dancers with limited experience in the beautiful art of Mexican folkloric dance. Dance technique will be based on the various regions in Mexico and will include beginning to intermediate footwork, skirt work, and stage presence. Dancers will also learn about the origins, history, and costume of each regional dance. We are often asked by organizations in Irving and surrounding communities to perform for events and celebrations. Dancers will have the opportunity to represent Baila Irving at events while gaining the experience of performing in front of a live audience.

This is a beginning to intermediate contemporary technique class also focusing on building strength and endurance necessary to build up and master various movements and combinations. Contemporary dance is a very expressive art form that sits between the controlled and fluid movements of Lyrical dance and the thoughtful and powerful movements of Modern dance. Contemporary dance is a perfect complement for ballet students looking to expand their skill set and explore new expressions in dance.

Advanced Contemporary
This contemporary class explores a range of contemporary and modern styles of dance. We learn a longer combination, usually 1 - 2 minutes long. The style changes week-to-week from lyrical, contemporary, modern and jazz funk. This class focuses on growing well-round dancers with good memories. The flow of class is similar to a convention-style class. This is an Intermediate to Advanced level class.

This class is for Ballet III students looking to prepare for pointe class for the first time and for those students recently beginning on pointe. Dancers will learn some of the fundamentals of pointe technique, concentrating on what ballet skills and leg and foot strength will be required to be accepted into Beginning Pointe class in the future. Taking this class does not automatically ensure progression into Beginning Pointe in the next season, but those dancers who are ready or nearly ready to lace on pointe shoes for the first time are encouraged to take this class to help achieve that goal.
***Teacher approval is required. Previous ballet experience is a must; no previous pointe experience is required.***
