Millersville Beginner
Dancers will receive the foundations of Irish Step Dancing in soft shoe.
They will begin with basic movements of dance including point, toe, heel, whip overs, skip.

Eventually they will learn the "Beginners Reel" a traditional dance which has been performed for over 100 years in Ireland and through the growth of Irish Dance in the 1990s became popular in the United States.

Students will learn basic stretch and flexibility techniques which in Irish Dance to develop motor skills, strengthen their core and posture.

Once the Reel is completed, dancers progress to learn the other Soft Shoe dances; Light Jig, Single Jig and Slip Jig.

Dancers will learn the fundamentals of Irish soft shoe dance. Key elements including points, cuts, beats, whips, skips and overs will be taught and dancers. As dancers build on their dance vocabulary they will be assessed on each movement as a means of monitoring the progress.

Dancers will be able to be rewarded by receiving "WOW" cards. For each ten wow cards acheived. Dancers have the chance to receive a gift from their teachers treasure chest.

Dancers will work towards completing the Reel, Single Jig, Light Jig and Slip Jig.

BEGINNER 2

Dancers will work towards completing the Reel, Single Jig, Light Jig and Slip Jig. Beginner dancers who are in their second year of Irish Dance would also be suitable for this class. With the opportunity to begin learning some of the fundamentals of Hard Shoe dancing as well as progress to the Novice Reel and Slip Jigs.

This class will feature an element of both soft shoe and hard shoe focusing dancers.

Novice and PW dancers will dance Reel, Slip Jig, Single Jig, Light Jig. Treble Jig and Hornpipe.

PC/OC dancers will focus on their rotation for the year. (Reel/Hornpipe - Slip jig/Heavy Jig)

Drills will be differentiated to dancers abilities as well as strengths and weaknesses.

Each class will have a different primary learning objective set by the teacher. This will vary depending on the time of year as well as what the teacher deems necessary to maximise student progress across the class.

For example, Prior to a feis full rotations and feis practice maybe used.

Following extended breaks such as Christmas and Summer stamina maybe a primary focus.

Each student will receive individualized personal feedback in every class.
