The third year of the Let's Play Music program marks a significant advancement in the musical journey of the students. Here's an overview of the third year, along with the expected involvement from parents:

Third Year Class Overview:
1. **Advanced Piano Skills**: By the end of the third year, students are adept at playing the piano with proper form. This includes a focus on correct posture, hand positioning, and technique.

2. **Music Composition and Transposing**: A key feature of the third year is that students begin composing their own music. This creative aspect allows them to apply their learned skills in music theory and composition. Additionally, students learn transposing, which is a crucial skill for versatile musicianship.

3. **Performance and Readiness for Further Instruction**: The program culminates in a performance, showcasing the skills acquired over the three years. This performance is not just a demonstration of their current abilities but also a celebration of their readiness to excel in further music instruction [oai_citation:5,Let’s Play Music: Our Favorite Music Program — The Coop Homeschool](https://www.thecoophomeschool.com/blog/letsplaymusic). Students are encouraged to compose and perform their own short song on the piano

4. **Transition to Private Lessons**: The skills acquired in Let's Play Music are designed to seamlessly transition into private piano lessons. Graduates of the program are often well-prepared for more individualized instruction, having developed a strong foundation in technique and theory.

Parental Involvement:

1. **Class Attendance**: Parents are expected to attend classes once a month during the third year. This involvement is crucial as it has been shown to significantly contribute to a child's musical success.

2. **Role in Practice and Theory Assignments**: Parents play an active role in overseeing their child’s practice and theory assignments at home. This involves ensuring that practice sessions are regular and productive, and that theory assignments are completed and understood

3. **Participation and Support**: It's important for parents to participate fully in class activities when attending, as well as maintaining an enthusiastic and positive attitude. This support is vital in nurturing the child's interest, ability, and motivation in their musical development

In summary, the third year of Let's Play Music is a pivotal phase where students consolidate their skills in piano playing, music composition, and performance, preparing them for advanced musical pursuits. Parental involvement remains a key component, providing support, encouragement, and a conducive environment for the child's musical growth.

The second year of the Let's Play Music program is an exciting and educational journey, focusing on piano skills and music theory.

**Piano Introduction**: The second year marks the beginning of piano playing, where children apply their foundational music knowledge to the keyboard.

**Music Theory Expansion**: Building on the first year's introduction to staff reading, the second year introduces intervals and chords. Children also start learning specific note names like middle B, C, and D

**Practical Application**: Kids get hands-on experience by playing on their own full-size keyboards in class, necessitating practice at home for reinforcement [oai_citation:4,Let's Play Music.

**Fun and Age-Appropriate**: The classes are designed to be both fun and developmentally suitable for this age group.

This year is a key phase in the Let's Play Music program, bridging early music concepts with practical piano skills, setting the stage for more advanced musical learning in the third year.

In the second year of the Let's Play Music program, parent involvement, though slightly reduced in terms of class attendance, remains crucial for the child's musical development. Here's a summary of the parent responsibilities during this year:

1. **Class Attendance**: Parents are required to attend classes once a month during the second year. This reduced frequency compared to the first year is balanced with more focused involvement during these sessions.

2. **At-Home Involvement**: Even though the in-class attendance is less frequent, the role of parents in home-based musical activities remains significant. Parents are expected to be actively involved in their child's practice and theory assignments at home. This includes overseeing the child's practice sessions, helping with theory assignments, and providing an encouraging and supportive environment for musical growth

3. **Access to Educational Resources**: Let's Play Music provides professional videos of every class, which are available for purchase. These resources can be especially useful for parents to help their children catch up with any missed lessons or to reinforce learning at home. The cost for second-year class videos is $8, and these can be a valuable tool for parents to stay engaged with the program's curriculum and support their child's learning process

Overall, parents in the second year of Let's Play Music are expected to maintain a high level of involvement, primarily through at-home support and less frequent, but still important, class attendance. This combination of in-class participation and at-home reinforcement plays a critical role in enhancing the child's musical education and enjoyment.
