Ballet 2
Students at this level work in all five positions of the arms and legs. All of the components that make up a basic ballet barre (plié, tendu, dégagé, rond de jambe, frappé, adagio, and grand battement), and center floor (port de bras, adagio, pirouettes, petit allegro, grand allegro, and révérence) are taught and refined. It is crucial at this point that students achieve pelvic floor and abdominal control in order to be able to hold their turn out and progress to the next level. Students are encouraged to become more expressive as they explore musicality and dynamics.

Ballet 3
Building on the basic class that students learned in Ballet 2.5, exercises become longer and more complex working at an intermediate level. Now that core strength has been achieved, demi-pointe (half toe) and epaulment (carriage of the head and upper body) are incorporated in the class. Greater focus is placed on musicality and expressiveness as they learn to dance new steps with greater grace. Pre-pointe is incorporated into the curriculum in order to prepare the students for pointe shoes.

3 classes per week required for all Ballet 3 students.

Ballet 4
Working at a more advanced level, students are focusing further on refining their technique while taking what they have learned and craft it into an art form. Students have now developed sufficient strength and technique to perform many of the dance steps they have learned on pointe, and do so in pointe class on top of their regular technique classes. They also begin working on Contemporary at this level.

Ballet 5
Working at a more advanced level, students are focusing further on refining their technique while taking what they have learned and craft it into an art form. Students at this point are asked to be company members with Alameda Civic Ballet, where they will learn how to dance in the corps de ballet (an ultimate team effort) in classical, contemporary, and modern works. Students have now developed sufficient strength and technique to perform many of the dance steps they have learned on pointe, and do so in a full pointe class on top of their regular technique classes. They also continue working on the beauty of Pas de Deux (partnering) in basic adagio, lifts, and turns.

Ballet 6
Working at the most advanced level at ABA, students are focusing further on refining their technique while taking what they have learned and craft it into an art form. As existing company members with Alameda Civic Ballet, Ballet 6 students will likely perform feature roles such as solos and pas de deux in classical, contemporary, and modern works. Students have now developed sufficient strength and technique to perform many of the dance steps they have learned on pointe, and do so in a full pointe class on top of their regular technique classes. They also continue working on the beauty of Pas de Deux (partnering) in basic adagio, lifts, and turns. Designed for our most dedicated and skilled students, good attendance and continued effort is expected to remain in good standing with the program.
