Summer Skills Classes
Take the summer to sharpen your performance skills and prepare for the season ahead! Backlight will now be offering weekly classes during the summer for students to improve their skills in acting, music and dance. Each week will feature a mixture of lessons, exercises, and games that help students grow in their confidence and abilities in these areas. Come prepared for anything each week as we explore a variety of fun topics and themes! These classes will NOT lead up to a final performance, making them a great summer option to stay engaged, without the pressure of preparing for another show or worrying about missing a class due to vacation plans. This class is also a great option for potential students to get a taste of the Backlight experience before registering for the next season. Let's learn and grow together!

Improv Comedy Club
Our Improv Comedy Club was such a HUGE success last season that we have decided to make it a regular summer experience for our students! In our Improv Comedy class, students will engage in exercises and games that sharpen their creative thinking skills, give them confidence in their ideas, and support one another as a team, all while enjoying 2 hours of laughter together! This experience will work towards a Comedy Club performance on September 20 where students will perform alongside local Improv Comedians in a "Whose Line is it Anyways?"-style production that has quickly become a new audience favorite. No memorization or summer homework required - just a summer of laughter and confidence building in what is sure to be another great experience for all!

Summer Music & Songwriting
Fill your summer with song and learn to write songs on your own! This class will introduce the basics of lyrics and melodies as the class works together to write a collection of original songs. At the end of this experience, these original songs will be recorded together to create an album students can listen to and share with friends and family for years to come!

The SpongeBob Musical
Dive on into Bikini Bottom and prove to the world that you can do hard things just like SpongeBob! In this season's musical theater production, actors will get to work on developing their character voices and impersonations as beloved SpongeBob characters, acting, singing and dancing in this fun, high energy and silly musical theater experience!

STUDENTS WHO ENROLL IN THIS EXPERIENCE WILL BE ASSIGNED TO ONE OF TWO CASTS.
1."Team Pineapple"
Rehearses from 11am-1pm on Mondays
Dress Rehearsal = Thursday, May 29 - 9:30am-4:30pm
Performance = May 31 @ 2pm (call time 12pm)

2. "Team Crabby Patty"
Rehearses from 1:30pm-3:30pm on Mondays
Dress Rehearsal = Friday, May 30 - 9:30am-4:30pm
Performance = June 1 @ 2pm (call time 12pm)

Mandatory Theater Preview Day = Friday, May 23 (there will be no rehearsal on Monday, May 26 due to Memorial Day)
Dress Rehearsals & Performances will be at Christ Presbyterian Academy's Soli Deo Center

***If your student needs to be in a particular cast due to time conflicts, please note this in your registration, otherwise, you will be notified of your cast assignment on September 1***

Glee Club
Let it Snow! Beat the heat and join us for songs and movement pertaining to our Glee Club's "Snow" themed holiday set. Students will be learning songs with accompanied seated movement as they prepare to perform aboard the Backlight Productions float in the downtown Franklin Christmas Parade.

*Christmas parade date has not yet been released but will likely be the first or second Saturday in December so please keep both available until the parade informs us of the schedule. This class will meet on Wednesday 12/11 regardless of the parade date

Dance Team
Join the Backlight Productions competitive dance team as they train for their annual competition at Encore DCS in Chattanooga. Backlight Dancers focus on skills and technique that improve coordination and balance and are used in choreographed dances that are performed in the competition set. The Backlight Dance Team is suited for experienced dancers and caters routines to meet every dancer where they are at.

*Students enrolling in Dance Team must communicate in their registration whether they would like to take part in the Encore DCS dance competition in Chattanooga on April 26 & 27. Participating will require student's families to make the trip and arrange their own lodging for the weekend. Participating in the competition is not a requirement but must be stated up front so instructors can plan their choreography accordingly.

Kids (Ages 10 & under)
Backlight Kids gives kids with IDD the opportunity to be introduced to theater, music and dance in a safe and supportive environment where they can build community, grow, and never age out! Backlight Kids will be participating this season as Nymphs and Fairies in our production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in the winter, as well as sea creatures in our production of "The SpongeBob Musical" in the late spring as they learn small lines, songs and dances to be part of the shows!

A Midsummer Night's Dream performance week schedule:
Dress Rehearsal=February 28 (times TBD - please reserve all day)
Performances=March 1 @ 2pm & March 2 @ 2pm
*Dress rehearsal & performances at Williamson County Performing Arts Center

SpongeBob performance week schedule:
Dress Rehearsals=May 29 or May 30 (time TBD)
Performances=May 31 @ 2pm & June 1 @ 2pm
*SpongeBob participation dates may be split depending on student enrollment. Please reserve all dates in the meantime

A Midsummer Night's Dream
Backlight is partnering again with The Nashville Shakespeare Festival to bring you a one-of-a-kind performance of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" featuring Backlight actors alongside professional Shakespearean actors from NSF. Students will receiving the opportunity to learn about the language and art form of Shakespearean acting as they perform this comical Shakespearean favorite full of fairies, nymphs and unexpected turns and twists in love, in a way that makes it possible for audiences of all ages and abilities to understand!

Improv Comedy Club - NASHVILLE
Backlight Productions is excited to announce its very first class IN NASHVILLE! In efforts to accommodate our growing numbers and students driving significant distances to get to our Williamson County Studio, this will be the first class in Nashville in efforts to build our student community base in Davidson County. We are so thankful for our amazing partners - Unscripted & Third Coast Comedy Club who will be co-instructing the class with us as well as hosting us in their space in downtown Nashville!

In this Improv Comedy class, students will engage in exercises and games that sharpen their creative thinking skills, give them confidence in their ideas, and support one another as a team, all while enjoying 2 hours of laughter together! This experience will work towards a Comedy Club performance where students will perform alongside local Improv Comedians in a "Whose Line is it Anyways?"-style production that has quickly become a new student and audience favorite, full of belly laughs for all!

**Comedy Club Nashville's final performance is still TBD but will likely be in very early February 2025. This information will be shared as soon as it is solidified**
