FALL 2023 DANCE SCHEDULE
Intro Tap
This class is for ages 5-8 beginner dancers. Class will begin with a set warm up focused on technique, clarity of sound, musicality, and strengthening the mind and body. Students will gain experience in traditional tap vocabulary through learning and practicing a variety of tap steps, short phrases, tap turns, and choreography using different rhythms supported by a wide range of music. Brain Dance concepts will be integrated in lesson to develop confidence in tap improvisation to support their ability for discovering their own tap voice and style. Students will also learn about the history of tap and get to see some of the great tap dancers who shaped this multifaceted art form.
Special Notes:
Dress for comfort and ease of movement. Dance clothes such as leotards, footless tights, sweatpants/shorts, leggings, stretch pants, t-shirts, dance skirts, etc. Hair should be pulled back from the face. Students need tap shoes.

This class is for ages 5-7. It explores basic ballet technique, proper body alignment, French terminology and musicality. Basic turns are introduced, and the flow of a traditional ballet class is established. BrainDance exercises will be incorporated into warm up every class to increase coordination and our capacity to learn and grow as dancers. This class is for beginning and first-time ballet students.
Special Notes:
Dance clothes such as leotards, tights, leggings, dance skirts/shorts worn over leotard and tights, sweatpants, shorts. Hair should be pulled back from the face. Ballet shoes required.

Caregiver/Toddler (nonperformance)
This caregiver/toddler class is a seven-week class for ages 1-3. It focuses on basic movement skills, a multi-sensory and playful environment, and the loving bond between caregivers and child. The children begin their dance experience with their family or primary caregiver in a safe and supportive environment by exploring movement skills and concepts activities. A wide variety of music, props, and rhythm instruments will be used in this playful and learning environment. In addition to being a lot of fun, caregiver/child class is a great preparation for very young children to eventually participate in a creative dance class on their own.
Clothing: Adults: comfortable, non-restrictive clothes, bare feet.
Children: dance or play clothes (leggings, t-shirts, etc.), bare feet.
Note: This class is held on a rotating schedule as in-person. Class size is limited.

This class is a six-week class for ages 1-3 and focuses on basic movement skills, a multi-sensory and playful environment, and the loving bond between caregivers and child. The children begin their dance experience with their family or primary caregiver in a safe and supportive environment by exploring movement skills and concepts activities. A wide variety of music, props, and rhythm instruments will be used in this playful and learning environment. In addition to being a lot of fun, parent- child class is a great preparation for very young children to eventually participate in a creative dance class on their own.
Clothing: Adults: comfortable, non-restrictive clothes, bare feet.
Children: dance or play clothes (leggings, t-shirts, etc.), bare feet.
Note: This class is held on a rotating schedule as in-person and online at our studio. Class size is limited to a total of 4 but 2 in studio at a time due to Covid-19 protocols. Physical distancing will be maintained by families having their own approximate 8’x8’ square to dance in. Be aware that for Covid safety, dance area size cannot be increased due to number of family members participating.

Musicality, improvisation, and skill development are all a part of this developmentally appropriate ballet class. BRAINDANCE exercises will be incorporated into warm up every class to increase coordination and our capacity to learn and grow as dancers.
Special Notes: Any color dance leotards and ballet tights with dance skirts/shorts worn over leotard and ballet tights required. For boys, black dance pants or shorts with form fitting tee required. Hair MUST be pulled back from the face. Ballet shoes required.

Adult Tap (nonperformance)
This adult tap classes draw from both contemporary Rhythm-Tap styles and emphasize precision and musicality. Classes begin with foot isolating warm-ups, progress to rhythm and step-based skill building in the center of the room, and end with traveling across the floor. Students will also learn choreography and practice improvisation.
Special notes: Please wear clothing you can move in and tap shoes required.

Day-to-Day Dance
Adult Jazz (nonperformance)
This class incorporates some ballet technique while also incorporating turns, isolations, and jumps. We will begin in the center with an energizing warm up and progress to across the floor movements, and then learn some fun choreography before we end with a calming cool down. Students will learn about different types of jazz and we will just have fun moving our bodies!
Special Notes: Please wear clothing you can move in and socks or jazz shoes (recommended).

