Tap I
This tap class enables the dancer to create percussive sounds with their feet. Tap teaches the student rhythm, and syncopation, and develops the student's ear, much like a musician. Tap shoes are considered your instrument, with your bass and treble sounds. The rhythm and movement of tap, created by the metal taps on the heels and toes of a dancer’s shoes, transforms the dancer into a percussive musician, teaching the dancer to find rhythms and beats not only in music but in their own body. You are a musician as well as a dancer! Tap technique will be emphasized to enhance coordination and sound through warm-ups, rhythm exercises, combinations, and floor work. Beginning-level classes focus on learning basic rhythm patterns starting with simple combinations that include shuffles, flaps, stomps, riffs, pullbacks, etc. Fundamentals of tap incorporate patterns, fast and intricate footwork. Advanced levels combine these in more complex rhythm and mixed meter combinations enabling students to slide easily between the styles of such performers. The goal is to develop tap dancers that are equally strong musicians, dancers, and performers.