Ballet II (TEACHER PERMISSION REQUIRED TO ENROLL*)
This class is for ages 11-18.
Dancers are provided with a dynamic educational experience that inspires their own unique artistry and technical training. BRAINDANCE warmup is included along with an in-depth understating of the foundational technique and choreographic process all while building community through dance in a safe and encouraging environment.

Dance clothes such as leotards, tights, leggings, dance skirts/shorts worn over leotard and tights, sweatpants, shorts. Hair must be pulled back from the face. Ballet shoes required.

Hip Hop I - A Beginner/Intermediate
This Hip Hop class is for beginners and intermediate dancers. Dancers will explore dance styles from the vibrant culture of Hip Hop, through the lens of the dance concepts. Dancers develop their own voice while learning the history of Hip Hop dance and culture. Movement vocabulary from breaking, waving, tutting, isolations, locking, popping, commercial/new style, and House dance. We also learn the history of Hip Hop and its elements.
Special Notes:
Clothing: Dress for comfort and ease of movement. Dance clothes such as athletic wear. Students dance in clean athletic shoes.

Hip-Hop I - B Beginners/Intermediate
This Hip Hop class is for ages 9-12 beginners and intermediate dancers. Dancers will explore dance styles from the vibrant culture of Hip Hop, through the lens of the dance concepts. Hip Hop II Intermediate/Advanced (TEACHER PERMISSION REQUIRED TO ENROLL*)
This Hip Hop class is for ages 12+ Intermediate/Advanced dancers with prior experienced.
(Teachers Permission Required to enroll*)
This is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing. Dancers will explore dance styles from the vibrant culture of Hip Hop, through the lens of the dance concepts. Dancers develop their own voice while learning the history of Hip Hop dance and its elements. Movement vocabulary from breaking, waving, tutting, isolations, locking, popping, commercial/new style, and House dance. Class encourages students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements.
Special Notes:
Clothing: Dress for comfort and ease of movement. Dance clothes such as athletic wear. Students dance in clean athletic shoes.

Contemporary I
This class is for ages 8-11. Class is for beginner and intermediate dancers. This class focuses on providing young dancers with a strong foundation of dance technique, etiquette and understanding. Use of imagination and creativity is encouraged. Students will develop a higher level of focus, coordination and skill.
Special Notes: Dress for comfort and ease of movement. Dance clothes such as leotards, footless tights, sweatpants/shorts, leggings, stretch pants, t-shirts, dance skirts, etc. Hair should be pulled back from the face. Students dance in bare feet.

Contemporary II (TEACHER PERMISSION REQUIRED TO ENROLL*)
This class is for ages 12+.
Class is for intermediate and advanced dancers (Teachers permission required to enroll*)
This class focus is on providing young dancers with a strong foundation of ballet and modern dance technique, etiquette and understanding. Use of imagination and creativity is encouraged. Students will develop a higher level of focus, coordination and skill. Students are strongly encouraged to take elective classes of ballet or conditioning.
Special Notes:
Dress for comfort and ease of movement. Dance clothes such as leotards, footless tights, sweatpants/shorts, leggings, stretch pants, t-shirts, dance skirts, etc. Hair should be pulled back from the face. Students dance in bare feet.

BrainDance exercises will be incorporated into warm up every class to increase coordination and our capacity to learn and grow as dancers.

Jazz I
This class is for ages 8-11. Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to a various style of jazz such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary to help develop well rounded dancers. BrainDance will be incorporated into each class and focus on personal expression and uniqueness.
Special Notes: Form fitting top, jazz pants, leggings or sweatpants required. Hair secured back. Jazz shoes required.
Friday
6:30 PM to 7:30 PM
Day-to-Day Dance
Creative Movement
This class is for ages 3-5. Child must be ready to participate in dance classes without a parent/caregiver. This fun class uses concepts of time, space, shapes and directions to explore dance. Using stories, props, imagery, joyful games and types of music to encourage the development of strong bodies, self-confidence and self-awareness. This class will participate in the final performance at the Blaine Performing Arts Center.
Special Notes:
Dress for comfort and ease of movement. Dance clothes such as leotards, footless tights, sweatpants/shorts, leggings, stretch pants, t-shirts, dance skirts, etc. Hair should be pulled back from the face. Students dance in bare feet.
